Sox 2024-25 offseason news

Looks like they might be in on Juan Soto. I doubt they'll meet his asking price but wouldn't that be something if they did.

It’s not out of the question that they might make this move. They could then use some of those prospects to bolster their front-line pitching while still having a bunch of young talent. Soto, Rafaela, and Anthony in the outfield is an incredible thought.

I'm not being fooled again this year where we are linked to be in on every FA out there and promise to spend big and go all in.

They have more trade chips than anyone.
There are quality starting pitchers( their biggest need) available by trade and also free agency.
Yeah, it'd be awesome to get Soto and 2 aces plus a stud reliever.
I'll only believe any of it when I see it.

I believe.
And what I believe is the Sox will be 'in' on showing interest. The operative word being 'showing' and until they actually go big that's all I'm willing to believe. Until then I'll remain cynical the only 'rain' outta Sox ownership will continue to be them urinating on our heads and no they can't sell me a Sox umbrella or pink Sox rain hat.

I think you guys are reading the room wrong. Ownership knew that building a sustainable winner meant building the farm. The fruits are showing, and now it's the time to strike.

This has a very '00-'03 feeling to me. The Sox are loading up for bear, and with the elite young talent they have its go time. I'd be stunned if they don't do several major things to become a WS contender.

I'd really like them to be in on Soto or Pete Alonso. But until the ink is dry and the presser is called, I'll be at the bar.

I'd say save me a seat but I'm already at the bar. (the fact I may never have left has nothing to do with it)
Your ice is melting btw

And I think Wener & Henry are the ones who misread the room, when they decided to be disengenuous. As Boston fans we may on occasion be idiots but most of us are seldom gullible, the Sox FO has zero credibility wth the bulk of the longtime fanbase. To a lot of our eyes, they've basically become the Sullivan's without the financial malfeasance. Billy & Co. could only dream of raking it in the way Fenway Sports Group has.

I will always have a blind spot when it comes to this ownership group (which also includes Theo now) becauyse of what they allowed me to experience in 2004. I still get emotional when thinking about that season. The other 3 championships were awesome, but '04 was mind altering. (or maybe it was the drugs). Either way. my point is, I think I'm still content and they can fudge the truth a bit longer to keep me interested if they want. I'm in the "intentionally gullible" category.

Soto would sure be fun to cheer for, but get rid of the "Soto shuffle", please.

we need to get rid of some DHs on the team and i would like ot either get our young guys up in the bigs and regular playing time or trade them. Several are ready for a serious look

@maust said it best, the FO pees on our collective heads and then tells us it's raining, all the while selling us a big pink golf umbrella with a Sox logo on it. Sorry my man, I want to like them, I truly do. I cannot fathom they broke the curse and managed to use up all that goodwill, simply by fielding a team that's not good while telling us why it's great. If you really want to spilt hairs, bashing the Pats in the team owned newspaper because they are jealous is small minded crap.

I love sports, but I don't get too bothered by all the off-field stuff. When the games are being played, I root for my team and live with the results. Granted, I like paying attention to off-season, trade deadline, and other types of moves, but there have only been a few times where it riles me up. In my eyes, Kraft and Henry should be considered legends in Boston sports lore for doing what they did for our beloved franchises. If they hadn't gotten both franchises over the humped (multiple times, I might add), we wouldn't be as feverish for more. We would still be accepting that we will always be playing second fiddle to the Yankees or, as in the Patriots situation, always be just a team that never could get over the hump and usually dwelled near the bottom while sitting on aluminum benches, or worse, playing in St. Louis.

I really do appreciate all the different ways people are passionate about sports and think it's fun to read all the different perspectives on boards like these, but I will never fully understand or relate to the perspective of calling your own players/coaches/owners/etc. bums (or worse). Obviously, there are situations (Aaron Hernandez) where distancing oneself from a player makes sense.

I don't think you can separate it. Henry's management of the team is his prerogative, to be sure. No one says he has to field a winning team. The issue is that he insults us by telling us how good the team is, when they are in last place. At least with Kraft, he doesn't pretend to spin it. If the Pats suck, then they suck. I do think this off-season here could be frustrating if he tries to spin how well the FO or coaching staff has done. His track record is that he doesn't try to sugar coat it, so we will wait and see. Henry, for all the good he's done, insults the fan base with pink hat platitudes. They are quite happy being the Cubbies, pre-2016. Fill the stadium because the stadium is cool, sing Kumbaya and fleece the fans of their money. Meh. Sorry man, I'm not buying what they are selling. They got to the promised land by going toe to toe with the Yankees, dollar for dollar, in an all-out arms race. They aren't the KC Royals. The have the ability to compete with the Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Cards and all the other big market teams, they just are too freakin' cheap to do it.

That all makes sense.
For me, I don't buy any Sox gear, never really did and I don't live close enough anymore to attend games, so my "buying" is all based on my mentality towards the team and "spending" time following them. I really enjoyed watching the team this year, the brand of ball they played was exciting and with the new prospects on the way I am excited to see them take the next step. I think the building of the pipeline has been a huge success (so far). It's only been 6 years since the last WS win.

the Dodgers just signed Snell. Damn, baseball is getting ready to be unwatchable (more than it already is). Yes, if you own a team you should try to spend and be competitive. Only about 5 or 6 teams in the league are spending. MLB is is trouble if you ask me but what do I know

Sox need to act on Fried if they want to get him. He best LH pitcher left in FA. Also, would like to get Burnes...those two inserted into our staff would be a great improvement. Still keeping tabs on Soto, but i would start with those two pitchers

They were never going to get Soto for that. 15 years, 765m. Wow.

Aren't they still paying for Albert Belle? That's a crazy commitment.
