Glad I'm not doing offense and defense tape review, man the defense stinks right now.
Start with Offensive Line and then once all-22 is out will add QB and Receivers.

Sadly, Sidy Sow was the worst player on the line. He did seem to be trying to use the teachings of the new line coach with the hand punch, which he was not doing consistently before, but he needs work on that technique. He was beat different ways, on a stunt, on a quick move to his inside, on a bull rush, and on a blitz. Got them all. I don't know what's going on with him but can see why he was not starting.

Jordan had his worst game, mainly had run blocking issues. Was fine in the pass protection but was responsible for 3 missing blocks on runs

Jacobs-Had a solid game, can hold his win against weaker pass rushers. It's the top tier guys I would think he would struggle but he played well. He had a 2nd play I did not count he got beat but Jordan helped him, probably part of the protection plan so gave him a pass on the aggressive missed block

Robinson-Better in this game, was beat on a blitz again, also pushed back on another play but held up long enough for Maye to escape for a first down. Then got hurt, like all their lineman have to for some reason. Showed better than any previous game, too bad he couldn't stay healthy and keep working.

Brown-Solid game again, got beat but Maye saved him getting away and getting ball out, I probably have 5-6 plays where Maye saved someone by moving or getting ball out, QB makes a huge difference.

Onwenu-Also beat but Maye saved him, overall was a good game for him, might be his best to date.

Running backs did not have much opportunity, Hasty made 1 terrible cut when the hole he was going to was open, he cut back to the pursuit. Rham looked less than 100% but honestly the running backs did not have much to work with.

They went from a good running team to terrible, Maye is pretty much carrying the offense i Henry and Pop(when not sick).

Got the Jets coming up who are going to test this line with blitzes and pressures more than anyone. If Sow plays as bad and Jacobs can't hold up Maye will need a Superman Cape to score. Hope he doesn't try hero ball, knowing he has no defense and has to make the plays himself.

Overall, promising pass blocking but definitely helped by Maye. Run blocking was OK by most of the line on every play but 1 when 3 guys were beat in the middle. However, there was always 1 guy free due to play design or 1 guy missing a block. Just didn't have everyone playing well on most running plays.

Can't wait for ALL-22 to break down Maye.

@KCSVEN, my apologies but I have forgotten what your OL tabulations mean. I am assuming that the individual player numbers are the number of plays they were responsible for the overall OL result being neither good nor OK, is that correct?

Very disappointed in Sow this year, I thought a lot more of him after last year than I do now. I’ve been of the opinion that Strange’s future here if any is at center. Now I’m hoping to see him tried back at LG since I’ve seen better play there from him in his first two seasons than anyone they’ve had at LG.

This team is such a typical bottom feeding NFL team now. They now struggle with the few things you thought you could count on, such as stopping the run, covering kicks, they have an unusual rash of injuries, make mental mistakes by the bushel every week, and aside from #10 these past 2 games they have had nobody break out and play a lot better than expected. I try to be optimistic with the Pats but don’t see a lot other than Maye to give me hope, even Gonzo and White haven’t really distinguished themselves.

Suck fest.

Yes, there is some subjectiveness, if a guy is easily beat but ball is out quick but not a screen or swing pass he gets a mark but if ball takes awhile and finally lets in pressure it might not be a negative mark. If one play has 2 guys fail then it might be 1 for each, 1 for one and a half for another or might be a half each depending on the timing and the details. I might also give a half if I'm unclear if the pressure was because the QB had to hold to throw or they were beat too quick.

Running plays are easier. Pretty obvious on most running plays.

OK for the line is mainly screens and swing passes but might also be a play where they eventually got pressure, but Maye had just barely enough time to get it out.

Someone is doing good work with the OL because they were better today in pass pro. One of the few bright spots. Better hand use, leg movement, spacing, communication (mostly).
agree, especially considering the number of different formations and constantly playing second&third string players they are holding up well.

I worry about the WR development

I will reserve judgment until they face that Jet's D that can bring pressure from all sides. They have some small quick DE's in McDonald IV plus Ha Reddick who's back and Big Q Williams in the middle. Plenty RPO's should be on the menu next week for Maye.

The Patriots had 20 yards rushing all day for less than 2 yards per attempt, excluding Maye's rushes. There is no great work being done with the offensive line. A one sided offense is useless.

Just watched every snap for the last 2 games for Ben Brown. Guys had 2 bicep injuries but pretty impressive college career.
He's been at least equal to Andrews if not better. If he continues, he's a solid replacement for Andrews. Very consistent, keeps a good base, occasionally gets bull rushed with success but recovers well, gets to second level on run plays, stays in his lane, plays thru the whistle. Hope he continues to impress, with so many holes it'd be nice to fill this one for 2025 and beyond.

Also, PFF listed Pressures from Jags game:

Sow: 5
Jacobs: 4
Jordan: 3
Brown: 2
Robinson: 1
Onwenu: 1
-These are overstated, pressures is subjective, PFF does not take into account the play call and expectation of the lineman.
-They also show on PFF zero batted passes, Maye had 1, and they list zero drops. Had 1 for sure, maybe 3 I would consider.

FYI, According to PFF Brissett has outplayed Maye this year LOL. They rate Brissett RUSHING a 65.0 and Maye a 62.3. Brissett Passing 56.0, Maye 56.7. Crazy bad analysis. Or maybe we should go back to Jacoby? HAHA

They show only 1 drop in the 2 games?

Lots of Fodder for PFF is crap gang! You need to pick the right things with PFF and it can add to your analysis, but nothing beats good tape review.

Fwiw, I said good work and in pass pro.

Good idea, but I think you are going to be disappointed.

I saw one for Brown and I rewatched every pass play.

Check out the window for this throw by Maye, and also the protection that allowed him to stay in there and step up. First, he looks like an outfielder throwing a pea on a line to get the runner out trying to stretch a single into a double. But second, the Jags dropped a lot of guys into zone, and he exploited them. This bodes well for the future -- he has an arm that can exploit zone coverage.

I would add, what is Sow doing in this play laying off a guy he has locked down in order to allow him to get directly in Maye's face? That kind of crazy decision could have cost us 7, err, 6 points.

That's our QB.

If Trey Smith hits FA, we need to blank check.

That PFF analysis. Wow. That is laughable and a complete insult to common sense haha.

Holy cow thats incredibly off the mark. PFF sure is sounding more and more like a useless group. Nobody would think Brissett is better than Maye. It's not even close.
