My initial reaction with the Bill firing speculation was that he's the GOAT and no one is immune from being set back by missing on a QB, which is a hard position to evaluate. We were in position to get a better prospect and Bill's resume still warrants a 2nd chance at rebuilding, this time doing it fully vs. the half-rebuild they did with Mac.You know I'm a Bill guy. The pick was a collosal bust. But at the time it was the correct move. I just wish they gave him one more shot with another rookie QB.
But the more I really thought about it and the personnel/coaching decisions he made around Mac were just malpractice. It's one thing to make decisions and they fail, it's another to do things that are blatantly incompetent. I love what Bill did here as a coach AND as a GM over the balance of 24 years, but it was a trainwreck the last few. It was so inept that I think it made sense to move on and let someone else try with the new QB. The way BB handled Mac didn't point to someone who can foster the growth of a young QB.
Not really a fan of what they replaced Bill with though, so that's a whole separate issue...
