Finally: an explanation for Ja'Lynn Polk's putrid rookie season

Wasn't Polk drafted on the personal recommendation of the WR coach? If so, isn't that a firing offense?
========

Sure is. That’s why - after the children upstairs are kicked the **** out - Hughes & his ass-istant Kid ‘n Play should be right the **** behind them.

Why would I give one **** what Greg Bedard thinks? Boston sports media is garbage. They are a bunch of douchebags looking for clicks.

You always seem so angry Ivan.

Bedard actually breaks down an entire game play by play, and has a pretty good take on these things.

He's not always right, but this definitely was not for clicks.

Bedard was a strong supporter of the Polk pick, and has defended the player until recently.

I want to keep Wolf.

I dont like the idea of changing coaches after 1 season, but unfortunately Mayo hasn’t met even the lowest of expectations this season, so I’m fine with them moving on as long as they hire a coach who they will stick with for at least the next 5 years. Hiring and firing coaches every year or two is the hallmark of the worst franchises in every sport. Look hard and long for the best person for the job, then give them the time and tools to turn them into a yearly contender.

I am completely opposed to getting rid of Wolf. He inherited a coach and staff Kraft hired, and Belichick’s ****ty team. Last years free agency was a joke, and he was wise to spend their money keeping their key players, then he got their franchise QB in his first draft. Like Belichick he’s been immersed in football from the time he was a little kid, in his case pro football. He’s a young GM who needs to be given the time, the control, and the resources to do his job properly. If he is I believe he will succeed, and I believe that giving him 8 months to turn them around is the most idiotic thing possible. Great teams are put together over a number of years, and that’s how the best teams in football right now, the Chiefs and Lions were built, by smart moves over a number of years, not overnight, and I think listening to the fans is the worst thing the Kraft’s can do.
I tend to agree with you on this . I was also on the bench regarding Mayo, but sadly there is not even a single positive about Mayo that we need to bite the bullet and let him go.

As for wolf, I would want to give him an extended look for at least 2 more years just so that we have continuity and have the GM coach tandem for at least 2 years . The results so far have been shocking but is it 100% on players or is it coaching. Why did onwenu and dugger who were otherwise decent become duds.

You do realize that almost all of the threads here are negative, right? Pile on top of that the Boston sports media, which is always negative, and it’s a relentless stream of negativity. There are a few people asking questions with their threads that are looking for answers, but by and large it’s bashing, and it’s really tiresome.

It's negative because this is the most toxic situation I've seen here from a coaching standpoint since Rod Rusk.

From yesterday's press conference with Mayo (heard on the radio).

Q: Historically, the Patriots have had one of the best defenses, certainly when you played and coached here, and that really hasn't been the case this year. If you had to boil it down, what is the reason for some of the play declining?

MAYO: Look, I don't want to get into the players or anything like that, we just have to play better and execute better. That's what it comes down to.

Again Mayo puts it on the players without even being asked about them. That's not a leader. A good coach takes responsibility. It's almost every day we listen to this BS.

We can either bury our heads or have perhaps a voice in this.

So what is your answer?

Exactly, he needs to say that it's the coaches responsibility to put the players in the best position to succeed and they need to do a better job of coaching them.

OT Chukwuma Okorafor saw the circus in TC and said I'm out...that was telling.

What's Mayo's definition of Insanity?? Blaming the Players over and over and expecting a different result.

Even Slow Polk's shadow is trying to find a way to ditch him... poor shadow.

You keep wanting to return the discussion to Mayo, when I have already agreed with you and anyone else that he’s done a poor job, and I don’t care what happens to him. As far as “ toxic” goes this fan base, and the Boston sports media are what’s toxic. It’s instant success or nothing, period. And instant success is always unattainable, as well as being the recipe to prevent long term success, no matter what you are talking about. Belichick and Brady giving us the greatest dynasty in football history has spoiled this fan base to a degree where nothing will ever be good enough, and the *****ing, whining, and complaining will never end. It’s Jets fans in reverse. Where they are always demanding an end to their futility, and the franchise makes desperate move after desperate move to appease them, this fan base can’t handle anything short of winning the Super Bowl every year, and if that doesn’t happen then there is hell to pay for it. And they want ownership to fire everyone and start all over again if they are champions in 8 months. It’s absurd and completely ignorant.

Whose fault is it that all the talk is negative?
If there were positives they would be talked about too.

I have not seen anyone say they want to fire everyone because we didn’t win a championship this year.

I have seen people say they want to fire Wolf because virtually every decision he has made has been bad, and after being handed the QB that can fix it, a 4-13 team got worse due to his decisions.

I have seen people say fire Mayo because he was unqualified to begin with and has proven himself to not be good. He has shown he has no impact in either side of the ball, sends the wrong messages to players and refuses to take accountability.

I have seen people want to fire AVP because he wasn’t qualified to begin with abd even with Maye the offense is still bottom of the barrel.

I have seen people say fits Covington because he wasn’t qualified to begin with and coached the defense to #32 DVOA, pretty much destroyed it and we watch teams have their way with us week in a and week out.

Can you show me all the people arguing they should be fired because we didn’t win the SB this year?

He was a chains mover. When you have a 3rd and long Meyers was the best. Higgins might not solve that . He is more a deep threat or stretching the boundary type of guy along with end zone threat

We miss Meyers. Douglas isn't even half the player Meyers was for us.
Douglas is a three, and should get the majority of his yardage when backs are covering legitimate receivers and give him space.

Him as a defacto one is pointless

It’s instant success or nothing, period.

No. I'm willing to be patient.

But it's been complete regression the entire season. Nobody, but Gonzo and Maye have shown improvement.

It's ignorant not to see that.

No your not, you gave Wolf less than half a season to turn around one of the worst team’s in football, that’s the definition of ignorant.

Some people just need more time to figure things out.

Calling them idiots/ignorant and swearing at them doesn't help improve their insight.
