Mayo seemingly blaming Bill for the state of the roster

Tbh, I thought it was a measured response akin to I am not going to answer that and be your bait.

You can interpret how you want to.

1. Too many injuries , what do you expect
2. Bill screwed it
3. Wolf screwed it
4. Players not taking in coaching
5. Coaches not coaching properly
6. Conditioning not working
7. Talent level low
8. Cheap org, Kraft to blame
9. Taxachussets, nobody wants to come here.

Mayo is a straight shooter. He at least is not lying. I think this is a good evasive response.

Ian needs to change the name of this place from Patsfans.com to Billfans.com. They hate their team. Root against them just to satisfy their Bill obsession. Create crap threads like this to regurgitate their hate for the 1,000th time. This place has become so very sad.

There was a way to answer it, by not answering like Bill and focusing on the current team. Mayo fell into the media’s trap and has been finger pointing since day 1.
Whenever I've said that Mayo has done nothing to warrant any HC position let alone replace BB (I said that when he was first hired), I've gotten ridiculed. Time will prove me correct.

Or time may prove you are mistaken.
What we should be able to agree on is not enough time has passed to draw a conclusion either way. Mayo may not be what everyone wanted but he is the coach we've all got. Under the circumstances I hope the majority opinion is greatly mistaken and he turns out wildly successful, if for no other reason than he's coaching 'our' team.

I agree, the choices are blame himself and the coaching, blame BB, blame Wolf or blame the players not executing. There is no benefit casting doubt on any of these parties, even if they all have a hand in the current situation. Mayo needs to recognize these dangerous questions and stop creating media driven controversy.
Just say that we have the talent here to win.

Simply state that the Pats are a work in progress and that nobody is pleased with 1 win.

Indeed. Take a lesson from Bill and say nothing, or just say we need to get better and move on.

As we say on the interwebs, don't feed the trolls.

Meh. WTH does anyone expect Mayo to answer to that? He hardly threw anyone under the bus. The guy got asked the equivalent of 'When did you stop beating your wife?' It's an ahole question designed to stir crap up and he sidestepped by putting it back on questioner. I'd say he handled it as well as could be expected.

Too many folks here just want to piss all over the guy. How about we at least give him a first class trial then follow it with a proper hanging?

Fans are frustrated and a good firing/hanging will take their minds off that frustration, at least for a short period of time till they line up the next victim.

They aren't addressing the obvious questions: who takes over, and why do you think they'll do any better?

If they say 'anyone', that means they don't know.

It's amazing that anyone would argue it, but I've taken plenty of resistance as well. History is on our side of being correct as almost all Bill's disciples have crashed and burned quickly. It's quite bizarre posters and even the media haven't acknowledged that.

Better QB play = winning.

Its as simple as that.

Say what you want about BB as a GM but he left them with a ton of cap space which they did **** all with.

I've come to find Mayo petulant and unaccountable to himself.
According to spotrac they have $35 million cap space this year and $136 million cap space in 2025..
Cap space should not be an issue to make some free agent splashes for this team. Devin White for example would be an outstanding addition... but read where he might go to Detroit??

I actually hope that I'm proven wrong and will gladly admit it. It's more important to me that the team improves and becomes a SB Winner again, then for me to be right.

I am sure Mayo will backtrack on this in another 48 hours but it is pretty easy to read between the lines on this one. While agree he is mostly right I don't love the finger pointing and excuse making. Him and Wolf had the opportunity this offseason to fix the offensive line and they gambled on a guy who quit the team and some rookies.

By not saying he went there......he went there.

"NFL Rosters year to year are ebbs and flows." would have been an appropriate response.

BB or Wolf ....not cool.

With the Bentley injury I could definitely see White as a bandaid. When he signed with Philly he claimed to have taken less there because he liked the team's outlook. That would seem to be against his coming here and very much in Detroit's favor

He may or maynot be true but as the HC of the team why call your roster out ? How will your players feel especially you really havent bought in a ton of new players to fill in the holes but resigned the same guys ? Just fix it privately in the offseason and save this comment for future yrs when you have some time to reflect.

First off…it’s a sh!t question that’s serves no purpose other than to put Mayo in a catch 22. I’m sure this question was asked post game after a bad loss so he gave about as a good a response as to be expected in that frustrating situation.

And tbh, if he’s subtlety implying that BB is mostly responsible for the state of the roster; well, he’s not wrong. Bill decimated this roster and coaching staff the last 4 years. No one can logically deny that.

Has the current regime handled everything perfectly since the off season; obviously not, but they need to be given at least a full season/off season before sending them to the gallows.

Exactly what I meant. Whether or not he was who we wanted in the 1st place, he's who we've got. I am struck by the number of people who seem to be actively rooting against him rather than hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Tbf , nobody else wanted to join the patriots. That's how low we have stunk up.

Free agents, coaches everyone is running away from us. Firstly we need to change the perception before we start to make the upward climb.

We are no longer the Brady patriots. It's going to take a while to create the Maye- Mayo patriot identity.

If we show progress , I think that should do for now . Last game was a huge step forward. With some injury luck and return of players we might become even better.

Eh. That's not really a good thing to have that much cap room. It means you have no talent.

Mayo does need to take accountability and not blame the players every week after we lose.
