Greg Bedard skewers AVP

From what I've seen on maye.. the team insiders, ect. Since he's been in the organization he's gotten better each day. His footwork, ect has all improved. Hats off to AVP for that. He basically won the starting Job.. but the " plan" was kept.

Once stranger and Sow can comeback that at least sures up some things. There absolutely nothing, nothing we the fans or Drake can gain by watching a lesser talent QB.. as much as hoyer had to watch brady you'd think hoyer would have been a pro bowler at least.
Excellent points there's no hope for some QB's even with favorable circumstances you're either decent or not.

Huh?? On how not to play QB that might be good for him but now for us fans.

The goal is to make Maye a franchise QB or even an elite QB for the next two decades for this team. Not to get him quickly so the Pats can win a few more games this year.

AVP says he would still benefit more by sitting a watching. From what we have seen of Maye in the preseason, he has progressed with his mechanics and decision making. So we have to think that AVP is doing at least a decent job developing Maye. So we have to give him the benefit of the doubt that he knows what is best for Maye.

Maye has been a fast learner. But that doesn't mean he has progressed enough to start without risking him regressing and busting out.
Think of Maye like how Buffalo went ahead with Josh Allen we all thought he sucked early on yeah he turned it around among the best in the league now. Maye sitting doesn't sit well with me no pun.

I just think alot of what happened with Mac still permeates through our fandom.. Drake has a totally different make up then Mac.. mayo, avp and Drake can all grow together. Maye has a excellent attitude, he doesn't appear to get to high or too lowe. The guy oozes confidence. I know the Line isn't great.. I'm just hopeful that we get the guys back and then he can take over.. I was hoping for watchable football this season.

Allen is the exception to the rule. How many young QBs did Buffalo ruin before Allen?

Honestly here's what I configure whenever AVP says that.

Maye is the #2 for a reason becuase they know he is ready.. even admitted that Drake could line up now and run a huddle.

If Drake was no where ready he would have been stashed and Zapp would have been kept on the roster. The OL is the deciding factor to not play Maye.

Yes sir.. that's why from what we saw from Maye and the fact he's the #2.. he's getting 35% first team snaps.. that tells us something

They just Sucked Rob it's not an Exact science whether a guy sits or not. Did any of those guys went on to become decent in the League?? I didn't think so.

I mean that's kind of where we knew he was when signed him but he's been worse.

I suppose I hoped maybe a little closer to 25 or even 20 but thats a stretch.

I think maybe I should blame myself a little for not actually making a list.

But it's pretty obvious he's at the bottom of the starters and I would say there are even multiple teams with better backups.
I can't believe I thought he would be say a 18TD and 7 INTS type of QB.. he may end up with 5 TDs on the season.

This has nothing to do with Mac. Mac came into the league NFL ready. He didn't fall apart until his second year. If I am looking at comps in the league to Maye, I might look at Sam Darnold and Geno Smith who both failed because they were rushed into the starting roles too quickly and are finally proving themselves in their third or fourth team.

When Maye was drafted, most experts agreed that Maye's raw talent is off the charts, but his mechanics sucked and he came from a bad system that wasn't NFL style of an offense. He had a lot to learn. That is why I think he should sit. I always thought from the minute he was drafted that he needed to sit for upwards to the entire year until he is ready. He a lot to learn. More than any of the top QB taken this year.

If you wanted a QB who could start right away, you should have rooted for the Pats taking JJ McCarthy. If the Pats drafted McCarthy, I would probably be ok with him starting now. He came into the league more NFL ready.

I'm talking about how you mentioned Drake being ruined. How? If you're not mentally strong then you shouldn't be in the NFL.. the game is about mentally and physically toughness.. yeah McCarthy I was in on too.. but we took Drake. I know he was projected to be a project. As Curran reported no one excpe Drake to be where he his now. That goes to coaching and the work drakes put in.

I bet you that a lot of first round bust QBs would have been good or even great QBs if they ended up with better teams or were allowed to develop before they started. Look at some of the top QBs so far this year - Darnold, Mayfield, Geno, and Malik Willis this past weekend. They were all busts or major disappointments with the teams that drafted them.

I don't even really think I considered stats that much. I just kind of figured we knew he wasn't one of the better starters in league definitely bottom third but I also just assumed he'd be better than Mac/Zappe. Honestly it was extremely lazy on my part. There was nothing about Jacoby that made me want to look into anything about him and I just made a bad assumption.

No. I am talking about how if you are constantly under pressure and you are still working on your footwork it is a recipe for developing bad habits.

Again, I don't care about this year. With or Maye starting, this team is going nowhere. The priority is to make sure he turns into a franchise QB. If the coaching staff do not think he is ready, then I believe he isn't ready.

Wolf, Mayo and AVP are all tied to Drake. So I say this. After week 5 stranger will be available. Get him and Sow back in the line up and start Drake. There is no reason to keep trotting Jacoby out there. 368 pass yards in 3 games. Just painful to watch. I'm not sure the offense is better than last season at this point. I was optimistic in the offseason the QB position even with Brissett would be better. I was wrong. Yeah the line has been bad.. but so has he. AVP is wolf's guy so he will give him rope.

The offense is actually better....just by virtue of the QB not turning the ball over. We were able to run the ball effectively in 2 out of 3 games.

Not sure what the hell AVP was doing in Thursday in the Meadowlands.....I understand that the Jets have a good defensive front, but we cannot deviate from our commitment to the run game. Stevenson/Gibson need at minimum 6 rush attempts a quarter. We should be running the ball at least 45% of our offensive snaps...or about 24 attempts a game. And we activated ALL OF OUR WR's for that game because we had a bunch of injured guys (Lowe, Sow, & Bentley).....I felt that we could have brought up another OL from the practice squad to just rotate in or be the sixth OL-man? We do have two unknown OL-men on the PS....but both would have been more useful than Boutte in that game.

And Bedard sucks. I joined his site 2-3 years ago....did not re-up my subscription....weak ass analysis....

I'm with you. I really, really, was wrong on my assessment of Jacoby.. I understand it's not 100% his fault.. but when the QB is not a threat defenses just sit on the routes and rush 4 sith success. Even in week 1.. he missed Tyquan at least 2 times for big plays... the miss to hooper when we finally had a drive going.

I get it. That's why I'm asking the question. When strange comes back.. with Sow and the line settles. After how more 88 passing yards games will it take to get off the Jacoby gives us the best chance island ?..

Yes! Going away from the run game had alot to do with us being down early. So we had to pass..but had we committed to the run we could have kept Rodgers off the field and maybe had ball control susut drives. We'll I get not having turn overs.. however we are 31 in PPG.. the QB has 368 passing yards on the season.

If been a BSJ subscriber since beginning. I really value Bedard’s takes, Giardi, etc.

Aside…Nick Cattles pod is really good of you haven’t seen it.

Bedard def isn’t the most affable guy, and has some harsh takes sometimes BUT I generally appreciate that he doesn’t do “hot takes”.

In this case, I think he is right.

AVP has underwhelmed badly.

But, so has Wolfe with personnel, and Covington hasn’t exactly blown me away.

Still a LOT wrong with this team.

We really won’t know if this staff can fix it for a few years unfortunately.

If not, it’s rough because then you start over AGAIN with a young QB learning a new system.

I do think Kraft may have really screwed the pooch but hope I’m wrong.

I'm not giving those two clowns (F&M) the clicks. Anyone want to summarize?

You could just grit your teeth and figure how to separate wheat from chaffe with those guys. They might be two parts noise/nonsense to one part useful information, but it's worthwhile -- especially with a knowledgeable guest holding court.
