Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

More finger pointing. This time from the GM. Doesn’t seem like a stretch to read this as "I picked out good groceries, but the chef doesn’t know how to cook."

Wolf is delusional. While Mayo is getting all the blame, Wolf didn’t do him any favors. Some of the worst GM’ing I’ve seen in a long time.

Everyone needs fired.
Please let Jonathan or a independent party make the decisions please.

Wolf has been terrible no doubt, but it’s hard for me to blame him for putting blame on Mayo. As far as I’m aware, Wold didn’t hire Mayo. GMs should be able to choose their head coach. Period.

Just playing devil’s advocate though, what if his picks AREN’T bad but the staff simply didn’t develop them?

What if Polk could be fairly solid but the toxic locker room culture totally screwed up his ability to perform?

What if Wallace had starting potential, but the awful strength and conditioning team (led by Jerod’s brother) screwed up his conditioning and then also screwed up his recovery, causing him to barely develop or play all year?

What if Okorafor could’ve been a decent RT but he peaced out because he could see how bad this locker room was going to be?

There’s a lot Wolf could point to. It does make me think it’s possible he returns for 1 more year with a good coach he signs off on and then they reevaluate. He didn’t choose Mayo, he was saddled with him. And then Mayo couldn’t even get his own staff together and they were stuck picking at scraps. No one wanted to work for him.

Yes but adding LaPorta, Gibbs, and Jameson Williams helps.
Of course, but it all starts with the QB. Also, his creativity and play calling is on tape every week, he's special at that. No idea if he can be a head coach but that's why you have an interview process. He's going to call plays as the HC, so he'll bring that unique talent to the role which is a huge step up.
In the NFL today the ideal scenario is a HC that calls the plays. Offense wins, and if the HC is good, you don't ever need to worry about the OC leaving.

They better act decisively, because this time they will have to observe the Rooney Rule, and that takes time. And there will only be a short window to interview candidates who are in the playoffs.
What’s the penalty for ignoring the Rooney Rule? (Asking for a friend)

Mayo, wanna do 1 solid for the Patriots that would make your coaching year ok. Loose Sunday, keep your job, how's that.
That’s terrible.

Only thing worse for the team would be win on Sunday and keep his job.

It comes down to Kraft. He wanted a de-centralized management structure with checks and balances.

Organizations can function that way as long as there is trust, common philosophy/approach, and great teamwork.

I ain't seeing it.

If Kraft is looking at the big picture, a win on Sunday vs a Bills team that is mailing it in should have no bearing on a decision regarding Mayo.

The decision should already have been made. Either he gets another year or hes gone.

RK would not only be better off firing Mayo, he should put him on a space rocket and fire him into the sun so he can never hurt the organization again. It's hard to think of another coach that has been so toxic to the organization and such a total failure in every way. Fake promoting him (tantamount to firing) is one of several "better offs." The problem I see is that I doubt Kraft will go that far. I'm positing a half-measure which his ego might find acceptable. "I made the right decision, but I just jumped the gun. He's not quite ready for the big job. Let's give him some seasoning as a coordinator."
I dunno. This seems the most likely fake promotion:

“Jerod has been successful as head coach so I am making him general manager and asking him to hire an experienced head coach to assist him in continuing the Patriots tradition of excellence. There will be no questions at this time.”

Fire Wolf and let the next GM make the call on Mayo. Doubtful it would be a different call than what we all hope it is and Kraft saves face. Win win.
Takes too long. New GM firing Mayo triggers Rooney Rule. We’d be halfway to the draft before we filled the HC vacancy.

Bob has an easy out for this situation. All he has to do is tell Jonathan to go fire Mayo, and then it’s his team to run.
Streamlined it for you. JK will be on the phone before his dad stops talking.

Jesus ****ing Christ. For the love of God please make this stop at 4:01 pm tomorrow. Don't make us suffer until Monday.

There are ways to work around it.
