When you're drafting at #3 or above, you draft the guy who will be a keystone for your franchise rather than a guy who could easily bust. Half the tackles drafted in the top of the draft in recent years have busted.
Or you trade down for a boatload of other good picks, if there’s no sure bet at a position of need.

If we did the same last year, we dont get Drake.

This front office has not yet proven they can scout.

Once you're out of the blue-chip picks, you have to rely on your scouts or you could end up with a whole lotta nothing.

Hunter is going to be a top player in this league. There are never any decent WRs in the FA market.

Drake was pretty much a sure bet at a position of need. So if we did the same last year we’d end up the same as we did.

I mean, we need a WR

They have to be thinking OT Kelvin Banks from Texas in the 1st Round 2025. He is the best OT on the board and can be a mainstay for years in New England. They cannot fool around this off season with the trenches. Draft Banks at #3 and sign the best available free agent veteran offensive lineman.

If they give Maye some time and the backs some daylight, they will be much better. Lots to do after that, but build the line.

They have four picks in the top 75 or so. The 2025 draft is loaded on defense. My preference would be another top corner in round 2 across from Gonzalez, but the DL could use another top tier rookie. The good news is that they both money and picks.
none of the highest rated OT's are rated higher than worthy of a pick in the 10-15 range. These are guys who look like they could end up being good solid starters or they could end up being a guy like Becton. This is clearly not a great year for sure fire OT franchise guys like Alt or the kid from the Lions.

My point is if you think that OT is an absolute MUST in the first round, then you HAVE to trade down and watch someone pick one of the impact defensive players or a QB, DT, Edge or WR. There are some very interesting OTs that will be available in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. But they come with even greater risks. Bottom line I wouldn't be happy if we drafted an OT at #3.

We needed a WR last year and the WR was rated much higher than the choice we made.
Good point. And good question.

Are we better off with Drake Maye
Or
Would we be better off if we’d taken MHJ?

How would you feel about trading down and then double dipping by taking a couple of the higher risk OT prospects?

I’d feel better about that if we still had Dante to coach them up.

I guess we could do it even without trading down, taking some other position at #3, but I’d want to multiply picks by trading down.

You seem to be saying that you want to give Strange a raise in his final contract year. There is no reason to do so.

I suppose that we could extend him as we did with defensive players in 2024, but that likely wouldn't happen at least until after the draft, although I suppose it could happen earlier in order to solidify a 2nd OL position for the next 3 years.

Also, I don't have the confidence that you do that it shouldn't hard for a player to show that he is excellent at a new position in only four games after a long injury, excellent enough to want to extend his contract a couple of years because he is so excellent at his new position.
Points well taken. I’ve seen several too many other dudes go elsewhere when I would’ve liked them to stay here and with the OL the way it is (pick your derisive adjective) I would like to see one good thing come out of it this year. Strange being a VERY DECENT upgrade to Andrews would be the icing. Him being better than the street rejects we’ve had would be a great start though. And yea I was meaning extend the man if he excels in a short time at C. If not then they better hope they have the next best C coming draft or fa because we aren’t overflowing at the position….well we kinda are but with garbage….

?
How could that be?
No one rated higher than Maye.
Maye was the best most valuable draft pick since Patrick Mahomes.
With no way to get him the ball MJH would not have made the same impact as Maye this year. Long term WR shelf life is much shorter than a franchise QB. There would be no opportunity for second guessing if Wolf found anything besides Maye in the draft.

We have so many needs and an unwillingness to spend in free agency so double dipping would leave holes elsewhere.

If Wolf had passed over Maye for MJH, he should've been fired a minute later

Cole Popovich. He’d be an upgrade over the guy who’s getting the guys lost in the details. Keep it simple.

...We have a really weak roster. Drafting for need in 2024 was a disaster, and posters are still calling to draft for need in 2025. Wild.

It's not drafting for need that's disastrous; it's not drafting the best prospect available at that position, over and over and over again...

MJH was ineffective today, in a win by his team that was laughably easy. We would have gotten an entire season of that level of play if we drafted him and had Brisket throwing to him.

Does this team have a clue how to use these pup/ir lists. They keep activating players with time left on their practice window that are not ready to play. Can anyone explain why they would activate him not to play him or even dress him?

And for the love of God he's got to be better than Brown or Robinson if he ever is ready.
