Passing/rushing Yards, TD passes, int, sacks

I think he’ll be good for 180 yards passing, 30 rush, 1 TD, 1 int and 3 sacks. The stats won’t look like much of an improvement but I predict the eye test will.

Jittery first series, then settle in and dish the ball in under 3 sec. Receivers can finally show what they can contribute.

I agree that the first couple of series might be shaky and Drake Maye needs to get hit a couple of times to settle into what he does on the field. This kid is mobile, feels pressure, and can throw the ball off-platform downfield. Once Maye starts playing football, look out. This kid is the most talented QB we've seen since TFB jilted us for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He is a better passer that any of the guys who have started a game for New England since TB12 threw that pick six to end his NEP career. Maye is a far superior passer than Cam Newton, Brian Hoyer, Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe, and Jacoby Brissette.

Maye comes to Foxboro from a fairly good - never elite - UNC program that cannot mask QB deficiencies the way Alabama could with Mac Jones. Carolina football is mucking around this year since Drake opted out for the NFL Draft but would be a contender for the 12 playoff playoff spots if he'd decided to stick around for his senior year. He's that good, kids.

The key this week is let him play football the way he knows how and take advantage of all that Pop Douglas, Hunter Henry, Kendrick Bourne, Austin Hooper, Antonio Gibson, JaLynn Polk, etc. bring to the table. Alex Van Pelt should give Maye the chance to spread out the defense and make the Texans deal with all that Drake Maye can do in space. Look, he's got good receivers itching for a chance to do their thing. I'm more concerned about the coaching staff clutching their pearls than Drake effing Maye (DFM)! - #GDTBATH

A pummelling, confusion, taking too long to release, frequent penetration into the backfield, seeing ghosts, not trusting instincts, blame on scheme and coaching staff for not harnessing his potential, blame on TEs and receivers not being in right place, blame on OL for not protecting him enough, blame on RB for not helping protect, blame on staff for not devising scheme to help him............. etc etc etc.

You know. The usual in the NFL for last 2 decades after a top 3 QB pick goes into a game with insanely high expectations, and 90% don't live up to the billing and don't become a franchise QB. Since the 90% number is correct, it's only fair to assume that's what we'll get as well although I of course hope that we get luck and get the 10% chance of finding our franchise QB.

I almost don't care that much about rushing Yards, TD passes, int, & sacks.

I just want to see some passing. More than 200 yards please.
Even the threat of a legit passing game would be nice.

Will definitely struggle. Any rookie QB would with this OL aganst a SB contending team.

I think it's most important that he looks better towards the end of the season. Improvement, even if small, is key. If he gets injured...the entire organization will get ripped apart locally.

I think it would be a mistake to base any sort of even slightly firm evaluation of Maye on his performance in his first NFL game behind a dysfunctional o-line with receivers who to this point at least can't get open (I know it's possible to pore over the all-22 and find a few WR's "open," but by then the QB is either running for his life or already under a heap of d-linemen., so I don't think such "discoveries" mean much at all.)

I actually think Maye will do fairly well: one TD throw, some run yards, probably a bungled snap put on the ground, 60% completion - but, again, I don't expect much on which to base any sort of assessment. The situation is just too weird at this point.

I am interested in seeing if VanPelt will do anything to help the situation. I think we are very nearly in a position to form a judgment on him. To this point, he blows. I'm ready to demote or dismiss him, unless he shows something this week. Why wait? The hiring process which yielded this new team "leadership" was a joke.

Talent wise, the Patriots haven't drafted a QB like this since....Bledsoe? Not saying Maye will be anywhere as good as Brady. I'm just referring to natural talent like arm strength and velocity.

I’m not deluding myself. He is going to have a difficult time. Hopefully we don’t see a bunch of turnovers is my hope.

They know the Texans might bring massive pressure like they did to Williams. Thing is, the Pats can prepare for that, their blitzes where the pressures will come from since it's all out on tape. Now blocking it up is another thing but shouldn't be a surprise.

I'm hoping he doesn't get hurt.

That's it. That's my lone expectation.

His footwork will tell. That’s where he needed to improve. He no doubt has. But when the game is on the line, will he revert back to sloppiness?

I'm not sure, but I hope he has enough success give me hope, but I also hope that the offense isn't so good that it mitigates my irrational growing hatred towards AVP.
