2025 NFL Draft: Tackle Edition

Actually, it's Banks Jr. who is regarded as having the makings of a Pro-Bowl caliber OG, but decent to good as an OT. Time will tell.
Brandon Thorn is one of the best at Lineman scouting, can't get link to work for some reason but here his is summary. FYI Josh Simmons is his #1 Tackle, followed by Banks, rated 17th and 21st overall prospect.

Overall, Campbell is a prime candidate to move inside as a pro. He has the makeup, movement skills, play strength, and competitive toughness to make a smooth transition to guard or center and be an impact starter with Pro Bowl potential during his rookie contract.

I have a fleeting belief that Lowe will improve and get stronger and be a very strong LT candidate for patriots for years to come . RT might be the place where we have weakness unless Robinson. Develops into a decent guard and onwenu can man RT on above average basis.
I've come around to this thinking, too.

His opinion is in the minority. He could end up being proven right though. I do know that they need to absolutely nail it at LT (and pretty much every other position.

Like Alt/Fisher last year, I would love to see the Pats double dip same school this year with Will Campbell and Emery Jones from LSU

That's probably true, but there's usually a QB that some Team falls in-love with, or perhaps a player at a Non-QB position that will make a move to acquire such a player. The Patriots will have options regardless.
There are a number of decent QBs in the draft, but I don't think any that have all pro potential, I also do not think that any of set themselves apart from the pack. Right now there are maybe 4 QB's that teams could fall in love with: Ward, Sanders, Eeewwers and Beck. I agree John that the Pats will have options (selection vs trade), I feel like the Raiders with have a huge hard on for Sanders.

I do not think that we will be the #1 pick, but with the Raiders, Browns, Jets, Panthers, Titans, Pittsburgh, and Giants all potentially in the market for a QB I imagine that we will get offers.

Agreed.

Consider
1) There will be trades available if we are in the top 5. There are potentially 4 QB's and Hunter in the top 5 (3 seems more likely)
2) Banks and Campbell are the only top OT's.
3) Hunter will be drafted in the top 3. I don't think that we would pass on him without expecting to get one of the OT's and considerable compensation.

I have watched a lot of Banks and Campbell and not overly impressed with either. I would rather they go BPA than lock in LT or WR. We have so many holes that they are sure to need whatever position gets drafted.

Agree, it's crazy to draft for need at the top of the draft, there are only so many blue chippers and this draft looks like it has less if them than normal. Once you get past the 10 (or whatever #) of blue chippers, ratings are much closer amongst prospects and you can draft for need a bit more, within reason.

This is going to be one of the weakest drat classes in a very long time due to the covid extra year all coming last year stunting development of the players in this class.

You have maybe 3 blue chippers
-Travis Hunter
-Ashton Jeanty
-Tet Mcmillan

I would not trade down if Hunter or McMillan are available UNLESS you get a 2026 1st round pick, where the draft is back to being normal or better.
I would trade any pick past the 2nd round for a pick in 2026 1 round earlier.

Draft Buzz Prospects rated 87 or higher
2024 Draft: 35
2025 Draft: 16
2026 Draft: 37

Another guy that I find does a good job on draft evaluation

Will Campbell (T, LSU)
Short arms (32 inches) mean he’ll almost certainly have to kick inside, he’s struggled in pass-pro this year and I’ve always been left wanting more aggression in his play. I have him as a day two guard.

I have watched pretty much every snap of Campbell’s this season. The idea that he has struggled in pass pro this year is flat out insanely wrong. Regarding his arm length I don’t know where this guys number comes from, since he doesn’t say and I haven’t seen any number online. Caveat emptor on this one.

To reiterate from my previous post on this thread, assuming the Pats are drafting in the top 3, I’d prefer to see them draft a sure fire elite player - if there is one there - than reach for Campbell or any other prospect that doesn’t have a damn good chance at being elite.

I think a lot of folks are gonna be be mildly disappointed with this years returns on any trade downs.

