What do you expect from Maye on Sunday?

A pummelling, confusion, taking too long to release, frequent penetration into the backfield, seeing ghosts, not trusting instincts, blame on scheme and coaching staff for not harnessing his potential, blame on TEs and receivers not being in right place, blame on OL for not protecting him enough, blame on RB for not helping protect, blame on staff for not devising scheme to help him............. etc etc etc.

You know. The usual in the NFL for last 2 decades after a top 3 QB pick goes into a game with insanely high expectations, and 90% don't live up to the billing and don't become a franchise QB. Since the 90% number is correct, it's only fair to assume that's what we'll get as well although I of course hope that we get luck and get the 10% chance of finding our franchise QB.
Some #3 overall picks in the draft? Barry Sanders, Matt Ryan, Larry Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson, Steve McNair, Joe Thomas, ...

Yeah. And the 199th pick in the draft must suck because 198 guys were picked before him. Tom Brady says hi.

Me too. I expect over a hundred yards running. All of them for his life.
Hopefully at least 2/3ds in the right direction?

(the OL remains that bad - again not on "every play", but every play of consequence and need)

I expect to see him struggle badly in his first start behind our horrible OL. Hopefully they go back to quick read screens so he can get the ball out fast….but I expect him to get hit/rushed/sacked a lot still. Hopefully NO INJURIES…..and hopefully if he does not have the best outing because of the terrible OL …..the fan base doesn’t turn on him and set progress backwards! Obviously I hope I am wrong about everything and he lights it up and becomes the next Legend here!!!!!! GO MAYE, GO PATS!!!!

Oh ok so brisset must be starting again. d%#*!@t!!

Great call. Brissett was responsible for getting the living **** beat out of him.

I hope you are “ entertained” today. It relieves you of having to care whether they win or not.

It's not so much what I expect, as it is what I hope. What I hope: 1. He doesn't get inured. 2. He doesn't get his confidence shattered (which I doubt will happen as he's wired differently than Jones was/is). 3. Any bad habits that he develops are minimal and will be corrected (by himself as he's both aware of them and has the drive to improve). 4. He shows that despite an extreme lack of talent on the offense in-general and especially the OL, he shows a great deal of tangible skills that proves that with a seriously improved OL and additional talent on the offense next season, he can be "The Guy".
Agreed and yes Mac definitely had a fragile psyche to begin with …..but the way that the fan based turned on him rabidly was unfortunate…..and hopefully “they” dont make the same mistake again!!!! Have to give the kid time..and expect him to struggle because of our horrid OL…if we struggle to run…and he has no time to throw…and AVP plays are predictable….No one will succeed here…especially a rookie!!! Everyone needs to give him lots of time and support. We are still in a rebuild phase..

Nope. It's about growing the 3rd overall pick. Not growing the egos of some posters.

Some good, some bad. Close-ish game. Come away feeling excited with Maye with the moral victory.

Growing the pick my ass, this is the opposite of developing a QB, this is desperation move to make crybaby fans who aren’t being “ entertained” happy. This is what the Colts did to Andrew Luck and they ruined his career.

One thing is certain, the people screaming loudest to play him will also be the first to scream that he was a terrible pick if he struggles. Most of those crying to play him now didn’t want them to pick him, and they will start shouting about how much he sucks if he doesn’t save them.

While I get your over point. Luck even admitted that he could've done a better job manging hits. He said he was a bit reckless at times during his playing career. Brady for example he didn't have all pro OL all the time but he made thier jobs better. Getting rid of it quickly, dumping off to the back.. Brissett held on to the ball far to long.. having a bad OL, and bad QB play is a Recipe for disater for any offense. So the decision wa made to start maye. My belief is that if the organization didn't feel he was ready he wouldn't be starting. No matter what fans felt about Brissett.

They put Luck out there behind garbage OL’s and it destroyed his career. The Patriots are making the exact same mistake and it’s ignorant.

What does all the blame really have to do with the topic? The is a media and fan game, not on the team.

I don't see how Andrew luck is some tail of caution. He played 16 games each of his first 3 seasons before missing any time. He played some really good football. Just a shame he blew out his shoulder in year 6 but I don't see how playing too soon was at all responsible?

Passing/rushing Yards, TD passes, int, sacks

I think he’ll be good for 180 yards passing, 30 rush, 1 TD, 1 int and 3 sacks. The stats won’t look like much of an improvement but I predict the eye test will.
Maye will add some energy/juice to the fans and team I'd say. If the coaches are smart, they will simplify things for him and get the ball out quick and run the rock. They will roll Mays out and take a few shots downfield to back the D from 8-9 up tight, but to-date, that hasn't worked. HOU will likely trick and or pressure Maye into 2 picks. HOU has given up 120 yds/game on the ground and has better stats vs pass. HOU is light in the pants in the front 7. The pats will go for run/pass balance as thats always a goal no matter the personel. IF the ground game is working, they'll run all day if they can to make throws easier for Maye. Problem is and has been since week 2, is the opponent is putting 8 in the box and then backing some off and blitzing others and the o-line doesn't handle it at a high enough rate, so that will continue till they block it and hit a few big plays. But that aint happening today. Still to early and unsettled up front. Maybe is the line sticks together (no more injuries) they will be semi functional in Nov. .

Couldn’t agree more. Maye is being set up for a massive failure in his first start.

I expect him to be really good—if he had a strong supporting cast around him on offense.

So a bigger, stronger, more athletic Zappy is what we’ll get.

A few good strong throws but lots of frustration. But he will scramble out of the pocket for good yardage.

Just what Joe Milton could give us.

What the team really needs is a stout athletic LT. Lowe is a great guy. Works hard. Keeps his teeth together. Has very good length.

But the ponderous feet are a problem.
