Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

If Kraft had a choice of HOF or sticking another Super Bowl trophy in BB's face, he would take the later.

He'd get in the Hall with another Super Bowl anyway.

It's not even close.
See, I read him exactly the other way around. He's already spent SBs he could have had in toadying to the inner circle of owners that he wants to be accepted by. How may SBs could those stolen draft picks he willingly gave away have brought us? It's not football success that he craves, it's social acceptance. He's got some kind of inferiority complex that needs feeding.

We need talent. Ben Johnson has an all star squad of offensive talent in Detroit. We don’t have Sewell, Gibbs, St. Brown, Williams, etc… what’s Johnson gonna do with the likes of Polk, Baker, and the worst o-line in the league? We saw how great Josh looked in LV and Denver when he didn’t have Brady and Gronk.

I don’t know if Van Pelt is the answer, but with this cast of misfits how can anyone really judge what kind of job he’s doing? He’s seemed to do well coaching up Maye.

We have a bottom of the barrel roster in terms of talent, thanks to BB, Wolf, and Groh. Krafts biggest mistake wasn’t getting rid of BB, it was retaining Wolf and Groh. He should have just cut the cord completely. New staff and new vision. Mayo will get a 2nd year but he seems to be in over his head. Let’s just hope Wolf doesn’t botch the next draft so when we do clean house after next year there is some talent for the new guys.
We have had teams with holes before even with BB. But a good QB hides a lot of issues. I wonder how the patriots would be doing with BB last yr if it wasnt mac jones but was baker mayfield or even Drake Maye.

They would still have no O-line and the worst WR room in the league. Just like they do now.

With our o-line and WRs no QB would look great

I had assumed the answer was no and that only positional coaches would lose their jobs until he made that stupid challenge Sunday. It's still probably no, but that really did away with my patience.

That was before. He was a fat cat then.

Now fans view him as third of three, and a distant third at that, EVEN THOUGH I DISAGREE.

I think Kraft views this as humiliation, if he doesn't get back on top. If he can't it will always be Tom and Bill.

Before he viewed himself as toast of the town even if that was fake.

Kraft chose Bill, who he hated, over Brady, who was a son, to him.

Another Super Bowl is first on the list for Kraft.

Well, wanting it and knowing how to get it are two different things. If he thinks he's on the path to his next SB then he's going to be disappointed.

Well, Merrill Hodges was right when he said Darke Maye will get a coach fired

UNC fired Mack Brown toady, funny how bad a coach you become when you lose and all world QB! BB Understands!

Just not sure how he gets Mayo fired without leaving?

He won't get MayoNays fired - that'll happen all by itself eventually - but Boomhauer's gonna get the Next coach fired if he continues his Two turnovers per game pace...

Bill had autonomy. Kraft didn't choose anything. Bill did.

Right. But another Super Bowl and Kraft is credited as the architect.

With this management group, yes.

I love everything about the kid except the amount of turnovers
I get he is trying to carry the Offense.
I can except a few turnovers. But they are the same type of turnovers
Strip sacks and times when you just throw the ball away
But he gives us hope. He has all the other intangibles

Once you have all the money and success in the world, you need something new to chase, and for a lot of these billionaires, it is social ranking. There are so many hierarchies within the social structure of the 1%. Old money vs. new money, political influence, media influence, etc. Once you get that rich and successful, it isn't about money anymore; it is about power and status. Those things are significantly harder to buy, and right now, Kraft is coming off as a guy doing everything he can to sit at the cool kid's table.

There are lots of reasons to think the Patriots will make a big jump in talent in 2025-26 based on where they will draft (four in the top 80 selections as of this writing), the mountain of cash they have to spend ($139M according to Spotrac), and a full year of experience by the new GM, front office, and coaching staff.

In an odd sort of way, the Miami game was useful to sear into the collective brain of the organization just how important it is to address the offensive line. Right now, they should be looking to replace the OL coach. Every year for 20+ years, Dante Scarnecchia delivered an improving OL that knew how to approach pre-snap errors. Some of those lines were stone walls, others were patchwork groups due to injuries. Scarnecchia never lowered his standards. Just pay the best OL Coach in the business and add three new players.

Let's say David Andrews, Mike Onwenu and Cole Strange come back next season. They have the two rookies from this year coming back. That leaves them with the need for two or three players who are upgrades - a rookie center and two tackles would be necessary, preferably a veteran LT and first or second round rookie. If they do that, the offense improves.

On defense, add a top-flight edge rusher and see what Bentley can do. From a talent perspective, there's plenty of defensive talent. Getting Peppers back this week to work with Dugger in the defensive backfield will improve things.

If they address the OL and add an edge rusher that commands attention, they'll spend a bunch of money but still have picks and money left to strengthen other areas - WR, RB, DB. Let's say two of four new guys in the trenches are rookies and they spend $30 million combined on two veterans. They'll still have lots of cash to pay a veteran receiver. I hate the diva WR who sucks all the oxygen out of the room, but maybe they have to do that this year.

Staffwise, I'd keep Mayo and his coordinators. Continuity is important right now and there's no reason Mayo won't get better. The weakest link on the coaching staff is the OL Coach who is not effective.
I agree with much of what you said (I would love Walker Little from Jacksonville for LT if he's not tagged/resigned). However, as I said before last off season, many of the players on Defense are on the old side, and/or not as talented as we would like. Barmore needs a stud next to him (Deone Walker/Mason Graham, Etc.). Andrews might not even play next season, and if he does we still need a young plug and play Center (as that's an underrated OL position, especially for a young QB and in reality, we should have two of them). We missed the boat on Braelon Allen in the 4th Round (who I lobbied for before the 2024 Draft, as we're not as talented and as deep at RB as we need to be). We also need a young and true FS. And even if we improve the talent in all 3 phases (which will still take 2 more off seasons after 2025 if we do it right), if Mayo and the rest of the coaching staff are not up to the task, said coaching staff will be a detriment to the team reaching it's potential. And that's not counting if Wolf/Groh actually can properly evaluate talent. There's a lot on our plate for sure!

For those making the argument that Belichick was given a 2nd year after having a bad team, I looked up the numbers.

Average margin of defeat, 2000 Patriots= 8.27 pts
Average margin of defeat, 2024 Patriots= 12.22 pts

Big difference.
Also remember that Kraft is now in his 80s vs being in his late 50's. The clock is ticking on his life. If the team keeps playing this way, I think Mayo is gone at the end of the year.

In 2000 they still let you play defense.
