I hate tanking. Seriously.

HOWEVER...if the Pats win this week, it would be the STUPIDEST thing in the world. They have the top pick and don't need a QB. They can trade down, maybe twice, and still get the best non-QB in the draft and a slew of other picks.

I'm sure they'll try to win, probably won't though.

What a crazy ass situation here...

- The Bills will rest their starters; they have nothing to play for
- The Bills will want Mayo to win and save his job to keep his trash ass around next year

Mayo will be stuck between
- Playing for a loss, for the betterment of the franchise long-term, and potentially getting fired for it, OR
- Playing for a meaningless win against BUF's backups for the #4 pick and earning Patriots Nations' permanent hatred

Since the Bills will be trying to give Mayo the win, and playing their backups, if Mayo STILL loses, it'll be extra pathetic. His only excuse would be "I was tanking for for the #1 pick" but they can't say that out loud...

And then if they DO get the #1 pick and they end up with A) the most cap space in the league, B) the top draft pick, and C) already have a great QB so the pick can be traded for a haul - then the GM and HC jobs become extremely attractive. So it's really in Mayo's interest to WIN, but if he does that then the screams of hatred for him get even louder.

I’ll echo those who don’t like tanking. That said : dude………. It’s only one game in a lost season and the advantage of acquiring the #1 pick is immense. You control the top of the draft. You call teams / they call you.

The #1 overall pick is a much better prize than a meaningless victory.
