Finished ALL-22 Tape review and just highlighting a few things.
Defense
Guys that are terrible on defense based on this games tape
-Marco Wilson (hopefully he's not back)-Terrible, just terrible all the way around looks lost out there. 1 drive he had 3 plays he blew leading to completed passes. Marcus Jones was talking to him after 1 play where he switched wrong and left a guy wide open.
-Daniel Ekuale-Doesn't do anything well, other than that he's great?
-Sione Takitaki-Takes more wrong paths to the rb than I've ever seen, no strength to get off blocks
Studs on defense:
-Keion White-He's very, very good
-Christian Gonzalez-All-Pro level play
-Dell Pettus-2 weeks in a row, been great, stop pulling him for Hawkins (who is ok)-He's been better then Duggar who was OK in this game. May have missed on some draft picks but hit on this UDFA
Other guys:
-Barmore-Looked like needs some time to get into game shape, lacked his usual burst but dude is strong! Holds up to double teams, gets off blocks in run game, just needs to get the pass rush burst back.
-Ngakoue-Never got close on pass rush, just a non-factor, they took White off the field on some plays to put him in, big downgrade
-Christian Ellis-Was showing up early in the game but then kind of just disappeared.
-Pharma: After last week's great game he was mostly bad, especially against the run, just easily pushed back off the line.
Notes:
On the long TD pass with the all-out blitz: Barmore, White and Pettus were all on the bench for that play. Makes no sense.
Offense
Studs on tape this game:
-Drake Maye-Kind of ridiculous how much better he is than most NFL QB's, saw 2 plays under pressure where maybe he had time to get to a better read. 1 the throwaway in the end zone he had DD on the in cut but a free rusher and the first read was not to DD but had a chance to see it IMO and didn't.
-Demario Douglas-If Maye had some time on a couple plays Douglas could have had a big game. He was open a ton in the middle of the field. I do think he should have looked for the ball just as he made his break on the interception but a miscommunication for 2 guys playing their 6th game together does not take away from how well he played
-Hunter Henry-Consistently good at everything
Other Guys:
Polk-Outside the obvious 2 dumb and "you can't do it" mental mistakes he had some separation when he was out there, on 1 sack if Maye had time he had Polk for a huge gain. For the most part he was not part of the first couple reads but ran solid routes overall in limited plays, looked better than he has most of this year on his routes.
Boutte-Yeah, a drop but he's a good player, he's a definite keeper, gets open enough, good hands overall, willing blocker, only 22, could be the #2 receiver here for a long time and think he'll be good
Marcus Jones-Played one of his better game, AND played on offense-woohoo, about time! Still got beat again on that down and out, seems to be the play he struggles with a few times each game.
Kendrick Bourne-Finally played a good game and looked like you would expect form a veteran.
Offensive Line
-Considering the pass rush and blitzes of the Rams they held up well enough. Very first play of the game Jacobs allows a free rusher with a bad decision on who to block. Run blocking was not bad, the stats were hurt by many failed short yardage runs.
-Jacobs-He's been playing well but seems to get beat on the mental aspect of the game more than the physical. Late to come off double teams to block blitzers or stunts, can choose the wrong guy to block. Responsible for 6 pressures, double anyone else.
-Jordan was OK but doesn't get a lot of push, was beat inside a couple times. Solid backup that has to start and maximizing his talent, not much else to say.
Lowe-Continues to be solid with a few plays a game where he has some pass pro issues. Overall, he's holding up pretty well. Was beat for the sack where Maye would have had Polk pretty wide open deep.
-Onwenu played well, still clearly the best lineman, Brown was solid to good
Other thoughts
-AVP called a pretty good game other than the continued calls to run on 3rd and short. I'd love to go back and see the success rate running on 3rd and 4th and 1 vs passing. Maye is 5 for 5 on a series, completes a 6 yard pass in red zone, runs on 2nd and 4 and 3rd and 1 and then the play Polk got called on would have been a delay of game but they had some stupid direct snap call going on. No designed runs for Maye is something they said they won't do this year, dumb!
HOWEVER, he had good wr spacing, many good play calls, looked like a good OC. Marcus Jones on offense was great to see, Great call at goal line to Lowe.
-Hopefully they can maintain a top 5 pick pace and get the T-Mac/Hunter selection done to solidify the wr position with a good #1 guy for Drake,
-Team is playing hard, hustling, they are not quitting at all.
