Slippery Slope! I want the #2 pick BADLY, but I can't see the Franchise basically admit to "tanking". Wouldn't look good for the franchise or to Drake Maye in his development. I think we just need to continue to lose naturally, as we have been. Hopefully it works out.
???

Buffalo will sit its starters. Are they on a slippery slope/

With nothing to play for, many teams sit their starters. On the other hand, may teams have different perspectives and do not.

And aside from Maye and Gonzo does it matter?
Sit anyone that you don't want getting a career ending injury.

As far as the game, perhaps Drake and Gonzo are enough. However, I would add Stevenson, Gibson, and Henry.

The two have ZERO to do with each other. Buffalo will sit players to rest for a playoff run. We'd be sitting players to ensure we lose. Professional players don't want to TANK. They want to play to ensure they keep their jobs. It would NOT go over well and it would probably piss Drake Maye off as well. Not worth it.

I agree.
What they can do is make sure the younger guys play a ton of snaps. Baker and Polk, Wallace. Unfortunately, I don't think you can start Joe MIlton under the guise you want to see what he has. You can also not play anyone that is questionable with injury under the guise you don't want to aggravate anything going into the off season.

Honestly, I think without Drake Maye, the Mitch Trubisky Bills would still be favored. You can only sit so many guys, the roster is not that big and the guys playing for them will be hungry to win without some key starters.

Odds are low that Pats lose that game though. But maybe that embarrassment, if it did happen, gets Mayo fired?

Just for the record the Pats are +3.5 (DraftKings) for their game against Buffalo. DK obviously know that Josh Allen will sit, as the game would be more like Pats +10 or just under if Allen plays.

Even if Maye plays the mitch trubisky bills would be favored.

The patriots have never been a favorite in a game this season.

Colts used to do that, often for the last two games and ended up rusty in the playoffs and one and done,,, though that was PEyton's forte...

Time to give Jacoby a shot. Seriously, I would do everything possible to lose that game, the same way the Giants have been doing.
Maye needs to come down with an illness just before game time.

Several years ago we had a forum member who would post a weekly thread titled "Who To Root For", based on which games helped/hurt the Patriots (plus a few rivals a Pats fan could never root for). In memory of those great threads, I'll attempt to resurrect that thought process.

Most Important Week 17 Games

Chargers at Patriots
It's not for me to tell a fellow fan to root against the Patriots, so this one is an individual choice.
A New England victory drops the Pats from 2nd to 7th in the draft order.
Personally I am hoping for a close game with no injuries, that the Pats lose late on a horrible flag that replay shows was incorrect.

Giants at Colts
If Big Blue can manage an upset here, then the Patriots take ove the #1 spot in the draft with a loss to the Chargers.
Hold your nose and Root for the Giants

Titans at Jaguars
One of two critical games pitting a pair of bottom-ten teams. Jacksonville (.477 Strength of Schedule) is perilously close to New England's SOS (.461), so it would be nice to see the Jags win and avoid them potentially passing the Pats based on that tiebreaker. Tennessee also owns a 3-11 record, bit their SOS is further away, at .508.
Root for the Jaguars

Raiders at Saints
The Pats have enough of a lead in SOS (.461 to Vegas' .544) to not have that tiebreaker be a concern. The Raiders do have the same record as New England though, whereas New Orleans is two games ahead with five wins. A Raiders victory supplies a bit of a cushion should the Patriots win one of their two remaining games.
Root for the Raiders

Dolphins at Browns
Cleveland is the final 3-12 team, currently fifth overall with a .531 SOS. This situation is simlar to that of Las Vegas: a victory by the Browns gives New England some wiggle room, just in case the Patriots manage to win one of their final two games.
Root for the Browns

Panthers at Bucs
Carolina stands one game behind the Patriots at 4-11, with a .494 SOS. Even if the Pats split their final two games and the Panthers lose out, New England would probably still have an earlier draft slot. Do we want to risk having to win that tiebreaker? On the other hand I would like to see Tampa Bay win and Falcons lose, just to watch the fallout in Atlanta.
Brain says Root for the Panthers, heart says Root for the Bucs

Jets at Bills
One concern many Pats fans have expressed is Buffalo resting their starters and not really trying to win in the final game of the season. But would they risk heading into the playoffs on a two-game losing streak, with three poor games in a row? A Buffalo loss here means that they will come out motivated to win a week from now. In addition if the Jete finish with a couple of wins, they could drop down another spot in the draft order - and possibly even delay a much needed rebuild.
Hold your nose and Root for the Jets

I wish there was a site that could simulate SOS based on wins and loses decided by the user.

According to tankathon we're now officially in trouble with how close we are to the Jaguars.

It's only going to get worse with Cincinnati beating the Broncos. Currently we're only .12 ahead of the jags.

ugh, the giants are starting to giant
