The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

IMO, something bad happened at the end with Kraft. Something really bad. Kraft let the other owners know and now no one will touch him. To me that is the only viable explanation for interviewing at an ACC college ... JMO.
I guess you don't have a close family.

Belichick will be able to have his son as a HC in waiting and be able to train him and then help him after his son becomes HC. I suspect that setting his son up for a few years means something to Bill. After that, his son will be better prepared to have a successful career.

It's simpler. 73 is old for a HC and no team wants to hire someone that they view as a short term. There's a such thing as a "win now QB". The NFL doesn't believe in a "win now coach". Also people just generally do not trust him with having full team control and are worried he will try to maneuver for that.

Whenever I see Bill's name tossed around as a potential hire for teams, the resistance usually comes from fans of that particular team who are weary of what they saw here the last few years and don't think they are getting the old Bill.

Also, even though guys like McDaniels, Patricia, Judget etc are all solid coordinators, they all have developed a horrible reputation in the NFL and nobody gets excited about Bill bringing those guys with him.

I think there are more nuances, but it’s generally true that Bill’s age is a big factor. He is not going to be interested in an NFL gig with a team that’s a dumpster fire, simply because it will take too long to turn things around. He needs a team that is seriously underperforming the talent on the roster, where he can be the difference between falling short again and a deep playoff run. Teams that are looking at turning things around with a total rebuild won’t be interesting to him, nor will they be interested in him because he’ll be gone before the turnaround is complete.

College may actually be a better place for immediate results. Essentially there will be total roster turnover every four years (ignore redshirts, not enough to be significant). Bill could come in and see his results in two to three years. Maybe less, if his past performance recycling NFL castoffs translates to the transfer portal. A college championship would nicely complement his Lombardis, wouldn’t it?

There’s some real smoke here, per some sources.

UNC has an easy schedule next year...no Miami, no SMU, no Florida State (yes, they sucked this year but they always have a roster loaded w 4 and 5 stars) and non conference cupcakes Charlotte, Richmond, Central FL, only tough spots are opener vs TCU and Clemson, but both are at home. No wonder Bill is interested

The ACC is the 3rd best conference in the nation. They are the only conference besides the Big 10 and SEC with a chance to send 2 teams to the playoffs.
..... as I was saying .......

Simply - he won't have Tom Brady as his QB.

Yup. There's a reason why no 70+ year old coach has ever won anything in the NFL. Bill wouldn't change that if he were to find a job again.

Highly unlikely he'll coach again in the NFL.

I agree with this but if I’m a fan of another team in need of a head coach and they hire someone unproven without at least seeming to consider BB and it doesn’t work out I’m not sure I’d be mollified by being told it’s due to his age. This is especially true for season ticket holders.

Are the Falcons better off with Raheem Morris than they would have been with BB? Same question for the Bears and Saints who’ve already canned their guy, and the Giants, Cowboys, and Jaguars who may be firing theirs on Black Monday. I think Jacksonville would be stupid to pass on BB, Vrabel, or Flores.

I happen to be in Raleigh the end of last week and it was big news there. At first I sort of rolled my eyes at the idea but upon further reflection there's points to be made for him taking a college job.

1. He is sick of the modern athlete and wants athletes who when asked to jump don't ask why, they ask how high.
2. Bring in Steven with the idea he's the successor.
3. It's possible Kraft is black balling him and he won't get NFL offers.
4. Only three coaches have won at both levels: Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer and Pete Carrol. So even if he doesn't break Shula's record maye he joins this list.
5. More time to hang and bang with the cheerleader.
6. Is made the head coach of the lacrosse team too.

The last two are obviously jokes before the literal police start quoting and saying what a tool I am.

if this isnt a clear indication that he is going accept the job soon, not sure what is

It'd be a shock if BB actually went to college.
If he's going to spend any of his golden years coaching, you'd think it'd be ONLY to chase the NFL win's record and finish as the undisputed GOAT. And I'd like to see that too. But the only options for him in '25 might be the Giants or Bears. He'd be foolish to take the Cowboys job, and the Browns would be dumb to fire Stefanski, but that's a dark horse that BB might return where he started.

You really wanna come here? We really don't want you anyway. I guess you could come, we'll figure out if you can play.
