This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.

In an ideal world, Lowe is the backup. But we're in this world. And the line looked a lot worse last night without Lowe than the ones in the first two games with him.
In an ideal world, Lowe is not on the depth chart.
In a patchwork world, Lowe is a backup.
In a Wolf press conference, Lowe is the starter.

It is what it is, but did not have to be like this with a little sports management.

Lowes feet are slow and he does not change directions very quickly so speed hurts him as it does Owenu. Hopefully Wallace can show enough that he starts getting more run with the starters.

Edit: It's also the reason why chips tend to throw him off as was the case in preseason when Maye gor popped after Harris chipped the DE while Lowe was blocking him. It also happened with Boye when Jordan chipped and JB got sacked after he held the ball 4 eva.

I know Exactly the play to which you’re referring; we said the very same thing at the bar after the replay was shown. Low was too slow, naturally, to react to Maye’s new angle after Jordan’s ill-timed block.

It seems (to me) like defenses are seeing Onwenu as a weak link and starting to abuse him.

Edit: PFF says Onwenu was decent, but Robinson and Wallace had rough nights. Take that for what it's worth.

The rookies were easily the worst, but Onemenu was right behind them… For a RT, the dude’s pass-blocking so far this season has Sucked.

why not just start Jones or put the names of all the Practice Squad OT's from other teams in a hat and start one and have a second as a backup?
All the members of others teams practice squads... or just the talented ones?
Or just fire the coach, GM and staff. After all, they likely think that Lowe on the team is better than having Jacobs and Thomas as our two LT's.
They thought playing Alex Austin and benching Marco Wilson was smart last game. Then Austin got embarrassingly smoked by a 6'5' tall WR who shook him out of his Nikes for an easy TD. Why? Because Wilson had a pass interference called on him in the previous game that frankly should never have been called because the ball was way out of bounds.

I don't think Mayo and coaches have final say on personnel or who plays. I think Wolf and the front office told them Lowe and Chuks were the starters and to make it work... and I think the front office are completely wrong and have issues evaluating offensive linemen. They suck at it...

Fine by me.

Gotta love collaboration

BTW, kudos to you. Thomas did play LT in college in 2021.

And delayed kudos to you for insisting that Michael Jordan could play and be effective as a starting OG. He has played at least as good as any of the other OL's this year, perhaps better than anyone else.

Wallace played one game at LT and there was good, bad and ugly. Tbh, I’d keep him there and let him take his lumps as long as possible. Learn on the fly, get valuable experience, refine techniques and keep coaching him up and hope he gets better as the season moves along. Again, its becoming rarer and rarer to see rookies make LT starts in this league. I’ve definitely not given up hope he is going to contribute at some point as a reliable starter after just one game.

Sign Alaric Jackson or draft Kelvin Banks to be your LT. Move Wallace back over to RT where you hope after playing LT will make the transition flow a lot easier.

Yeah, Thomas was a college tackle who converted to guard in the NFL. So he should be able to be a tackle again in an emergency, but he hasn't played tackle at all in the NFL as far as I know. I suppose since he is not a starter right now, he can be a depth guard AND tackle.

Have to agree that we must give kudos to the captain, he has been banging the table for Michael Jordan for a couple of years now.

Yeah, Onwenu has to go back to guard. But I don’t know what the solution is to RT or LT with these injuries.

The starters on the line overperformed in week 1, but the backup line is exactly what we thought they were.

They can over perform when they are able to run the ball, when they can’t they are completely screwed. Just like 3rd and long any time a defense knows they have to throw the QB will be running for their life.

Now that teams see the Pats tape, and the JETS showed how to stop our run, it will be even tougher. There was no tape in Wk #1.

I agree, and the fact that they can’t throw makes it worse, as teams really don’t have to worry about it.

I think that is the problem though is that we never committed to the run.
The JETS put 8 guys in the box and dared us to run. Once we were down 2 scores, running into an 8 man box was not going to work. It is hard to commit to the run when losing by 2+ scores.

I think Stevenson was dinged up too. He only had 2 carries in the second half.

I gotta admit, I liked Jordan coming out of college during the 2019 draft as a borderline top-100 prospect because of his physical & athletic profiles (the dude’s built like a Tackle!) and his experience at both Center & Guard while at Ohio State; though if I had to choose a Guard where Frodo was taken that year, I would’ve chosen Oklahoma’s Ben Powers ahead of both of them…

I also like the fact that during the early days of TC before the pre-season schedule, he was in many cases the Very First player on the field; perhaps he realized that this was his last best chance to earn a steady NFL paycheck…

After seeing how many WRs were active for the game, I had a feeling that the passing attack was going to be featured more prominently than it had been during the first two weeks… I think AVP even admitted that this approach was too unbalanced.

If they can get Lowe and Sow back this coming week it should help, but Robinson’s rookie mistakes lead to free rushers in the middle periodically, and probably have something to do with Onwenu’s lackluster RT performance the last couple weeks. I like the kid but I think he needs a little time on the bench to get his pass protection game in better shape.

Once Strange is back, I would either put him at RG or put Sow there and Strange at LG. Onwenu back to RG is an option, but tackle depth is just too thin. With a guard who is competent in pass protection next to him, Onwenu probably improves at tackle.

With any luck, all of the above can happen as soon as week 5 which may be when they want to send Maye out there.

As an aside, Bourne is also coming back and I think this is a little overlooked. Osborn is really not doing anything and he’s getting tons of snaps. I think Bourne/Polk will be a better top 2, with Douglas coming on for 3 receiver sets.

I agree with all this but have to ask the question…how does an OT in the nfl, that’s played college, high school (probably), and more than likely pre wee, not know how pass pro works? I get that pros are different but really? Shoulda sat on ps until this was worked out but being pressed into this won’t help. We should keep an eye on him since he’s the exact opposite of what Maye has been doing. Sitting vs being forced into playing.