I agree, the QB class sucks, and there isn’t going to be a clear #1. That said there are great options available for them if they stay put in the top 5. Campbell and Banks at LT, Hunter and MacMillan at WR, and Will Johnson at corner. I doubt they will go corner, but both Hunter and Johnson will be lockdown players, if Hunter plays corner over receiver. To me it’s going to come down to one of the tackles or MacMillan.

In that case it would be Hunter or MacMillan.

To add to this, from a Phil Perry mail mag:

Relative_Record4952: With the current state of the squad and assuming we have the #1/2 pick in next year's draft. Is there a current player worth keeping the spot for (e.g Travis hunter) or do you see more value and trading the spot to a franchise in need or a QB for additional picks?

The problem is there might not be a franchise QB at the top of the draft. Bad year to be bad. Still have to consider a trade down if there's one there for them.”

Yuck!

This is one of the big reasons they had to stay put and take either Daniels or May, they couldn’t wait for the 26’ draft and hope a QB would be there for them. I wouldn’t want any of the QB’s in this draft to be my franchise WB.

I'd hope so and yes I think so. They have the most cash to spend. I don't care if they overpay they should spend it on the best possible WR, LT, & RT that will agree to come here. Not to mention a dozen other depth pieces.

I don’t mind paying for a really good player, but overpaying jags is a sure fire way to ruin your franchise. Then you don’t have the money to pay players who are actually worth the money. This is why Wolf was absolutely right to stay out of the 24’ free agent market, it sucked.

I just don't know if Wolf/Groh Jr. are up to the task of evaluating talent in any round. Maye was a "No Brainer".
This is the biggest concern I have going into the offseason. The last draft is a bust after Maye, and if they are going to compete in 2025 they need to have a good draft and free agency. I have zero confidence in Wolf.

Unfortunately, 25 isn’t looking much better. Teams are getting a lot better at locking up their superstars before they hit free agency. Especially elite LT’s like Tristan Wirfs.

I agree, elite prospect (AKA Travis Hunter) or best WR/LT available. Just not sure Cambell will be in the mix as a LT.

Last year I had 2 can't miss prospects: Nabors and Maye
2025 there is Travis Hunter so far
Some years there are none, you take 1 regardless of need if you have the chance.

I also agree we need to wait until he is measured, I found 6 websites pretty quickly that say he has small arms and several thinking they are under 33". If he comes under 33" he's not playing tackle in the NFL based on history, he will 100% move to guard.
He has the making of an all-pro guard.
It is like Bryce Young, the size alone was enough to make his success rate in the NFL very minimal, Arms smaller than 33 and same with Campbell at Tackle.

Excerpt from The Athletic this summer:
Campbell is compactly built with NFL-desired height and weight. But he doesn’t possess ideal arm length, which was especially noticeable against the better opponents on the 2023 schedule. Turner’s long-arm moves gave him trouble at times; Campbell lost the length battle against Missouri’s Darius Robinson and was overwhelmed if Robinson’s timing was perfect.

I know very little about Hunter, haven't seen him play, but I'm nervous about the Deion vibe and a diva that will want to call his own shots.

this is an interesting thread. One thing I haven't heard how important it is to evaluate the level of competition the player competed against. A lot of quality players will look great when they are competing against some DE from NW bum**** state tech vs a going against someone who is likely to be drafted this April. I would be a LOT more likely to go with a LT who might not have the ideal "measurements", but whom I've seen dominate against quality competition.

The depth of this draft HAS absolutely been impacted by the NIL money. A lot of draftable underclassmen who would otherwise provide quality depth to the draft have to option to stay in school and STILL make 6 figure incomes and enjoy college life and improve their potential draft status. That being said AFTER the season is over some of these QB prospects who might not be considered top 10 picks will UNDOUBTABLY see their stock rise in the run up to the April draft.

I see us with a top 5 pick this year and a DESPERATE need for LT help. In my opinion, trading down into the top 10 would be our best option ESPECIALLY if we can get a first next year and at least a high second this year as well. From somewhere in the top 10 we should be able to draft the first- or second-best LT or DL prospect available. We need to come out of this draft with a top OL pick AND sign a top 3 OT FA in order to immediately stabilize the OL. (I kind of like our OG prospects.
