He didn’t regress. He was what he was. By playing he worked through hus issues. The jets got impatient because they wanted to draft Zach Wilson. He also regressed to the point that he was a back up for several years and was on four teams in three years.
The #1 priority is finding out whether he is any good or not. Being a hyped 1st round QB means nothing, as most 1st round QB's bust. The team urgently has to evaluate him vs NFL game competition well in advance of next year's draft.
And at least now the games are worth watching. My guess is Kraft intervened to rescue ticket receipts
I expect him to struggle. That’s why I want him playing. He needs to work through that now to be a better QB next year when we can compete if ownership and the front office get their heads out of their asses.I think the idea that if Drake doesn’t look good, he could be pulled, is pretty wild. They are already playing the “bad” option, the floor is already set. I think it’s insanely unlikely that Drake ever approaches a level of performance so bad that anyone would want to go back to what Brissett was giving them. He will make mistakes but he will at least make a “wow” throw or run every so often.

He went to a terrible Carolina team, and won 4 of his last 6 starts.
Carolina had to have Bryce Young so he was a backup for a year. Not several years.
Players need to be exposed to their weaknesses to correct them, Darnold is a good example.
He has started at LT. He took some snaps at C in a vanity game called the Senior Bowl.I don't think so, he played guard at the Senior Bowl.
Maybe he practiced everywhere, but his arms aren't super long. I don't see him at tackle.
This guy gets it:
I just want him to get experience. Whatever he has to deal with so be it.What's the expectation by people:
Texans are 3rd in Defensive DVOA
Texans are #1 in pressure rate
Caleb Williams was sacked 7 times and picked twice in is 2nd start vs them
So if Maye is sacked 6 times and has 1 pick we good?
Tough spot, but Maye will get thru it and be better for it.
Has there been news on strange that I missed? Is he expected to return soon?He has started at LT. He took some snaps at C in a vanity game called the Senior Bowl.
- Started all 11 games (9 at left guard and two at left tackle) as a senior in 2021. Led an offensive line that paved the way for 205.5 rushing yards per game, the highest average since 2016 (206.3).
They will definitely call a conservative gameplan for this week. Run heavy, quick passes, make 1 or 2 reads and then hit your check down, throw it away or scramble then slide early. If they are getting a lot of success in the run game then maybe they can try a couple play action deep shots, if nothing else then to keep the defense honest. But all things being equal I think it will be a lot of Rhamondre and Gibson this week so he doesn’t have to do too much.I’m excited for this but I really hope Maye gets protected by the play calling. Texas has the highest pressure rate in the league, they better run a ton of screens, draws, rollouts and max protects against the Texans or he will get sacked 7 times just like Caleb Williams did against Houston. I want to Maye get into the pocket and immediately let the ball go. If he tries to work to his third or fourth read he’s surely getting sacked.
It seems crazy with how he performed last year but having Lowe at left tackle makes a huge difference in terms of protection. I think Lowe being healthy enough to play was a huge factor in the team feeling comfortable enough to start.
No…someone suggested he could play Center whenever he comes back.Has there been news on strange that I missed? Is he expected to return soon?
I’m not rewriting history at all. The team around him got worse, the defense stunk, giving up 457 points. Of course his stats were going to be a little worse.LOL! Stop rewriting history. Darnold in his last year with the Jets had a 59.6% completion percentage, sacked 35 times, threw for 2,208 yards, 9 TDs, and 11 INTs in 12 games. That was year three with the team. The year before he completed 61.9% of his passes for 3,024 yards, 19 TDs, and 13 INTs the year before in 13 games. He clearly regressed from year two to year three.
What I would like to see are play calls that put pressure on the defense. Throw on early downs and throw the ball down the field. Run route combos that cause him to read the defense and anticipate the routes. They will definitely call a conservative gameplan for this week. You keep saying this, but you don't have Guaranteed Pre-Vision.I'd rather watch Maye, but if he's good, I'd rather watch him for the next 10 years instead of 4 games and season-ending and perhaps career altering injury. My primary concern with playing Maye now is injury, and the secondary concern is developmental impact.
