Bills fans take on Maye

He was impressive. Then again, so was Mac Jones his rookie year.

But I think he will be much better than Mac Jones. And Tua.
He has that “IT” factor
He is so much more mentally tougher than Mac.
At the end of yesterday’s game they were full out blitzing him. All over him in a second.
He has such a good pocket presence that he seems to escape the pressure more than not.
And make crazy arm strength throws for a completion or at least given the play a chance.
Mac would take a sack or throw a INT in those situations
Maye has those things that when you watch a QB you want to see
Mac is a system QB with the temperament of an adolescent. He is never going to be more than a backup QB
Maye I hope will be a Top 5 QB

Don’t really need any confirmation from Bills fans about Drake Maye. I mean we did have a pretty good QB for 20 years to judge what is good and what sucks.

Half that fan base thought Josh Allen was a bust after two seasons so it’s not like all of them can make any kind of accurate assessment of Maye after one season. I imagine a fair amount weren’t old enough to watch a down of Jim Kelly either.

I liked when the Bills had JP Losman and EJ Manuel starting lol

Drake can run, he can throw on the run, he’s accurate, has good vision and can throw bombs

His issue is he seems good for 1-2 WTF plays a game, usually resulting in turnovers, loss of yards and sometimes even costing them the game

If he can correct that he’ll be a top tier QB in the league. Having some skill players who can bail him out, and an offensive line that doesn’t get him murdered or back him up 10 yards every drive with holds will help.

He still has to develop, he’ll barely be 23 when the season starts next year. His floor seems very high, but he has a lot to clean up to get where he can

Generally complimentary. Think he’s more comparable with Herbert than Josh Allen. I’d sign up for that.
He's not comparable to Herbert. He is WAY MORE athletic. Bills fans just don't want to admit Maye looks damn near identical on the field to Allen except he's light years ahead of where Allen was as a rookie in regards to reading a defense, accuracy and composure. Allen is more physical though.

There’s not a defense in the NFL that was stopping that TD. It was perfection and was unguardable.

But after that throw, Maye struggled. And Im not really sure why. He also had a tendency to freak out when we brought pressure.

But overall - pretty damn good.
The Pats 30th ranked offense first 2 drives were TDs. 14 - 7 at halftime. Nothing like a crap Buffalo defense to make it a game.

Playoffs? Good luck because you need it.

Not sure if you saw the Bills postgame. The players were saying they just played a very vanilla game plan because they didn’t need to do much to beat NE.

But if you’re proud of 14 points through 50-some minutes of playing… well… I don’t want to take that away from you.

I’m not really sure if the INT was all on Maye. Maybe it was a bad read but it looked like the routes got messed up when Bourne got mugged.

Maye was expecting Hooper to flatten at the line and wall his man off which is the proper thing to do if you are a TE. You want to use your body, not your athleticism.

That being said, Maye could have done a better job locking the FS in place first before looking off. He has to learn to do those things faster.

I'd say their takes are pretty on point. Tremendous flashes for a rookie, some costly rookie mistakes, and currently held back by subpar talent and inept coaching.

This one made me LOL

Now I am really wondering if I was sleep browsing last night and posted this on their site, because I have been posting this to myself in my own head for weeks now.

But they presumably love Allen who spends @ half the time with a 2nd coming of Ted "Theodore" Logan look on his mug

Careful. If I recall, Ted "Theodore" Logan wound up going to the military school, joining the Army, was recognized for his moral flexibility, recruited by the CIA to be an assassin, got out, went into private business for himself, and became "John Wick".

At least, that's what I want to believe...

They must have thought the same when the Bills gave up 40 points to LA and Detroit.

McDermutt is some defensive guru allowing 100 points in 3 games. Ouch. If Allen has a bad game the Bills are totally screwed vs a good offense like Baltimore and KC.

I think most of us just know that a defense missing half its starters won’t play as well. Kind of normal.

If you want to see what the defense is capable of when all the staters are playing… they held KC to 21, Seattle to 10, Miami to 10, 49ers to 10, etc.

For reference, KC averages 24 per game, Seattle 23, SF 22, etc.

But I will agree in general that we win by offense.

Maybe they should play more of a banana split game plan so they don't give up 40 points in back to back games

Get the excuses ready.

McMutt used his best game plan vs KC to win a regular season game. Genius move and now that game winning plan wont work in the post season now that its on film. Allen hurt his hand or something which will be the excuse this postseason.

Not really his role on that play.

It’s a scissors concept with Hooper running the corner and Bourne running the post. Bourne’s route is supposed to hold and take away the single high safety. Problem is Bourne got mugged on his route which 1) screwed Hooper route 2) allowed the safety to completely ignore Bourne. Nothing that Maye could’ve done to hold him.

Onwenu allowed an inside pressure on the play forcing Maye to throw with anticipation to the spot where Hooper should have been.

Also Maye being able to manipulate LB and S with his eyes and pumps is one of the most impressive thing he is able to do for a rookie. It’s very clear that Maye is rarely fooled by coverage and is really good for a rookie at reading defenses.

Except it wasn’t really vanilla on defense.

Their ran a ton of blitz stunts, creeper pressure and exotic safety rotation trying to confuse Maye

Do we really have Pats fans giving **** to Bills fans here? That's a bad look for fans of a 3-12 team.

I've been with the Pats since the beginning but I'll be pulling hard for the Bills to win it this year over any other team. The 4 year run of losses in the 80's wasn't a happy time for me. I was hoping the Bills would stop the NFC's streak of SB wins.
