Hawkins played a good game. Not exactly how I envisioned his use but the Pats also were much more advanced in their deployment than I expected them to be under Mayo and Covington. They are a lot closer to Belichick's level than I anticipated. Let's see if they are at his level when it comes to adjusting for your opponent week-over-week, in-game adjustments, taking away what the other team does best, etc.
He’s been good against TE’s and the Bengals went pretty TE heavy with some WR’s out with injury.

Hawkins allows Dugg and Pepper to roam, which is good for team speed. The Pats are also light at WLB with Mapu and Takitaki injured.

The Cincy offense even minus Higgins is still pretty formidable. The luxury of this defense the never stay in the same formation they are a chameleon defense so to speak. So offenses can never really get a beed on what they are doing from snap to snap. They will allow an offense one thing, but take out the key cog. Burrow isna top 5 QB and starting the season off like this is good. Remember we are still without Barmore so the D isn't at full strength. For example for a team like SF. Take away the run make Purdy beat you. Something the Jets failed to do.

Wilson played 29% of the snaps. I think this will depend a lot on matchups week to week.
I expected him to solidify a top CB spot. So maybe it was game plan thing.

Dont give up on your boy yet he'll be needed at some point we used the third safety more than 4th corner Sunday but that might not always be the case. For another matchup we could choose to go more CB centric.

And injuries inevitably happen too and Austin needs to be ready to take advantage.
Oh I won't. I still think he can play at a high level. We had a deep CB group and when we see teams that like to spread you out he will be called upon.

Fwiw Wilson played 15 defensive snaps and allowed 1 reception

Was it him who got flagged for the 20 yard dpi? I cant remember who it was but pretty sure it wasn’t gonzo or one of the jones’s

The secondary is who we thought they would be. Still a long season but I feel validated today lol.
Lol well understandable that some fans would have doubts until they saw it as we did loose the GOAT HC.. however what's so impressive is they are doing it without the best player on D beast-more.

Sounds like they are going to play it safe with him and not rush him back this year.

My twisted mind reads that and thinks it implies they could have maybe asked him to rush and didn't.

So does that mean if we're playing well late in the year and he gets cleared could he choose (having not been pressured) to come back on his own?

Agree as David Andrews dealt with it as well, and he was out the season too. I know as we face potent offenses the challenges become greater.. but just getting that stigma of not beating good QBs off thier backs must have bee. Gratifying. I wish barmore a full speedy recovery.

Yeah pretty sure i heard number 0 called for something. But i can live with a 5 yard penalty given his other #s against chase!
Yeah.. I never got caught up in the camp reports.. how he supposed had a up and down camp.. training camp isn't camp anymore it's drills and conditioning more than anything. Guys a student of the game.. he forged a great relationship with Steve Smith Sr.

Ross, ain't that asking too much of a rookie HC?
Belichick is arguably the best defensive coach in nfl history.
And his in-game adjustments mightve been his biggest strength.
Mayo was always sharp defensively, but will be years before he comes even close to Belichick in the 3 areas you mentioned.
I feel good about Mayo defensively but that's like asking Maye to duplicate Bradys 2007 season as a rookie

Well yeah that's why I said "let's see". I didn't expect them to be as good as they were yesterday so let's see what happens, maybe they continue to exceed expectations.

You must understand that this is terrible and that stats and facts are irrelevant.

Folks have their favorites (Austin, Dial and Bolden) who they think is best as our #4 corner. It matters little that Marco had 15 defensive snaps and did well. Their favorite could have done better.

This is the way it has been for years.

You are confusing me.

Do you think that Marco is better, or Austin?

Personally, I don't think that it is close.

Right, think he has a similar preseason last year before ballin out in the real games. It’s obviously hard to not worry at all so bit of a relief to see his performance

True. Becuase all we have is the camp reports until the real games count. But I'm really looking forward to big things from gonzo. I'm looking forward to the match up with he and DK... this season for some reason feels eerily similar to the 2020 season. I don't know why.

Hawkins played some FS and wasn’t bad. Dugger had the majority of snaps there…I think.

And while I’m at it…Marco Wilson over Alex Austin.
I actually like them both. Marco just has more playing experience.
