Brisset took two devastating hits yesterday (one which was "standing in" with the QB trying to let the wr get open but the other was 100% OL suckage) - one I didn't think he was getting up from.
The latter is what we want to avoid the rookie taking (and have shown up in every game thus far including preseason) on a weekly basis. The OL has to have at least one game without an unabated to the QB slam before they get the rookie rolling.
Managed it so well the calls to bench him started before the opening kickoffAmazing we came out of there with a win. Brissette managed that game very well.
Starting Maye will fix all those"Work in progress" I swear I'm living in an alternate reality.
Okorafor was *pulled* in the first quarter, your starting left tackle, because he was so bad. Robinson damn near got Brissett killed, because he decided it was a good idea to double-team the end (who Onwenu had at a complete stalemate), instead of the free rusher right in front of him. 2-5 on playaction throws because there was no time. David Andrews was too slow to get out on a screen. It was through the sheer force of will Brissett completed any passes at all. That pass protection was the worst I've seen in my 40+ years of being a Patriots fan, worse than Rod Rust/**** McPherson. There were three players on that line that couldn't pass protect at *all*.
It's a serious problem that the front office decided to not bother addressing in the offseason. That defense is much better than I expected, and they're going to waste another year of it, because they couldn't be bothered to address the offensive line. It's incredibly frustrating. I'm not sure Prime Brady could have done much better behind that line.
I thought I heard Bedard report it. Grain of saltWho reported it?
I'm skeptical about this.
75% (probably higher)of Boston sports media is full of ****
I think he did a phenomenal job, but I think that he can eventually be upgradedEveryone *****ing about Lowe should keep in mind that besides being just off an injury with little practice time, he was going against a guy who had 17.5 sacks last year. Hendrickson finished the game with a total of two tackles and 2 QB hits.
It wasn’t the worst OL performance of all time, relax. And some of the problems will be easy fixes. What I liked is they all appear to be physically up to the task, it’s now settling into their positions and coaching up the new guys."Work in progress" I swear I'm living in an alternate reality.

I mean he is playing football. Something bad could happen on any play. So just keep him in a bubble wrap and never play him. So like that you are gonna be sure he never gonna develop that.^^^THIS^^^
This is what we do NOT want Maye to be developing, the fear of knowing his future is in jeopardy every pass play.
Just speculating. Burrow got it out really fast a vast majority of the time. It was Mac rookie season-esque.How were they being conservative though?
Yes it was Beddard.I thought I heard Bedard report it. Grain of salt
I thought you were a spy in Patriots gear for a minuteThe results of this first game were a blessing *.
(* despite the family resemblance, I am not affiliated with the Cincinnati Bengals)

You could play behind the best offensive line in football get hit bad only one time and it would be enough. I think we need to give a little more credit to the kid and not treat him like he is Mac Jones.
What are you doing next year if the line is still not good enough? You sit him another year because you are too afraid he’ll get hurt?
Honestly I am more confident in Drake Maye being able to play behind this OL than Eliott Wolf fixing the offensive line. Every one talking about Will Campbell but if we start winning some game this year I don’t know that we are gonna in position to draft one of the top OT. Then what do you do?
My feeling is that if you sit Maye this year your are planning on him being a fully functional NFL QB for 2026. I think people need to wake up and realize that sitting a player 1 year doesn’t transform any QB in Patrick Mahomes.
Fair enoughMy thinking is reasons for sitting Maye include:
1. learning a much larger nfl playbook
2. adjust Speed of nfl game
3. OL stable -continuity established.
4. NFL vs college season length
5. ability to discern disguised coverage
Let’s assume he has checked box on 1 ( but only the coaches truly know this).
2. again this is coach-level info. But more practice helps & I don’t think 1 preseason suffice. But can be multiple valid opinions here.
3. with the combos tried & current injuries I think there is serious merit to the offense focusing for 4+ weeks on getting stability here without confusing QB & OL simultaneously
4 This is the most under-discussed point. But Mayo stated this (in a subtle way -lost in middle of a paragraph). So he thinks so too.
Every rookie crashes somewhere between game 10-12. a 6-month vs 10-mo season is a SERIOUS difference. So I think going in, barring JB injury; the plan ought to be that Maye WILL NOT start till somewhere in the game 8-10 window. That still gives him 7-9 games to fix (fine tune) items 2 & 6. to me this sets you up best to both win now (if by a miracle make playoffs ) & to develop the future for 2025.
6. rookie QBs will fall for this. Learning takes time practice & seeing in the QB & film rooms. And again this is a coach-level info to decide if he is ready. But you don’t need to give away wins by losing turnover battle 3:1 like most of the other rookies in game 1 did.
BOTTOM-LINE: „Patience Grasshopper „
Let the coaches make their Evals. You don’t know if he flat out isn’t there yet on some of those coach-Level infos & Mayo is just protecting him (not diming him out to the press).
AND, ….It’s not like our bulletin board yells are changing minds or something anyway.
What we really need is a couple blowouts in next 8 weeks where Mayo-AVP can feel comfortable with letting him run a series or two in 4Q. But w our O that may take til at least …….Jester week
Maybe, but I can live with that. There goes the first overall pick.
It's a question of probability: yes, something *can* happen even with the best OL in football, but the probability of it happening with the Patriots OL is much higher.I mean he is playing football. Something bad could happen on any play. So just keep him in a bubble wrap and never play him. So like that you are gonna be sure he never gonna develop that.

If the line is still atrocious and not near league average, Wolf and Mayo should be fired. They have one task this offseason: deliver a good OL next year. If they fail, I don't know if he plays in that scenario, but there will be tremendous pressure to send him out there. What are you doing next year if the line is still not good enough? You sit him another year because you are too afraid he’ll get hurt?
Then the team has some very hard decisions to make, including playing Maye after failing to address the #1 need of the team. If they don't, I don't think Wolf (at least) survives until year 3.Honestly I am more confident in Drake Maye being able to play behind this OL than Eliott Wolf fixing the offensive line. Every one talking about Will Campbell but if we start winning some game this year I don’t know that we are gonna in position to draft one of the top OT. Then what do you do?
There's at least one decent list of good QBs who sat their first year and were good in year 2, available right in this forum. Did anyone say that sitting a QB transforms them into a QB that might be the SGOAT?My feeling is that if you sit Maye this year your are planning on him being a fully functional NFL QB for 2026. I think people need to wake up and realize that sitting a player 1 year doesn’t transform any QB in Patrick Mahomes.
If he has time to throw deep, but is not going to happen too often with this OL.After watching the Evan Lazar breakdown with all 22 video has made me super effin excited about Maye starting. I think he would be able to push the ball downfield and that would probably create more space for the run game.
