The Case Against Eliot Wolf

The McConkey miss was really really really bad.
That’s clear. I have no idea what Polk’s problem is. It could be clinical.

Ladd McConkey looks like a 15-year-old Mormon virgin but plays like a superstar. Exotic to see this. And the prejudice was real. He dominated un the Senior Bowl. And his Combine scores were impressive. Only knock was his short, short arms.

But he runs clean routes and has breakaway speed.

If he’s another skin hue, he’s a first-rounder.

Well it was that, and the lack of actual production and playing time in school - which was actually a legitimate thing to talk about.

My problem was NOT that we passed on McConkey.

My problem is that we drafted Polk instead of one of the much better players available, before or after a trade down.
Right after Polk, the following were drafted. Arguably, all were better prospects. Obviously, any of them could bust. My favorite at the time was DeJean.
DT Sweat
DT Fiske
CB DeJean
and 3 more CB's

This is correct. BPA is always the right choice. We are drafting for starters, not to fill positions. We should use FA to fill positions.

Curious who we could get as a replacement GM. Any existing GM candidates whose contracts are expiring? Or are there any lower position assistants in other organization we'd consider? And how about former GM's who're now out of the game, like Scott Pioli?

As you may be aware, I was and still am a big "In Bill we trust guy". However, we have got to quit comparing everything to Bill's approach. That's over and as we can see from Mayo and Covington, it's not going to be resurrected. So, let's not retain them, let's not hire Vrabel and McDaniel and hope they bring back the old magic. That is gone forever. If there is any left, it's in Chapel Hill. Go totally outside the Patriots current frame of reference. Think big. Maybe Ben Johnson would like to have a Drake Maye as opposed to a Caleb Williams, coupled with a GM of his choice. Kraft step back and let them work. Don't adopt Maye as another son. Just cash your checks and butt out. THINK BIG!!!!

The “Packer way” was through the draft. It’s obvious he is unable to do even that, needs to go. Quickly too

I mean, I'd elevate Highsmith unless a big-time candidate becomes available outside the organization.

This tweet make a damning case against the entire front office, and although 2024 isn't included, Wolf and Groh were part of that under Belichick.

20 years of dominating the NFL and hardly anyone Belichick brought in has made the Hall of Fame.

The lack of Pro Bowls and All-Pro designations means that all the Rodney Harrison's, Devin McCourty's, Vince Wilfork's, Patrick Chung's, Donte Hightower's, Rob Ninkovich's, Mike Vrabel's, Matt Light's Stephen Neal's, Sebastian Vollmer's, James White's, Julian Edelman's, Deion Branch's, etc., will never be considered for a study like this.

Then there are other factors: the teams at the top were bad teams always picking early. The Patriots kept going to the AFCCG and picking at the end of each round.

The Patriots were also trading away picks for veterans constantly because they were stacked teams. This is what the KC Chiefs are doing currently. Lastly, they lost 4 premium picks to Deflategate.

What are your thoughts on Adonai Mitchell? I liked him a lot better than Polk where each was drafted... Not much production, but at least in his case there are legit NFL WRs ahead of him in the pecking order...
Hi Captain Stone - sorry for the delayed response, was traveling and since I don't know a lot about Adonai Mitchell, I wanted to put some thought into it. I agree with your take....

Mitchell was taken at pick #52
NFL mock draft data base had him #30
PFF #22
NFL.com #27
Drafttek: #39
So Mitchell was drafted ~ 22 slots later than projected and seemed like great value

Polk was taken at pick #37
NFL mock draft date base had him at #57
PFF #48
NFL.com #59
Draftek: #53
So Polk was drafted ~ 17 pick earlier than projected and seemed like a reach

Mitchell has modest stats but certainly better than Polk's (low bar)
And to your point, Colts have some solid WRs ahead of him in Pittman, Downs, & Pierce.

I'm a value guy and at draft time Mitchell was much better value than Polk based on where they were drafted. Now, one year into the nfl season, nothing has changed to alter that view.

Have a great day

Dimitroff would be a good place to start. He's a known commodity who did a good job with Atlanta for several years.

Forget about the bad choice to take Polk instead of McConkey.

Instead, think about how we're talking about loading up on OL picks in the next draft and consider that we've used picks on the following guys in the last 2 years:

Caeden Wallace
Layden Robinson
Jake Andrews
Atonio Mafi
Sidy Sow
Vederian Lowe
Tyrone Wheatley Jr.

Do I need to bring up the FA imports like Jordan, Anderson, Rieff, etc.?

This shows a complete inability to evaluate OL.

If you can't evaluate OL (you'd have better luck throwing a dart at a dart board) then you can't protect the franchise.

And if you can't protect the franchise, it all implodes.

So what are we talking about here? There is no discussion to be had. This is in total madness.

Andrews, Mafi, Lowe, and Wheatley were all brought in by Bill Belichick, not Eliot Wolf, so go tell all the UNC fans what a horrible judge of talent he is.

Is this thread about Bill Belichick’s bad decisions? Because the vast majority of evidence being produced demonstrates just that.

Riley Reiff was brought in 2023, that was Bill Belichick.

So, your point is that the team doesn't lknow how to coach up 4th rounders and lower to be NFL starters.

Wallace is an exception, a top college RT who the team tried to make a LT and who had a long series injuries (three I think).

I suspect that we will have 3 backups next year out of this group, and perhaps even a starter.

No, his point is that Bill Belichick missed on a bunch of OL before Wolf took over. If anything he’s making an even stronger case for firing Bill Belichick.

It must suck working for Upstater, he might be in charge, but his underlings get blamed for everything.
