Saw this in a #postpulpitmailbag."

One potential pairing that would interest me: Brian Flores as head coach with Josh McCown as offensive coordinator. McCown works with Flores in Minnesota under Kevin O’Connell as the Vikings quarterback coach. He also coached Maye back in High School."

This would be my preferred pairing.

Ple
With the understanding that the Pats will not get a top name, established coach, Flores is a real option. He would be the epitome of getting a coach on the second stop after learning a thing or two the first time. (Same with Vrabel) Doing the job in Minnesota really validates that his on field results are real after what happened in Miami. It is fair to say that he was trying to do the right thing in dysfunctional environment and did not handle the situation well. At the end of the day he has that hard wired sense of urgency needed from a leader that can not be taught. It is much easier to get someone to learn to take a step back before taking action rather than having to kick them in the ass to get moving.

The "I like Mayo" people are astounding. What has he done to garner any good favor? Can his ass yesterday and ****ing kraft never should have hired him. I maintain the ONLY reason Krafty Bob hired this clown was to score points with a certain cadre of 1%ers in this country and the NFL that determine his standing in the pantheon of owners and his HOF credentials. Kraft Out
They can't name one thing he's good at to warrant him being a HC.

It's really funny seeing him criticize other coaches when he himself has never proven to game plan or call plays. Referring to the Drake Maye being able to run comment , Isiah Stanback just recently called out Mayo. Back during his only year with the Pats in 2009, he was listening on the headset when Bill overruled Bill O'Brien on a call and eventually took over play calling on offense. Mayo has the same ability, but does nothing.

They wouldn’t have made any difference just like last year when they went 4-13.

The same was asked when Mayo was coaching them, so this shouldn’t be a surprise.

They have been bad for many years and historically s
A. Maybe
B. I think we had more flexible lbs a few years back. Shed the guard plug the hole. We miss lots of tackles .
C. Historically slow that played the position well. I’m guessing the defense schemes were better thought out and game planned for the opposing offenses. It doesn’t feel like that now

A lot of excuses and a lot of accommodations for a staff has shown nothing to deserve it.

The fanbase wanting to fire Mayo doesn’t mean we’re becoming the Jets. It means fans realize the circumstance of how Mayo got hired was total BS, and since then he has done nothing to change anyone’s mind. Let me ask you, name me ONE thing he’s done that has earned him the grace you’re affording him?

People keep pointing to not wanting to be “one of those organizations”. Well guess what, we are that right now, and if they keep going with this clownshow, we’ll stuck there.
Grace? I was playing devils advocate. But as a multi billion dollar organization involved in a half a trillion dollar business I’m guessing there are lots of moving parts. Those of us who have been around for 100 years following this team, and obviously the rest of the teams out there, you realize winning is virtually impossible. And to do it for 20 plus years is mathematically incalculable. Especially in the betting world. So to bring a team around from top down in one , two , three years must be difficult to say the least. Can he get fired ? Yup. Will he he get fired ? Doubt it. Fans won’t abandon this organization. Fans won’t abandon the NFL

Please fire Mayo. It’s not just that he’s not doing a good job. He’s doing a terrible job. There are obvious things that are being done poorly nearly each game that a fan with mediocre knowledge of the game, like me, can point out. Plus, he doesn’t know what he’s doing. He walks around the sidelines looking clueless. Then he sells his coaches out as if he has no responsibility. And of course he has also sold out his players. He has no idea of how to be a head coach.

I don’t want to waste Maye.

I could see hiring Vrabel with bringing back Josh McDaniels to coach the offense. He’s a terrible head coach, but has always been a very good OC.

My preference would be to throw a lot of money at Ben Johnson. I don’t know much about him, but Detroit’s offense has been awesome and he’s the guy everyone is talking about. Then bring in Saleh to coach the defense.

If not Johnson, then hire another offensive and innovative head coach.

Coaching Maye, having a top pick, and having an absurd amount of money to spend to reshape the team has to be attractive… depending on what we do with Wolf and how much say the new coach has in player personnel.

