I listened to that interview and interpreted it to be a little less damning to Brissett... But rather as a reassurance that they are open to starting Maye, but not imminently.
Yes same here. I believe that Brissett is highly respected.. I kept hearing mayo say it's not good enough on the offense.. particularly the QB position.. it would just not suprise me to see a change made especially with the game over seas next week. RK is going to want a much better product.

that was not speculation. we all knew it was going to happen from day 1.
Right but then it changed to "competition " so that made us think... if it was really set in stone mayo would have not had to hold a 2 min press conference to announce it.

With yesterday's results I would be semi shocked if Maye doesn't play. The owners, especially Bob, love the international games and want to look good on the world's stage. They'll play Maye to get him ready for London and to spark some semblance of interest.
I like this line of thought…

Says the guy with a ticket in row 8 Wembley.

Does anyone think I can get a NE Maye jersey at a Jags home game?

@Pape @Toofy made a great point. What if the NFL suspects us as intentionally tanking. Didn't think of that. Great point .. something to think about....

IDK, there was a lot of talk about the Pats sitting Maye for up to the entire year before even training camp. People questioned whether the Pats would be disciplined enough to stick with the plan or would they cave and start him when things got bad. So there is plenty of evidence that the Pats aren't starting Maye for developmental reasons and not to tank. Besides, the Pats already have their QB. They aren't tanking for anyone at the top of the draft.

who thought? Not me.

There has been one thing that's been crystal all year - its been Mayo saying we will start Maye when we think he is ready.

at no point was it ever a competition. Brissett took all the starter snaps in practice during camp, during preseason. There was never a doubt.

On my last post. I do hope if they are starting Maye on Sunday, they are not abandoning their plans to develop Maye prematurely just to get him in to start and stop the bleeding.

If they think he is ready, I am all in for him to start. If not, I am totally fine with the disaster that is Jacoby Brissett starting.

I'd say there has to be hard evidence of that ala the Flores texts but with Goodell all bets are off...

Right. But as mentioned mayo defuse things and preached competition.. roster boss wolf likely spoke to him and said hey remember the plan.

roster boss wolf .
If this is true, not entirely convinced it is, but if this is true and wolf has sway over who starts/who sits on the 22 - and I do not care if its one position or all 22 of them - its the reason why Mayo should not be our coach, and never should have been hired.

I dont want to see Maye get throttled behind this woeful line.
I was of this opinion to start the year, but I don't want to go to the full extreme of bubble wrapping him the entire season just because the OL sucks. He has to play some games. At least a college season's worth of games (10-12) to get some valuable experience. Can't hide him forever

Intentionally tanking by not throwing our raw #3 pick behind a joke of an OL to get slaughtered? Seriously? We don't have Aaron Rodgers on the bench. You can't be serious.

It brings up the question of was this something mayo agreed too in order to be HC. I want to think differently but however the organizational structure tells me otherwise. A HC no matter what should be in charge of roster decisions in any organization.

I totally believe they are sitting Maye because Wolfe was in Green Bay and believes that's best because Green Bay did it that way, it has nothing to do with Maye's abilities or developmental reasons.
I think Mayo has wanted to start Maye the day the season started but was outvoted.
I think AVP knows the offense overall stinks and does not want to be blamed if Maye started and was terrible or running for his life.
Mayo was outvoted 2-1.

I also believe they are not blatantly tanking, just a little bit of incompetence.
Though if you refuse to play the best players short term because you "think" it is best long term, is that not short-term tanking?

Who is saying "forever"? Hide him until he's ready developmentally and the OL is not the worst I've ever seen the Patriots field. What kind of valuable experience is he going to get when there's pass rushers in the backfield constantly and he doesn't have time to go through his progressions? He'll get a lot of experience being on his back, until one of those big hits knocks him out for the season.

I don't think this organization will intentionally tank, especially for what? A left tackle in the top 5?

I think they are just bad.

I dont want his confidence to take a hit when hes got to operate behind a below average OL group. Im fine with him operating behind the scenes while they provide him with more talent.

I think the fans thinking we insert Maye and go on a winning streak are fooling themselves.

I believe Mayo has the ace in his sleeve that if he wanted too he could go to RK to over rule wolf.. but he won't go against the plan... I've often felt that Mayo's leash is a lot longer than wolf or AVP.

Why do you people do this? Like, "I didn't say forever!" Well I didn't say you said forever. It's just hyperbole. Move past it.

He'll get the valuable experience of being active in real meaningful football snaps for the first time in, what, 10 months? He has to get a feel for the speed of the game sooner or later. I don't want him going into next year as essentially a rookie all over again.
