I know Greg Bedard has his detractors but I trust his analysis more often than not. Today on his weekly 98.5 stint he didn't have much positive to offer on the Pats coaching staff, firing a few salvos at AVP citing poor scheme beyond the personnel woes.

I heard some of it ... he was really agitated.
A coach pulling random plays out of their ass leaving players confused.
Maybe that somewhat explains the confused look I see from Jacoby.

Didn't they go through this with Mac Jones?

Way to early to get too critical but I'm not sure what he's done that we are supposed to be encouraged by?
Wolf, Mayo and AVP are all tied to Drake. So I say this. After week 5 stranger will be available. Get him and Sow back in the line up and start Drake. There is no reason to keep trotting Jacoby out there. 368 pass yards in 3 games. Just painful to watch. I'm not sure the offense is better than last season at this point. I was optimistic in the offseason the QB position even with Brissett would be better. I was wrong. Yeah the line has been bad.. but so has he. AVP is wolf's guy so he will give him rope.

Avp definitely is a concern so far. I watched an all 22 where this guy broke down all of maye’s snaps against nyj. He wasn’t a pats fan or hater. The guy ripped avp and his offense to shreds. All his critiques made perfect sense (play design, play call, etc).

Another concern is teams seem to know every time we want to run a screen or pap. Only can remember one long one screen to henry and one to hooper working well. The rest have been blown up. Not sure if thats on him for predictability? We need to be a good screen team given how limited we are. They were good in preseason but that hasnt carried over.

The only plus thus far has been maye’s overall development. If you see how he was from the first couple padded practices to the last preseason game, they seem to at least be doing a decent job there, i hope! He was there for mayfields best season in cle and last year did a decent job with Flacco as his qb, but hard to tell how much stefanski factored in since hes an offensive mind. But i think he needs to be on a short leash by seasons end.

Not enough to hang himself.

To be fair the guy was an AVP hater upon hire and a little biased, he's not necessarily wrong but he's going to come at it with a negative slant.

AVP is not a top Coordinator, you watch the top guys, the creativeness, the motion, the unpredictability is all there.
Shanahan, McVay, Reid, McDaniel, Lafleur, O Connell, Johnson, maybe Slowik are my list. AVP lands somewhere in the group after.

I was not a fan of his fit for Maye, I hope he will adjust play calling to fit Maye when the time comes.
I want a younger, more creative caller from one of the systems of the best coordinators.
If AVP cannot get the offense rolling this year they need to fire him and go aggressively after a more innovative coach. Don't wait.
I also hope AVP can adjust his style a bit to fit his personnel, but he makes several dumb play calls a game and not clear if that's common for play callers, Josh would have a couple a game also but was more creative.
It seems we've gone from a game plan offense to a system offense, I hate that. I'm already bored with his play calling, I assume it might be related to the line issues and Jacoby limitations so I withhold full judgement until Maye plays and the line is healthier.

In terms of Daniels, as I stated I expected him to have the best rookie season of all QB's but also expected him to have a rough 2nd year as teams adjust. 17 games of running and being hit takes its toll, ask Lamar. When you get more reluctant to run, you have to rely on throwing and then we will see down the line with Daniels. Running skills always translate and the elite skill he has makes life easier for sure. Of course, the 2nd best scrambler in college last year was Drake Maye. The stats they quote in the video on Daniels and Maye are a laymen's way of looking at college QB's, completely meaningless drivel.

If the reports are to be believed Nick Caley was their guy and AVP was Plan B.
Caley was offered 3.5 to be the OC.. he and Mayo have a great relationship.. reported was that the Rams really like caley and wanted him to stay.. so that is why the pivot to AVP.. he wasn't the top choice. Caley turned the job down to stay with McVay.

Well we are stuck with him for at least this year. It was a questionable hire from the beginning so it’s little surprise.
Wolf is AVPs ally.. I've always felt that I can't really correctly judge AVP as an OC until Drake takes over. AVP can't even call everything on his call sheet becuase the offense is so limited right now.

I think AVP was about Plan H or Plan K. Seems like a nice person, knows QB fundamentals, but the whole offensive strategy and play calling seems to be way over his head. His play calling is simple and disjointed because AVP is simple and panics. AVP is strictly a QB coach like at Cleveland. Even then he did not work out.

Our GM and coach were not convincing to the other 10 or 15 initial OC candidates. It is not the players, the players change. A new OC looks at the head coach, GM, and owner. It is a statement that so many candidates said No.

AVP's call sheet is a 3" x 5" note card. No jet sweeps, no WR screens, no RB screens, no motion, no OL pulling, no passes over 10 yards.

We are going to establish the run is not an innovative offensive system. Idiots!!

He does deserve criticism for this.

You've got a run heavy offense.

Where are you playfakes, your play-action passes?

We almost never do this.
