Offseason Needs by Tier

Pats better sign at least two starting caliber offensive lineman. I would love Tee Higgins but if they can’t sign him I hope they skip WR’s in free agency and address the position via draft/trade.

A high level off ball linebacker, deep safety and edge rusher would really help on the defensive end. They could use another DT but I expect that need will be filled in the draft.

I hope they are willing to sign top of the market contracts to bring in free agents.

The last Patriots TD drive against the Bills, man the OL was a sieve, half a second and Maye was full of Bills players all over him and that was some 8 or 9 plays he couldnt breathe.

OL OL and OL.

Why not bring up Brady? Developing a backup into a starter is better than having a failed old guy.
Exactly, see Green Bay.

Easily Wide Receiver. If you don’t have a hall of fame QB, a young developing QB needs explosive weapons.

Mark my words…drake maye will fail without good wide receivers.

Did you not watch the bills game this week? You could have moss, Gronk, and rice out there and it wouldn’t matter a damn bit when Maye has 3 guys in his face within half a second. I swear I counted at least 10 times a four man rush looked like a jailbreak blitz. Poor kid was doing everything he could just to hit a 8 yard out. Between Henry, Pop, Boutte, and Gibson I think they could be an average ish competent NFL offense IF they get 2-3 new better starters on the offensive line so there is the threat of a run game and Maye isn’t running for his life every down.

For me Tier 1 is LT, LT, DT, pass rush DE and sideline to sideline LB.
Tier 2 C, RT, WR1, CB2, FS, NT
Tier 3 RB, development TE, WR2, CB3, edge setting DE, Thumper LB
Tier 4 depth everywhere, god this team has so many holes it’s depressing. On the bright side it almost doesn’t matter where they draft they have to be better then what we have…..right? (Looks up Polk’s stats and cries)

OL was EMBARRASSED yesterday, Gibson STONED a free LB busting through a hole at pretty high speed.
It took what, 9 plays from inside the 10?

“I’m of the belief that Lowe will be an average LT next year…”
underlining doesn't help

Do you think that Lowe is better than half of the NFL's LT's? Really?

Tier 1 - If not addressed, the whole front office should be gone

LT
RT
WR1
DT
MLB
FS

Tier 2 - Not good enough

C
LG
DE
CB2
SS

Tier 3 - Could do with improvement

K
WR2
Tier One is doable, but I have a larger list, for a total of nine. Also, I guess that we are presuming the re-signing of Hooper and Austin.

I AGREE
with 5 of yours (not MLB)
LT, RT, WR1, DT, FS

I WOULD ADD
WR2
I think our WR1 would simply be double teamed. IMO, we have OK players at WR3, WR4 and WR5. I would sign 2 WR's in free agency, but I could understand wanting to draft our #2 with our top 10 pick (i just don't agree with that approach.

EDGE
I think that the need is obvious. White could play more DE, where he is best.

DE
I suppose that I OK if Wise stays and White plays more inside. Otherwise, we have a big hole left by Wise and Ekuale.

CB2
I suppose that we could wait for the draft if Jon Jones is coming back or if we are picking Hunter to play opposite Gonzo.

MLB
I think that we have a good start with Tavai, Bentley, Mapu and Elliss (and Takitaki as a MLB/DTer).

MG, I said average next year. That doesn’t mean better than half LT’s this year or average this year. It means IMO he will be average NEXT YEAR. Really.

I do NOT think that there is a ghost of chance that Lowe will be better than half of NFL LT's NEXT YEAR.

Perhaps, we should have a poll to see how many share your evaluation of Lowe.

You forgot to add a list of Special Teams only players.

Neither do I. Better that half implies better than average and I disagree. Lowe will NOT be better than half the LT’s next year…he will only be AVERAGE.

I’m just saying that with another year under his belt with an above average LG next to him in Strange…he’s going to play better to a level of average.

Lowe is a bad LT, he is not average, he is one of the worst in the league.

We deferred money to this 2025 so that signing a dozen targets would be doable. We will have over $130M to spend on the first year cap of contracts.

I think we need mid tier talent a lot. This season we will not be competing, with that in clear let's see what best we can do.

Free agency

1. 32 million for tee Higgins - no other way. Doubt anyone can come close to us from salary standpoint. I doubt Bengals can pay over 25 million.

2. Sign CB2 for 8- 10 million
3. Sign top tier fS presumably Holland for 15-18 million
4. 3 linebackers at 5-8 million each . Maybe 2 might stick around
5. Veteran occasional edge rusher in 30s for 1 year 15 -18 million with 10 million+ tied to playing time and performance. 50% snap volume.
6. Sign 2 depth olinemen with more than than 15 starts

Draft - BPA till round 4 with the exception for Simmons if he falls below 60 in which case we trade up and draft him.

Round 5 - 7 --- draft players based on potential and physicals. Smaller school physical specimens.

Unpopular opinion

Continue to invest in Lowe, Robinson, Wallace, strange, Brown to see if 3 out of these can pan out. You will have 3 veterans and 2 draft picks to see who is worth investing as well. I am hoping we solidify 4 positions by mid of the season. Don't give up when these linemen have had so much playtime experience. That counts for a lot and some improvement might come in .

Volunteering to have a much worse than average OL SHOULD be an unpopular position.

This thread is so depressing, not blaming OP or other posters but just acknowledging reality . Makes it look like we will again be a 3-4 win team in 2025.

Folks concentrate more on work, family and hobbies outside of patriots .

I give up !!

Maye would probably be asking for a trade in his 3rd year. That's how bad we are.
I know that people are disappointed that Maye did not address the press after the season. I am concerned that he is unhappy with the team and probably even with some of his teammates. The players that did speak did not come to Mayo's defense, I am sure that Maye felt the same way. The team needs to get the OC in place to start building that relationship as soon as possible to start that relationship. I hope that they keep the QB coach and find some other role for AVP.
