The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

Pat Kirwan had an interesting take on this. He thinks BB may take an interview like this to recommend someone rather than himself. Otherwise it makes no sense to me.
What a lot of y'all are missing is Bill is a Coach.
He wants to coach. If there's not an NFL gig that he's interested in, then he might very well go with a college HC job. And some college gigs would be better than a crappy NFL franchise that doesn't do things right and the owner sucks.
College job is also not as time-consuming. Maybe at this point in his life he doesn't want to work 100+ hours a week and sleep in the office.
But I think Bill is happiest when coaching.
Getting down in a 3pt stance and showing young OL proper technique.
He loves that ****.

Cincinnati Bengals is shaping up to be a perfect marriage for BB, they need to fix that defense and some sense of urgency, that HC sleeps at the wheel too much and then the season is gone, BB just needs to accept he won't be able to be anywhere close to a draft board and free agency board.

The state he left the NE Patriots roster has got to be one of the worst assembling roster jobs ever in the history of Football. And he wouldn't draft Drake Maye.

Yeah BB will never make a draft selection again and deservedly so. He can coach though.

Makes zero sense and I don't understand the reason. There is no way he wants to deal with all that comes with college coaching. Also, this is not that big of a program right?

Then there is the angle of him failing in college. That would be a disaster for his legacy.

Horrible idea!

People with healthy egos don’t think like that. BB doesn’t think he’ll fail. He thinks he’ll win and grow his legacy. I’m not saying he’ll be a hit, but I betcha BB thinks he will…

UNC isn’t a huge program - in the grand scheme. But neither was Gonzaga, neither was Duke, in fact. The right coach can change fortunes. San Antonio pre Pop vs afterwards. Hell, NE pre vs post BB.

I think he’d be much better at recruiting than people think. Whether he’d like it ? Can’t guarantee that one.

chasing heels?
Who was the NCAA football HC that was going to frat parties and drinking Natty Light with the students?

He got fired. Larry Eukassey?

Yeah I guess maybe this somehow puts pressure on some teams to show some interest or he just doesn't want the ******** and coaching a few more years at a small school is easier.
I’m not sure coaching in college is easier, not with the transfer portal and NIL.

Never hurts to meet new people in the business especially in the college ranks.

I still believe that Daboll is gone and the NY Giants job is Bills. Bill wont take the Cowboys job.

Saban is Bills BFF and he quit college ball for that reason.

College coaching is more about recruiting than it is about X's and O's. Your major programs - which UNC is not - can sleepwalk their way to 8 wins per season. The difference between your good teams and your great teams is those 3 other games.

I don't doubt his ability to coach young men, but what I doubt is his ability to get those young men to come play for him in the first place.

Yup. Roy Williams said before or when he retired that I have to work so hard recruiting them to come here and now once they get here I have to recruit them every day just to stay.

And then not enter the transfer portal.

Money will lead to nothing but problems.

BB is dating a cheerleader. Perfect fit. Rah, rah.

He gives up any chance of catching Shula and, as others have said, UNC does not have a strong football program. Clemson and Miami will be hard to beat on a sustained basis when the emphasis and alumni support is focused on basketball.

As recently as five years ago, this might have made some sense. Since then, there's no "charm" anymore in recruiting 4 and 5 star kids, it is just a contractual negotiation. Going to a program because they can "get me to the League" through coaching is only relevant now for the kids that can't make 7 figures while in college.

Also, I've been the fan of an ACC team for decades and it just feels over to me. They just lost all their games to the SEC in a basketball tournament. I don't see any way UNC can muster the economics in that scenario to become a regular top 10 team. And I don't see Belichick being interested in less. If he just want to coach college kids for fun he'd go to Div II or a military academy.

Not surprising tbh. The Cowboys are the only win now team that might have an opening. I doubt he wants to go to the Giants or Jags when they got a year or so before being competitive

There is a lot of talent on the Jags if Lawrence and play half way decent. Plus more high draft picks this year.

Yeah but is Bill going to fix Trevor? Cause whoever takes that job is stuck with him

I agree. Stuck with Lawrence. Hires McDaniels and Patricia. There is a lot of raw talent on the Jags.

I'm starting to think Lawrence might never be really good. He's got the physical tools but it's still questionable if he's got the mental ones.
We should have seen some improvement there by now.
