Cole Strange Activated for Cards Game... but wasn't active... Cuz We Can't Have Nice Things...

we learned that he was a solid, every game starting guard in this league pre-injury.......above average run blocker......PFF grades, if you believe in them, had him upper third and at times higher amongst guards his first year as a starter, if memory serves

if he's healthy, he'll be the best G the patriots have......but i also expect a full-time move to center before all is said and done

and if healthy, i expect him to stay with the pats......his price should be decent to re-sign unless his 2025 is stellar
Possibly so.

Coaching is absolutely part of the problem too.
Not having any WRs that force the defense to overplay them opening opportunities for the JAGs is also part of the problem. It is not surprising that these players look ok in supporting roles on teams with real weapons after failing to take a lead role on the Pats.

so ****ing what? he's here, now.

His draft spot means absolutely nothing except the ability to keep him for a fifth year….

And we All know that’s never, Ever happening.

Terrible pick then; even worse pick now.

Strange became highly rated after the Senior Bowl and combine, where he registered one of the highest RAS scores for an offensive lineman in history. He was on every team's radar.

If by “highly rated” you mean top -100, then I agree.

Flip a coin, draw straws, pull names out of a hat. It doesn't matter, they're all ****ing garbage.
They have to be thinking OT Kelvin Banks from Texas in the 1st Round 2025. He is the best OT on the board and can be a mainstay for years in New England. They cannot fool around this off season with the trenches. Draft Banks at #3 and sign the best available free agent veteran offensive lineman.

If they give Maye some time and the backs some daylight, they will be much better. Lots to do after that, but build the line.

They have four picks in the top 75 or so. The 2025 draft is loaded on defense. My preference would be another top corner in round 2 across from Gonzalez, but the DL could use another top tier rookie. The good news is that they both money and picks.

If Travis Hunter is there you have to take him.

No sense risking a flop ona. LT hen you have a bonafide top WR staring you in the face.

If they keep drafting based on need like in 2024, they will keep failing like they did in 2024. Draft based on BPA, we need All Pros not individual positions.
I agree that BPA at any position is more important that the drafting the position with the most need. Alternatively, one might say that we have needs at LT. RT, C, WR1, WR2, DT, DE, EDGE, ILB, CB and S. I certainly wouldn't be opposed to the BPA available at one of these positions.

In addition, trading down if other can provide us value is often right, especially if it is only 2 or 3 spots.
======
BTW, I would NOT have drafted the BPA in 2024. Would you have done so?

Absolutely. I wrote multiple posts at the time to note that and advocate for BPA. Look it up. I also advocated for us to draft BPA in R2 taking defensive pick Brandon Fiske, Cooper DeJean, or Kool-aid McKinstry. Do you think I was right?

We have a really weak roster. Drafting for need in 2024 was a disaster, and posters are still calling to draft for need in 2025. Wild.

His performances seemed fairly mid. My mind is open that he could become a good player for us.

The need on the O-line is greater than the need at WR.
When you're drafting at #3 or above, you draft the guy who will be a keystone for your franchise rather than a guy who could easily bust. Half the tackles drafted in the top of the draft in recent years have busted.

So?

Keep in mind he entered the league at age 24.
Not sure there's any big leap in performance on his horizon?
Not to mention the sub-level & revolving door coaching he's been subjected to.

He does have low tread mileage on him .....only 27 games in 3 season.
But coming off a serious knee injury.
Here's hoping his mobility returns and '25 is his coming out party

So you're drafting high, you're going to pass on a generational WR for a guy who has a 50/50 shot of busting?

And you ask so?

OK, do the stupid thing
The WR could be the bust and the Tackle could be the generational player? You don't know.

and how many of the WR's?

Is Hunter even the best WR of the draft? BTW, if he were drafted in 2024, where would he have ranked? Is he a generational pick as a WR like last year? How can we have generational picks every year? Last year, that judgement seemed more reasonable. Of course, not so reasonable that the top 3 would pass on a franchise QB.

One option at 3 is to trade down 2-4 picks and pick the BPA which is likely a stud WR or a stud OT (but could be a stud defensive player). The point is that we are drafting for value, the BPA, or trade down if we can get enough as long as we are relatively sure at still getting top player. Other than QB, all those in the top 6-8 seem to qualify as a reliably top prospect, although (as we well know from you know who), defensive picks are much less likely to be bests than picks on offense although of course that does happen.