Just fire Maye and maybe Wolf. Think of this year as a mistake and move on now.

Lebanese descent might make the pairing with Kraft difficult to swallow for Saleh. Don't wanna speak for him, but something to consider.

Giardi was on WEEI saying AVP has been gone for about 2 months now. Or rather the decision to replace him has been made already.

If that is the case, this team is lost for the next 2-3 years.

Edit to add, I am not against replacing AVP. In face I would fire the entire staff and keep AVP as Mayes QB coach and overpay him to stay and do so.

Don’t worry, Mayo and Covington will follow him out the door in less than 12 months.

This narrative just exposes you. This is not why he was hired. Please wake up to the fact that Mayo was hired because he made Kraft feel comfortable and seemed competent. By banging this dei drum, you only damage yourself.
Horseshit.

I have never mentioned DEI in any commentary on Mayo. The subject came up, and I commented on it as a matter peripheral to the discussion but of obvious interest. I leave it to others to decide whether DEI/affirmative action has anything to do with the Mayo situation. I have no idea. More relevantly, I do not care. I have based my view on the obvious, on the uncontested: 1) There was NO legitimate, merit-based process by which Mayo was hired. His qualification is that an elderly owner found him a pleasant travel companion, 2) According to ANY even remotely objective analysis, he blows at his job.

Save your regurgitated, ******** political screed for somebody who gives a **** what you think.

If you respond, I will ignore you.

The NFL is full of nepotism hires at HC. Steve Belichick was one. Just because the guy who got his boss to like him enough to take a chance is black doesn’t make it a DEI hire.
However, you had Mayo indicating otherwise. Mayo basically sounding like he believes he is a DEI hire. I was hired "to be a black head coach." Instead of I was hired to be the coach and I happen to be black. Then Mayo explaining how he will use DEI methods to build a team that looks like the world and how he doesn't want to be colorblind so he can fight racism.

That was one of the more bizarre introductory press conferences. And what was said made many of us think this team was going to turn into a three ring circus this season. And we were right

I guess my patience has come to an end. The looming ass kicking that’s about to happen Sunday really highlights the ridiculousness of this season. Mayo is clearly in over his head and has been, it’s not his fault. He should have never been put in this position to lead the highest level of professional football at this time. Whether it was dei, buddy’s and pals, or just really bad judgement….this is a failed experiment. To “run it back again” next year is one more year of loss. Next year he is a lame duck coach….bad place to be.

Cut losses and start over with a REAL coaching and GM search. This is the way.

Giardi said that today on EEI? Nobody else has mentioned this as far as I know.

But that's likely the reason it got flexed. Not to appease Kraft
Is Kraft still chairing the league media committee? He used to be the most powerful owner when it came to the TV contract negotiations. At least in those days they wouldn’t flex the Pats if Robert was against it.

Another possible conspiracy scenario: Robert’s star has fallen in league circles and some of his fellow owners want to shine a spotlight on how bad his team has become…

Buffalo might take a knee vs NE in week 18.
If so
Mayo should counter with the Joe Milton Experience; that's if Head Coach of Offense AVP approves and Jonathan initials the work order.
The Bills aren’t going to try to lose. We would probably have a hard time beating their backups esp considering it’s the last game of a season where no one seemed to care about winning anyway so they will be more worried about getting out town, and hopefully off the titanic for next year

FWIW
But this **** is everywhere ... beating out the telenovela crap.

If Maye thinks Jerod sucks he could single-handedly get him fired by just not playing very hard the last 3 weeks
Or the Bills can do all they can to help Mayo keep his job next year to set the Patriots back another year or two of rebuild. Then again an NFL record in points against their arch rivals might be too tempting to ignore.

If they somehow beat Buffalo I would certainly be looking at the team differently because that would mean they elevated from being probably the worst team in the league all the way up to being able to knock off one of the best (maybe THE best) team in the league, in their house, on national TV.

So yeah I would probably be re-thinking my opinion because that’s a pretty huge change in performance.
Even a blind squirrel. will find a nut sometime.

I agree with Thelononious. His argument is not just well reasoned, but it's the truth.
