Sox 2024-25 offseason news

of course you do. Thant is exactly what you do to get a talent like Crochet. The rotation is now... (Red Sox's Updated Payroll, Rotation for 2025 MLB Roster After Garrett Crochet Trade)
No. 1 starter: Garrett Crochet, LHP
No. 2 starter: Tanner Houck, RHP
No. 3 starter: Brayan Bello, RHP
No. 4 starter: Kutter Crawford, RHP
No. 5 starter: Lucas Giolito, RHP

that's not bad and could be better if they add a Burnes or Flaherty. I think it was a good move
Agreed, with the caveat that I don’t know anything about the prospects. But you can’t hoard them all

Hope to hear about Burnes either way before the end of the weekend. That rotation would be pretty set if they somehow get Burnes.

I like Burnes but I'd rather get one of the young stud pitchers from Seattle. Mariners have the best young rotation in MLB period. Sox have been in discussions with them for days now.

Dead Sux can add another pitcher and they'll still be a second-division team unless they add Multiple RH power bats.

Nope, Teel was enough for a centerpiece and filler around him. Remember when prices were cheaper in the offseason than during the season?

Breslow didn't get the memo apparently. Do I like Crochet? Sure he's good but so far unproven.

Yep. Breslow just did what all other bad organizations have Always done: Overpay as a response to earlier Failure.

Yes, and, Houke is a more valuable asset right now, given two years less experience and age, and nearly as accomplished as Burnes last season.

At this point the Sox pretty much have to come up with Burnes

All Breslow has to do now is trade Mayer and Anthony for that dude from Seattle. That would complete the offseason.
Seattle's pitchers are overrated. their home ballpark is a pitcher's dream. If they are trading two top prospects for a Seattle pitching, they better do their homework because I am very skeptical. Not to mention playing in front of Seattle fans is a whole lot mellower than playing in front of Red Sox fans. Some players might not respond well to all the nitpicking that goes on with local radio and TV programs.

Multiple sources predict the Sawx sign Burnes. And most media say San Fran is the primary competition.
This is driving me nuts. Because if Boston signs Burnes you now have one of the very top rotations in mlb and they are immediately legit World Series contenders. There is no reason SanFran should outbid them. Sawx have not spent any $ yet and they're loaded with dough.
The beauty of the Crochet deal is he's on a very cheap contract and only 25y.o.
I'll be pissed if they don't do this.

No, Houck is nowhere as accomplished as Burnes. Thats ridiculous. Burnes is one of the best starters in mlb and has been for several years. Hes a horse and an innings-eater which Houck is neither of those 2. Burnes also has better stuff.
Houck does have potential. He hasn't reached his ceiling yet. But Bello was a better starter than Houck last year. Tanner started very strong and finished weak. Bello got better and better as the season progressed and was easily the best starter in Boston by seasons end.
The cool thing is if they sign Burnes, then you have Bello,Houck and Crawfird as 3,4 & 5 instead of 1,2,3. That gives us one the very best if not the best rotations in mlb.
They need to sign Burnes

The ceiling is as much a factor in determining value as is past performance. Houke is 2 years younger and his last year was nearly as good as Burnes' was. Ask a GM which one they'd want to have for the next 7 years, with salary included in the calculation. Houck's comparable low cost and 2 more years of peak production makes room on the roster to sign another star player. All this factors go in to value.

Burnes, Crochet, Houck, Sasaki, Bello,

Thats my rotation for next year and the future.

Still asking: Where’s the (right-handed) Beef?

Yes of course ceiling and age are factors.
But track record is even more of a factor, especially since they are close in age.
Houck has one decent seaso( last year) as a starter and he was not good late in the season. He flatout sucked in 2023 with an era over 5.00. Prior to that he was a reliever.
Compare/ contrast to Birnes who has been among the top 5 finishers for the Cy Young for the last 5 straight years, in both the NL and the AL. Even considering salaries, no team is going to take Houck over Burnes. The odds that Houck will ever be as good as Burnes are pretty slim. His stuff just isn't the same.
But he does have potential to be very good. Adding Burnes makes them a contender.

Walker Buehler? Are we being serious? This isn't even close to being a good enough effort to put together a roster. It's an absolute embarrassment.

Yeah I am slowly starting to think they aren't going to pay any real money. Then again, Burnes is still out there and nobody has signed him either.
