The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

Yes Ron Meyer's success at SMU was about his coaching and not the payments he arranged.
It was about both. He did the same thing at Purdue and UNLV too - but flashing that SB ring he got with the Cowboys was a deal-sealer.

You can pretend the entire SWC wasn't doing the exact same thing if you'd like. Eric ****erson's gold Camaro didn't come from SMU.

"Whether it's in high school..."

Bill might soon find out that Johnny Foxborough can't actually make that 5 yard out.

Plus really young ones in high school.

No one ****ing wants Belichick. He's going to go down as one of the most overrated coaches (look at the results without Brady) in sports history. No one wanted him after Krafty Bob ****canned him, and no one wants him now.

Bill's hero.

Sounds like he believes the NFL door is almost closed for him. No surprise tbh. He is 73 in April.

So yeah this sounds like he has legit interest in a move to the ACC.

Under the above scenario it’s actually pretty plausible. Bill does have a serious affinity for blatant nepotism and cronyism. “I’ll do it IF you guarantee my son the job when I leave”.

Actually, kind of makes me wonder if that wasn’t an additional sore spot in NE…

“You made Jerod successor and not my son”.

Hell, I’m not even sure he would have been wrong as making Steve the successor would have given Bill actual motivation to help leave the team better.

That's right *****es. I'm a 3 time super bowl champion!

Subtle analysis.

Honestly, I'd just retire at this point. He can have a cushy media job for the rest of his life and be a respected legend without all the criticism. Taking a college job will look like he couldn't get back in the NFL and had to take a step down the food chain and there's going to be a ton of attention on whether he succeeds or not and a whole debate about whether Bill's philosophy works anymore with the younger generation.

Honestly that to me seems like the problem. The Cowboys on paper seem like a great fit.... but Jerry Jones is a control freak and wants total control which is going to be an issue with Bill. Also we don't know if Jones will keep McCarthy for another year.

The Giants are obviously a sweetheart team for Bill, but they are so down right now that it's a total rebuild, and we saw how Bill's last rebuild went. If he wants to go somewhere, win, and chase the wins record, that's not an ideal spot.

Bill has to be selective when taking an NFL job. He's 73 and getting fired again probably means he's done for good. He's also not going to have the same level of rope he had in NE with a pedigree of winning and and a grateful fanbase that is sentimental towards him. If he takes an NFL spot, he needs to really feel confidant that it's a fit.

All good points, I just can’t see him recruiting high school kids.

This simply furthers my belief that BB is fundamentally a weird guy. This is very far from the first time I’ve observed his behavior and actions and said to myself “why the hell is he doing that?”

It worked for Ron Meyer at SMU.
The ACC is a dogshit conference -
The ACC is the 3rd best conference in the nation. They are the only conference besides the Big 10 and SEC with a chance to send 2 teams to the playoffs.

Bill is getting his son a good HC job and a year in which to train him.

if BB is willing to take the CIN job, they would be absolute idiots if they don't fire Taylor and hire him

College coaching is more about recruiting than it is about X's and O's. Your major programs - which UNC is not - can sleepwalk their way to 8 wins per season. The difference between your good teams and your great teams is those 3 other games.

I don't doubt his ability to coach young men, but what I doubt is his ability to get those young men to come play for him in the first place.
I disagree. I think a high school kid being recruited by the GOAT NFL HC is going to be very attracted to the opportunity to lay a solid foundation for his NFL career, if he thinks he wants one. It’d be like selling a Manning summer camp for aspiring QBs. I think BB would be a significant recruiting advantage.

And Bill loves football, and loves teaching football. The chance to teach young players is likely very attractive to him.

I'm starting to think Lawrence might never be really good. He's got the physical tools but it's still questionable if he's got the mental ones.
We should have seen some improvement there by now.
Well there’s an NFL starting quality backup waiting in the wings, isn’t there?
