The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

I happen to be in Raleigh the end of last week and it was big news there. At first I sort of rolled my eyes at the idea but upon further reflection there's points to be made for him taking a college job.

1. He is sick of the modern athlete and wants athletes who when asked to jump don't ask why, they ask how high.
College is even worse in this regard than the pros. They all want NIL money and they are constantly asking for it - I mean, even after the season has begun. UNLV had a starting QB who started 3 games, decided he wasn't getting paid enough, and quit on the team right then and there (having only played 3 games, he didn't use a year of eligibility). Every athlete is an unrestricted free agent every year. If you don't play a guy, he'll up and leave. You can suspend a player, but it doesn't hit him in the wallet since players don't get paid per game, they just get a generic payment from anyone who wants to give 'em one.

Gotta say this has my interest piqued a lot more than BB going to a new NFL team. Couldn’t care less how he does on a different NFL team but I will be following him at UNC now.
Your going to have to explain the logic behind this?

Not much to explain. I’m a lot more interested in one vs the other. Fascinated to see the BB driven overhaul to the program and what his take is on defense against the ACC. Including BC if they’re on the schedule.

I think the game of football at the college level is potentially a great fit for Bill’s talents. They can still play defense there

NFL? Been there done that already.

So, BB is going to start over coaching in college and quit on the NFL win record.

Ahhhhh, no.

If true that means he's made some calls and NFL has every door closed for him, probably he keeps stubborn as **** regarding having full control.

Sounds like the college route would grease the skids for his son to take over when he retires. Something that he couldn't pull off in the NFL

Wow. too bad they don't have an early odds on making the college playoffs for 2025. I'd be all over that. Even if he ultimately falls on his face. It'd be a good value bet.

Ahhhhh, no.
Reports out of NC are that he accepted the offer with terms. Just reported UNC powers to be agreed to meet those terms. So it sounds as if this is going to happen.

Especially since Miami, Syracuse, and BC at least are all losing their QBs.

Tom Curran made a good case on why it made sense for Bill to do this and try to, essentially, revamp the culture of NCAA football. I listened and thought it made sense on paper, but in practice, I am not sure some petulant 18 year old is going to listen to Bill's bullchit when he can simply go in the portal and end up with a guy like Coach Prime. Prime's way seems to be much more in tune with today's social-media-influencer-instant-gratification player who's used to getting their ass kissed. I just don't see Bill's cantankerous methods resonating with today's young people. There may be some who sign up for it, but I think the vast majority are going to opt out. Bill can, as he says, become a feeder program for the NFL. Won't mean chit if NFL level players don't buy in to his ways.

The next time "Prime" makes a tackle, will be the 1st.
Dude is the epitome of Diva loudmouth...

He better get his son Steven a personal trainer. Whenever I was watching UW games this year they would show him on the sidelines. He’s gained a lot of weight.

I agree. Talent in college wins out over all. He's going to have to get the highest level players to compete and if he is a hardass on them, he literally can't do a single thing to stop them from going in the portal to play for a Georgia or Alabama.

You don't win in college because you built the most cohesive and complimentary team. You win because you have the best athletes. Too many colleges and too much of a gap in player skill that just doesn't exist in the NFL.

When Belichick left NE (and no one in the NFL wanted him), I thought there was a chance he would take a college role with Navy. Maybe not as HC, but as a special assistant/advisor. I have to admit I am completely surprised the way things are turning out.

Yeah I'm shocked there isn't a NFL knocking on his door. I guess his age and control was a bigger issue than I thought.

It will be interesting to hear how this all played out but with Bill that story might not ever get told.

ESPN outlines the remaining issues and suggests that something may work out, but it's clearly no done deal, yet.

With the portal system, though, every day burned hurts next year's roster. So it better get done this week.

This is from the local station, so it seems like a formality at this point.

What are the boosters willing to pay out for money, UNC boosters have never been too generous. In the current state of college football that is one of the biggest factors in recruiting talent.
