Somehow, every WR drafted is worst than the last.

I think it's clear that I didn't like Polk as a WR long before the Patriots drafted him, and I especially hate where they picked him.

But, only one of those catch attempts was a drop yesterday.

He was really clobbered. No WR would be expected to hang onto 2 of the 3.

This is very different than last week when he let the team down 3 times (2 with drops, 1 not fighting for the ball on a long pass).

Speaking of WRs, Maye would look even better at this point if he had one guy who could snag big catches downfield. Boutte has done it twice. But there have been a lot of non-catches downfield that would've been caught by a #1 receiver.

You could see Brian Thomas on the other side, Gonzalez had tight coverage, but it was a fantastic catch. Maybe Boutte is like that, I don't know, but that was a credit to the QB and the WR,

Are you talking about the long bomb? He ran by Gonzo and had him beat. It was through his athletic ability that he was able to catch up to him and make the tackle.

Gonzo is there covering the outside as his primary job. He then tracks the CB over the middle. That's every CB in the NFL. Sauce Gardner gave up big plays on the same route last night. But the key is that Gonzo was there at the end tight and even got a hand in to knock it out.

Gonzo got beat because of a pinpoint throw from Lawrence and great ball skills from Thomas.

I would say there is NO CB in the NFL that is able to break up a play like that, not unless he has safety help over the middle that reroutes a guy.

Polk will become a good receiver. I think people should get off his case.

The biggest problem on offense yesterday was Pop being sick and only appearing briefly in the 1st half. With him at regular strength I think we may have been able to match Jacksonville score for score. Without him and down a WR throughout the game, we didn't have the weapons. Maye for much of the game was incredible given that and the OL instability.

As yesterday showed, priority #1 should have been shoring up the defense. When you have no defense, it's the worst thing in football. The only thing worse than not being able to stop the running game is not stopping the passing game. Both those things are worse than a bad offense.

As for Gonzalez, do you guys watch football? Every guy gets burned. Sauce Gardner was burned last night. Sometimes you tip your cap on a perfect throw and great catch that seems indefensible. In fact, when a WR crosses like that, the outside CB has ground to make up. Gonzalez did that.

He reminds me of Gilmore, who was tossed over in Buffalo because he too was burned occasionally, and Buffalo did a lot of losing, and they didn't prioritize keeping him. He comes to New England and becomes DPOY.
Gonzalez is learning on the fly and will get burned occasionally. He was the best player available at a position of need. Going all in on one side of the ball means that the team will always be imbalanced and lack depth. Taking a page from 2001, Wolf needs to focus on building a deep roster vs solely reaching for individual positions. Draft a good tackle and good players based on ability, fill in the rest of the roster with rank and file players in FA.

I'm still not giving up on Tyquan until I see him play with Maye.

Wolf should be fired in the offseason for the OL and Polk pick. Hire an external GM and let him pick his HC (instead of foisting Thunder's ass kissing buddy on the GM).

I would add that a team that claims to be a run first only getting 20 yards on the ground (not counting Mayes 18 yards) has something to do with it.

Here I was complaining on draft day about the Polk pick because of his epically slow 40 time. Even dubbed him "Slo Polk", little did I know that his lack of speed was negligible compared to his hands of stone!

Can't run right now. Since Ben Brown became the center our pass protection has improved but run blocking has gotten far worse.

The other 4 all sucked too, even Jordan I thought had his worst game as a Pat.
