Mayo is really in idiot but that’s what you get when you don’t hire based on competence.

I know they could have gotten pinned deeper but there's a really good chance that you get the ball at the 20. If you put your rookie at the 10 with just under 2 minutes to go for a TD to win, you want him to not do too much. And he did. And they lost.

This draft could be lousy, but it may be due to bad coaching. I always want to give people benefit of the doubt and so far, the bad coaching has outweighed bad plays by players by a severe margin. Yes our OL has looked outmatched a lot but we had Dante for a long time and saw him take late pick OLs and turn them into serviceable OLs. I think our OLs are not getting the coaching that they desperately need.

The worst thing the organization can do is to pour a ton of resources to get players and then give this staff 3 years to figure it out. We could be wasting years of Maye and the other foundation players that we have.
What would Scar have made of Lowe's admission that he was warned repeatedly for lining up wrong - and then did it again to rack up a game critical penalty?

I think alot of it too is actually drafting these guys thinking they can be game Changers.. I think polk and baker will eventually be contributing players in the offense but it's just not going to happen this season.. get the " guy" at WR and every one else falls in pecking order.
Baker is a project. They must see some upside in him, or they wouldn't keep him around, but it's getting to be a little weird that he has seen so little action. Polk seems to be genuinely afflicted psychologically. It's probably hard for us to understand the pressure these guys are under, the intensity of the scrutiny they bear. Many of them carry the hopes of entire extended families on their backs. I'd probably just let this season run out on him, then bring him back next year on a short leash. The train is about to leave the station, and at some point he's just gotta jump on. The reason I would show this patience is that he seemed so genuinely promising in camp and pre-season, so it's reasonable to show a little patience.

Might have gotten a step stool and punched him in the nose, you know, to help clarify his thinking.
I've seen Scar get in the face of guys twice his size. Honey Badger...

Are the constant one score game losses a byproduct of bad coaching or a roster void of talent?
As bad as we look at times, the spread between us and the top ain't that great ... watching other teams play, the overall quality of play in the league seems pretty crappy. Maybe its injuries?

My concern is that top players over the past several years are gaining more and more leverage over where they end up playing. I see no reason not to assume this trend - in the direction of an NBA-style relationship between teams and players - will continue. If it does so, Maye might choose to resist the Pats' effort to retain him, and such resistance might be much more the norm at that point even than it is now. If this team does not demonstrate a more effective determination to surround him with at least a serviceable set of teammates, I for one won't blame him a bit. I'll blame ownership.
I just can't imagine it would be that bad for that long, look at Herbert, bad situation for 4 years with bad coaching, but signed a 5 year deal and now has an NFL level coaching staff and a good defense despite not having a true #1 recover.

Obviously 5 years in Maye is getting killed every play he might take an extreme approach and try to bail but odds very low.

They reportedly assigned him to cover the perimeter, not a particular player. And that's more or less one side story getting a lot of attention given that they weren't using him to try and shut down guys who were giving them problems, especially after McVay caught on to what they were doing and worked to ensure the offense "stayed away" from him.

Wait... what? The coaches saw something from up high and radioed down to the coach so they could adjust what they did on the field? That's cheating!!! Take away a first rounder for that.

Related to Wolf being incompetent... I have to wait on that.
It seems it is factual that in FA - no one wanted to come here. He tried with a lot of players, and was spurned.

But, this offseason should be better - all because of Maye... Which he didn't overthink and picked (BB would not have).
And because of that pick, skill players should be more interested in coming here. Even Defensive guys might want to sign on.
Everyone seems to like playing for Mayo.

But OL is 1st priority. And Defense already needs a re-tool, with a new DC too.
I really want to see the Pats scouting reports on the WR's and the QB's.
That would tell me everything I need to know. Without that it is very hard to judge the decisions made in the draft and the competence of the entire operation.

But if draft was done over today no way at all he drafts Polk, he either drafts Ladd or trades down and takes the Center Pitt took. So already we can say he made a bad pick because today he would not make that same pick.

Not yet he isn't.

Thornton is though.
You'll come around eventually. I knew Polk was a bust during OTAs, when I saw his lack of suddenness and concrete cleats. Then, we all saw his laughably overblown estimation of his own talent. And now Polk puts up another goose egg yesterday. If he was going to be any good, he'd already be showing up. The advanced stats on him are atrocious. He just doesn't get open.

We are so lucky to get those he kills drives by jumping Offsides unreal for a WR.

Both your guesses are as wrong as anything can be. No surprise.
Well, my first "guess" was an expression of disbelief at the ridiculous argument you were making. The second was an attempt to attribute your mind-numbingly bad take to spite and not a lack of intelligence. So I guess we both know what the problem is here. Definitely not spite.

He probably would not be getting snaps under Scar if he's as dumb as he sounds.

Agreed and that I believe it the approach the teams taking with polk.. he has ability, but being a rookie and as he said himself putting pressure on himself personally can be overwhelming. I say get him some easy passes or end around to get him involved in the offseason it would do wonders for him physiological

The average WRs patriots draft bust have stuck around for average of 3.5 seasons. So polk isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

80yds is unacceptable at this time I'm off the Slow Polk Train I jumped!

Agreed. Plus waste Maye when he is on the rookie contract.

To be fair, Maye looks better every game, including his footwork, so there is some QB coaching competency, although not game time coaching or play calling competency. The defense looks awful too.

Maye took some vicious shots yesterday amazed that he had 282 yards he could have had more ie...drops and positive plays called back.
