In Game Adjustments, or the Lack Thereof

Okay... this defense got lit up by the Rams... They shifted what they were doing to match what our defense was doing and struck pay dirt...

Then we proceeded to let them score 4 tds back to back to back to back...

Why aren't we making simple in game adjustments... Especially on Defense... its frustrating that is keeps happening... If this happens vs Miami next week, we are gonna have a 50 burger hung on us
Pape.. I analyzed everything with the defense. Covington said he is playing the same defense BB ran along the same principles. The defense has the same issues as the offense they don't create big plays and they fail to execute. It's lack of talent. Outside of gonzo and a healthy Barmore currently there is no play makers. For the life of me they can't stop the run for anything.. what happened to the one of the best run stuffing DTs in Godchaux as he says.

Covington is not running the same defense Bill was. He cant be. Those defenses were predicated on trying to take away a teams strongest attribute. They were fluid, always evolving. Maybe it didn't always work. Maybe the talent was over matched at times. But they at least tried.

If you have analyzed this defense, you mast have come to the same conclusion that I have - that they have become the Jethro Tull Defense... Thick as a Brick... and not in a good way.

That's part of the problem Pape, they are not making in game adjustments. To have Gonzo just hovering on the perimeter is almost criminal. Even McVeigh was surprised that they didn't put Gonzo on any of their biggest weapons.
John, some times the most obvious answer is the best answer.

When I say analyzed meaning go back to week 1.. they were fluid, sound, sure tackling and bottled up the run. Week 2 Bentley goes down the communication sufferers and things go down hill from there.. Peppers situation made it worse. It's talent and scheme/coaching Covington said that but to your point he's not doing anything to take away a teams best weapon. It's mind boggling.

Ha. Me in an IndyCar driving along the same principles as Mario Andretti. Same results guaranteed...

If Bill was HC (DC) they would not have allowed 4 TDs on 5 possessions.

Drafting players and running a team is where he fell off. Game plans and in-game adjustments he still had his fastball.

Lets hope Cov can learn sooner rather than later.

Let's hope he learns in the Unemployment line on Black Monday.

I just asked Deep AI how to beat the Dolphins. Below is the AI's reply. If anyone can share this with the Pats coaching staff as it would be helpful.

Beating the Miami Dolphins, like any other NFL team, requires a comprehensive game plan that takes into account their strengths and weaknesses. Here are some general strategies that could help:

  1. Defensive Strategy:
    • Pressure the Quarterback: Tua Tagovailoa has shown vulnerability under pressure. Utilizing blitzes and stunts can disrupt his rhythm.
    • Contain the Speed: The Dolphins have a speedy offense with playmakers like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Ensure cornerbacks have help over the top to limit big plays.
    • Stop the Run: Focus on stopping Miami's running game, especially with backs like Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson. Winning at the line of scrimmage is vital.
  2. Offensive Strategy:
    • Establish the Run: A strong running game can control the clock and keep Miami’s potent offense off the field. Use a mix of rushing plays to wear down their defense.
    • Utilize Short Passes: Quick, short passes can effectively counteract the Dolphins' pass rush and put your playmakers in space.
    • Exploit the Defense: Identify mismatches, such as exploiting linebackers in coverage against your tight ends or quicker receivers.
  3. Special Teams:
    • Win the Field Position Battle: Good special teams play can create advantageous field position, making it easier to score.
    • Limit Big Returns: The Dolphins have return threats that can change the momentum. Focus on disciplined punting and kickoff coverage.
  4. Game Management:
    • Control the Clock: Utilize effective time management, especially in the second half, to keep the lead and limit opportunities for Miami.
    • Minimize Turnovers: Protect the football and avoid giving the Dolphins short fields after turnovers.
  5. Adaptability:
    • Adjust Mid-Game: Be prepared to adapt your game plan based on how the game unfolds, including adjustments based on the Dolphins' in-game tactics.
  6. Study and Preparation:
    • Film Study: Analyze game tape to pinpoint trends in Miami’s offensive and defensive play.
    • Player Conditioning: Ensure players are in top condition, as speed will be a critical factor in competing with Miami.
  7. Mental Toughness:
    • Stay Focused: The Dolphins can be explosive. Keeping your team mentally focused and resilient will be crucial, especially during high-pressure situations.
By executing these strategies and focusing on the specific strengths and weaknesses of the Miami Dolphins, you can increase your odds of coming out on top in a game against them.
Thanks AI. No problem. We should score 60 and shut them out

Its so hard to get a franchise qb. in 2017 year of Mac Jones 5 QBs were taken between rounds 1-15. Trevor Lawrence was supposed to be a can't miss prospect and he never looked the part. Can't even beart to talk about the other 4. Now i know its still a small sample size but Maye is playing pretty well for arguably the worst team in football and I can't help to think that if we stick with Larry, Curly and Moe (Wolf/Mayo/AVP) we are going to mess up this guys career.

Ask the AI how are we going to stop Hill - Waddle and now *Jonnu Smith* who would love to stick it to us.
Argh. Thanks for reminding me of my dilemma. Should I grab Jonnu for my fantasy lineup, or stick with Hunter Henry as my backup TE? Jonnu’s going to be motivated but competing for touches with Waddle, Tyreek, Achane et al.

Well be all set.. we have ellis and Dugger to take care of Smith..

This year is all about next year. Like Maye, Mayo has to show progress.... We're just not seeing it from Mayo. Kraft, take note.
Mayo is making mistakes and guilty of inaction.

Its to be expected as either Mayo learns or keeps making errors. I do not believe that Kraft will replace Mayo after only 1 season.

Rumors are heating up for potential job offers for Vrabel and BB.

Both will have their proverbial pick of the litter.

I'm guilty of doing this like many fans. I think we get so caught up in wanting the team to win every game that them being a 32nd ranked roster with the 3rd overall pick, all new coaching staff keeps getting forgotten. There is growth in each game that's what we all have to take from it. Once the roster gets built to compete everything this season the coaching staff and players alike will greatly benefit from.
