Food for thought. Last year when we played in Miami the score was

31-17.
This year it was

34-15

Idk why this result shocks people.
Because that game wasn't over at halftime like it was this year. They've played Miami competitively the last couple of years, despite their dreadful offensive play.

Last year it was 17-7 at halftime and 24-10 before the 4th quarter. It was slightly more competive, but really the only difference was the loss was more evenly distributed. The Patriots had a bad first half today and a much better second half. The Patriots had two ****ty halves last year just not one dreadful one.

They still got pantsed. Miami put up 390 yards. 312 of it passing. Miami actually had less yards today. Our offense also had 50 more yards today. The score difference was a net of 4 points. There was a 1 turnover variance between the two games (Maye's INT today vs Tua last year). And we had better time of possession today.

Ultimately, they gave up one ****ty drive in the first half that made the first part of the game a lot worse, but overall, it really wasn't that different.

Edit: on top of that Waddle was the biggest issue for the Patriots last year as well. He ate us up. Last year he had 144 yards. This year 121. Both games he had 1TD. And there was a 1 reception difference (he had 8 today vs 7 last year).

Still like what I see from Maye, but that Mac Jones esque INT... I guess we'll see what comes up for the combination of "rookie making steady improvements" and "other teams now have more film on the new QB, so they can gameplan better."

Fun fact: Mayo will not be a good HC draw for FA's. Teams will prefer the alternatives.
Neither will the cheap owner, the ****ty team, or the MA millionaire tax

We don't need to revise history. Mayo is not coming on a team that already had a well established franchise QB in Bledsoe (he currently has a rookie who only started a few games), Ty Law, Troy Brown, Damian Woody, Willie McGinest, Tedy Bruschi, Lawyer Milloy, Kevin Faulk and Adam Vinatieiri as a baseline to build off of. We aren't a rookie Tom Brady coming into his own, Matt Light and Richard Seymour away from really taking off. There's a lot.
Right, we don’t need to revise history. Troy Brown had 137 catches in a 7 year career through 1999. McGinest was considered inconsistent and injury prone. Kevin Faulk had 3.4 Y/A rushing and 12 receptions his rookie year. Bruschi was an ascending player with a cool name through 1999, but still considered limited. A kicker as one of your stars to build on?

Point is, many of these guys became household names *because* of what happened when Belichick got there. Only a few like Bledsoe and Law were considered stars beforehand.

There is some talent on this roster, just not nearly enough so we have a lot of practice squad or worse guys getting playing time. It doesn’t necessarily need to be 3-5 years if we hit on everything. If we drafted Drake Maye at #3 overall but outbid the Chargers for Jim Harbaugh instead of Mayo, I’d bet this team would be very competitive in 2025.

I think the latter is exactly what's happening with the strip sacks/fumbles. 4 strip sacks in 7 games. That's not a small number.

I am convinced there's something there on tape like he's not protecting the ball well under pressure and now teams are attacking that flaw. I'd like to say I'm confident the coaches will fix that but I'm not confident about anything around the coaches right now.

Drake Maye, 140 million in cap space, top 5 pick. What’s getting me through the season.

Wolf, all by himself, can ruin most of that.
Will see what happens. I’d be shocked if their not one of the most aggressive teams this offseason.

All the 2024 resigns aside from Michael Onwenu was a mistake.
Onwenu has not lived up to his contract.
It’s weird because as a rookie he played out of position and was surprisingly better than expected but not great. Year 2 he played LG and was awful. Since then he seems to be valued because he can play RG or RT but he really is a liability at RT and very average at RG.
We could have gotten a better player with the money. But then we didn’t spend to the cap so better to have him than nobody I guess.

That’s what we said a year ago.
Wolf was aggressive this year, he got almost everyone he pursued. The problem is who he pursued.

Qe keep saying this and most years it's nothing...

I didn't agree with the Rham money.
You need a RB, he’s an average starter and versatile. We ate 40 mill so paying him just meant Kraft canned a little less and we gave a capable rb.
