The one offbeat hire I’d love to see the Pats make in the offseason.

This is only relevant IF they insist on bringing back Mayo, but I want the to hire Gruden to run the offense.

I don’t care one bit about any of the “suing the NFL” BS.

Dude can coach the hell out of an offense, and can develop a QB.

He also likely knows he’ll never be a HC again.

Gruden would ruin Maye. The last thing we need is a coach who teaches take the 3 yard pass in 3rd and 8.

Not happening for a few reasons:

He hasn't had a good offense since his first stint in Oakland.

His offense was terrible in Tampa which eventually led to his demise. He was awful in LV.

He isn't coming back to be an OC as that's beneath him.

Kraft isn't hiring a guy suing the NFL.

I doubt Gruden would nickname Kraft's schmenza after a sharing an Israeli schvitz.

Not to mention Gruden doesn't strike me as a controllable pawn like the current guy.

Whatever plusses Gruden may or may not still have, they will never outweigh the negative PR that would happen with his being hired.

The cost/benefit analysis by any organization quickly eliminates him from any potential hiring consideration.

It would be very dangerous to put a highly experienced former HC under Mayo. The fanbase will see a perfect replacement already on the team and cries to fire Mayo would get quite loud.

And Gruden.... he's got almost 3 times more experience as an HC than Mayo does as a coach at any level. I agree Gruden should come here - but not as an OC.

Not sure if this is "offbeat," but I'd like to see Bob Kraft empty his treasure chest to hire the consensus under 50-years-old best offensive line coach in the known universe of college and NFL coaches. I do not know who that is, but the Patriots need an offensive line that gives Drake Maye and Rhamondre Stevenson the best chance to do their thing. These kids are great. Help them!!!

Kraft and Mayo should pay Dante Scarnecchia to lead the search for this person and let him have final say. Some analytics nerd has no idea how to hire this type of coach. And, use the Patriots #1 pick on the best OL in the draft.

Kyle Flood - OL Coach at Texas is widely considered the best of the college OL coaches. Get him!

Can’t stand Gruden, don’t want him anywhere near this team.

If you wanna talk offbeat move, mine would be to fire AVP and hire Charlie Weiss Jr. as OC. Weiss has that offense humming at Ole Miss, great offensive schemes.

Nothing else will matter until the Pats fire Ron Wolf's & Al Groh's children. As long as they are the Grocery Shoppers, the team will be undisciplined, unprepared & uncompetitive and especially Untalented..

fify

I give MayoNays one more season to get his **** together. The other two have already proven their irredeemable incompetency.

Probably true, however a lot of players and coaches with really bad things in their backgrounds have still come back later to work well, including for the Pats.

Best thing about Gruden is his intensity. It was that alone, more than anything else, which separated him from Dungy and pushed the Bucs over the top.

So I would welcome it.

*Regarding bad PR, our team has had bad PR for the last half century, and I couldn't care less.

I like it.

And, Jon is a great source to bounce things off for the young, inexperienced Mayo.

They'd have to like and trust each other, obviously.
