Sox 2024-25 offseason news

They were never going to get Soto for that. 15 years, 765m. Wow.

Aren't they still paying for Albert Belle? That's a crazy commitment.

But I'll have you know interest WAS expressed, expressed sir!
Much like Scrooge expressed interest in more bread. Interest that evaporated when he discovered he'd have to pay for it but interest nonetheless

Bonilla I think.

Hopefully this is a sign that Henry is willing to pay up for the right guy to come to Boston. Time to get moving on free agency.

I like McAdam and miss reading his stuff ever since Comcast ditched him and he went to BSJ which i just won't support because of Bedard. That said an unwilling to be named 'source' telling him that once again the Sox weren't that far off the number says more about the 'source' than about McAdam. Mcadam has to report what the source wants out there or risk the 'source' drying up on him. I understand it's how the game is played but my cynical self has seen this particular game play out before.

I agree with you. This is a "more days in first place" type of argument this team continues to make. Stop putting out BS. This team has a reasonable amount history of not paying their home grown stars, (Lester, Betts, Bogey) when selling us exactly the fact that's what they want to do. No way he (Henry) was paying that. Could have had Betts (12y $365m) for half that money, when Betts was the age that Soto is now.

They'll end up with Pete Alonso and then be forced to do something with Triston Casas.

Sox need to act on Fried if they want to get him. He best LH pitcher left in FA. Also, would like to get Burnes...those two inserted into our staff would be a great improvement. Still keeping tabs on Soto, but i would start with those two pitchers
I agree but there's heavy competition for both those guys including from the Yankees and Dodgers.
Sox could offer more than both and still lose out. I think most of these free agents are looking for both top $ AND playing for a contender.
Soto is a great player but both Burnes and Fried would improve the Sox more.
Pitching is still more important than hitting.
If they could just get one of those 2 guys plus trade for for someone like Crochet they'd be in good shape.
The trade part is easy: nobody has more trade assets than Boston.
Free agency is hard. A lot of competition especially for pitchers. Sox would need to offer significantly more than either LA or NY. They're contenders right now, we're not. Thats just the way it is.
But I give the Sawx credit for trying.
But they still need to come away with some major talent this offseason either by trade or free agency or both.

Yes, Bobby Bonilla is still geting paid by the Mets.
They bought out his contract in 1999.
Repeat. 1999. They will be paying him every year through.......2035!!
One of the most mind-bogglingly funny situations in sports history.
And most of us love it- a player actually sticking it to a greedy owner and beating the living crap out of him in salary negotiations.
Even the wealthiest athletes make crap compared to owners.

Have any feelings on MegaBucks tonight...?

Red Sox get Crochet, send prospects to White Sox

The allure of Crochet goes beyond his elite stuff and performance. Because he spent the first four years of his career as a relief pitcher, Crochet's salary in arbitration is far less than that of an elite starting pitcher. He is projected to make around $3 million this year and will not be a free agent until after the 2026 season.
While this is great for this team, it's still them being freakin' cheap. A step in the right direction.

It's a low key bad trade by the Red Sox. You don't trade Teel AND your 1st round pick from last year PLUS more. Thats what terrible teams do, and the Red Sox proved they are a terrible team with nobody who can make a good deal.

If this is all they are going to do, then they have failed.

They gave up a lot but that is the current price. They weren't getting him for less.
He is only 25 and throws 100mph+.
It was a very good move.
But I agree they need to do more.
They need one more good starter and a quality righthanded bat. Personally, I'd love to see them sign Bregman, a gold glover at 3rd and a really good hitter.
Devers at dh where he belongs.
If they do those 2 things it's a bigtime success and they're contenders.

I would have rather seen them sign a couple of pitchers. They don't have a closer right now and thats a big thing.

The issue I have is they gave up their top prospect(s) for a guy who's going to be a long term rental, because you know they won't pony up big bucks for this kid in two years.

They paid retail price for a lease deal. @ViperGTS is right, this is what ****ty teams do. Freakin' Yankees and Dodgers don't do this chit.

Teel and Montgomery were the 4th and 5th best prospects in their system, behind Anthony, Mayer and Campbell. It’s still a decent price to pay though, but Crochet really was that good with the White Sox last year - just no one noticed because they were so terrible otherwise.

Historically this ownership has extended pitchers when trading for them - Schilling, Beckett, and Sale come to mind. And Crochet has made it well known that he wants an extension rather than go free agency. So I’m working on the assumption they will reach a deal sometime this winter, hopefully I’m not wrong there. I’ll be very happy with the trade if that’s the case, that they acquired an ace while keeping Anthony. This ownership has had major issues giving 5-8 year contracts to pitchers over the age of 30. We’ll see how they handle this 25 year old.

Maybe. These ass clowns don't seem to want to pay anyone. They have oodles of money and aren't doing anything.

The proof is in the pudding, as you say. There’s no reason this team in this market should be 11th in MLB payroll like they were last year. Maybe I’m still being too naive here. Hopefully they prove me right.

“These ass clowns”
That’s real progress outta you, proud of you. It took you a bit to get here but welcome to reality or as those of us who’ve seen ownership’s BS for what it is for awhile now think of it, The Dark Side.

Well I did say I fully expected them to go to the wall this offseason, and if they didn't..then I would roast them.

If they don't sign Burnes, don't get Sasaki etc....and end up paying nobody..then f them and all their BS.

of course you do. Thant is exactly what you do to get a talent like Crochet. The rotation is now... (Red Sox's Updated Payroll, Rotation for 2025 MLB Roster After Garrett Crochet Trade)
No. 1 starter: Garrett Crochet, LHP
No. 2 starter: Tanner Houck, RHP
No. 3 starter: Brayan Bello, RHP
No. 4 starter: Kutter Crawford, RHP
No. 5 starter: Lucas Giolito, RHP

that's not bad and could be better if they add a Burnes or Flaherty. I think it was a good move
