Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

Disagree. A big part of Mayo's job as head coach is putting staff together. If it's AVP and the offensive coaches doing the bulk of the work, you have to give Mayo credit for hiring that staff. Let's be real here, no one was calling him a genius for hiring AVP. No one was saying it was a no brainer move. People were widely panning it, in fact. We can hate on the job Mayo has done all we want, but if you're being fair and balanced you have to give him credit if his unpopular hire for OC is doing a good job developing the QB.
All the coaching hire have been done by Wolff because Mayo had no connection. The only staff decision Mayo made was promoting Covington and he has unarguably been the most disastrous coach of the bunch not counting Mayo of course

I hope you’re right, but I’m not getting my hopes up.
One thing worth noting too (IMO) was that the original reporter to break a “Kraft says Mayo is safe” type story was Diana Russini, but she then backtracked that the next week to “Kraft says Mayo is safe as long as it doesn’t go off the rails”, and now this week she is talking about the Patriots potentially having a HC opening. So… if she actually is talking to the Krafts then she would probably have a good reason to think that’s a possibility.

Another reason why the Mayo hire was a colossal mistake.

I don't think a week 18 win vs the Bills' 2nd teamers is enough to save Mayo's job. I would be another reason (s)
Kraft doesn't want to fire him. He's been saying they need a total calamity to fire him. A close game, a blowout and a win is not that. And ending on a win and being tied with Belichick's record from last year is going to give Kraft the cover and excuse he needs. Black Monday will come and go, we might debate it for a couple of weeks, but all the other teams will have made their hires and it will be over. Then we will move on to free agency.

I think a loss is still necessary to dump Mayo.

I’m starting to worry about Milton starting. He has the potential to light it up on pure arm talent.

Jacoby does not.

For Mayo to be fired, Kraft needs a combination of embarrassments. 1) losing 2) PR. He never fired Bill - even though there was Spygate/Deflategate/Maximus Grump- because he did not have both until last year.

Mayo losing and his buffoonery at press conferences gets pretty damn close.

I think the press conferences are a tempest in a teapot. The fans and people who hate Mayo get bothered by them, but everyone else laughs them off.

Sure but it not all about pressers. You know that. There needs to be substance and street cred to support the verbiage. Let's look at history.

Parcells owned the podium and the press room. I'd argue he was of coaches, the GOAT of pressers. His charisma was magnetic. His words had weight because of his track record.

Pom Pom got everyone excited and was fairly transparent until things went sideways.

BB was blander than bland until he was afforded the opportunity to pontificate on punt coverage strategy for 2 hours. Bill had depth and CHOSE not to be deep when appropriate which was 99.9% of the time. Because he won it worked.

Mayo in none of the above. Hes horrible with the press and horrible on the sidelines.

This edition of the Patriots has never been "on the rails" with the possible exception of the first game of the season.

Yes, but it’s not as simple as he gets to do it over. Kraft has to decide he HAS to get rid of Mayo, which he doesn’t want to do for reasons of money and ego. That’s not going to be an easy decision for him. And I doubt he’s going to do it after a single season.

Mayo is 100% a DEI hire. He has zero qualifications to be a head coach. Kraft picked Mayo because he thought picking a black coach, who is by all accounts politically progressive, would put him (Kraft) in the good graces of the holier that thou, better than you, we know what's best for you NFL owners and their ilk in corporate and philanthropic America. Kraft played this hand because he wants to get in the hall of fame. Kraft also picked Mayo because he really had to make up for his prior support of that evil orange man. Notice in Dynasty the only character noted as an orange man supporter was Belichick (the target of the dynasty hatchet job) - not Brady and not Krafty, even though both counted 45/47 as a friend. There's has not been a more ill-qualified head coach since Jeff Saturday, and Saturday was interim. Jerod Mayo has done absolutely nothing before and since his hire to show that he is qualified to be or should be an NFL coach.
Point me to where exactly it's been reported that kraft picked him because he was black?

Is this what we gonna do now..if your black, a woman or any other race. You didn't get the job off of merit or maybe you were just liked, you got it cause it was a DEI hire..

So if your a white male, then you were only hired cause you were qualified. F*chin can't stand this mindset....I shouldn't be too shock I hear this BS here too

He's also just not qualified. Him being black hasn't nothing to do with him being hired.

What made Matt Patricia qualified to be an Offense coordinator??? His color had something to do with it?

Mark Daniels: “Have you been given any assurances by ownership that you’ll return next season?”

Mayo: “I’m always in constant communication with ownership. I feel like we’re still on the same page.”

Not exactly a “yes” or “I think so”..
The fact that Ol' Bob hasn't even given him the perfunctory vote of confidence yet is pretty telling.

I do not know about DEI but can you name another head coach who has never been a coordinator or head coach at any level, has no coaching contacts throughout the league and was a business development VP for an insurance company after his playing days before he was hired
Its his lack of experience and qualifications at issue not his color
This is not about race

Each day that goes by this week without a statement supporting Mayo coming back in 25 increases likelihood he will be gone!!!!
At this point, even a vote of confidence will probably be more like the Fredo kiss of death.

What if this was all a secret plot by the Krafts? They knew they wouldn’t be able to get the best staff to come to NE last year, so they hire an idiot coach and de facto GM, make sure the GM drafts the QB, and don’t let them really spend much cash, then watch as things set up. They know going into 2025 they’ll probably have a high pick again and a lot of cap space, and hopefully a good QB already rostered, which makes the job much more attractive to GMs and HC candidates. Now on the verge of the end of the season they mhe ay end up with #1 overall which is perfection of such a plan.

Drake Maye, the #1 overall pick that can be moved for a haul, and the most cap space in the league? They can probably persuade any candidate they want with that description…

(I wish this was true)

Nah, they aren't that smart. Bob simply shot himself in both feet with a bazooka putting "head coach successor" in Mayo's contract. A monumental miscalculation.

When Vrabel came in for his Pats Hall of Fame induction during Tennessee's bye week last season, he sat with Kraft in his private box during the second half. I thought for sure he was next in line.
