OT: These NFL games are too long

Having a second tv set up with the red zone channel on works well.

Sunday ticket now allows you to show up to 4 games at once. But their way to customize it is wonky. I couldn't figure out to get the four channels I wanted at once. It seemed to not allow you to add certain games or the red zone when you already selected other games.

Personally, I sorely miss replay of plays.

I think the game's low play time becomes so evident on TV without them. You cant focus on any part of the game, so you just following the ball, and in certain games, if there isnt any sustained drives, it becomes unbearable

Without the replays, there is no way to breakdown live schemes, watch zones develop, nothing. If you dont replay after the match, there is no way to *ahem* tactically appreciate Football. So it becomes a dilluted proceds

Then after you watch the upteenth insurance ad, you think "wow, this is taking too long"

The ironic thing is the Patriots game finished significantly before 4PM. Because of all the running by the Pats, the game ended early. Most of the other games went on for at least another ten minutes or more.
Surely now Roger will outlaw the run since that means less commercial breaks thus less revenue for NFL's "partners" thus less ability for NFL to take money off them.

Who cares if the product on the field turns into flag football, people will watch anyhow.

Clearly, NFL doesn't give a **** about the quality of their product.

My workaround is to have my own DVR, that way I can skip commercials and do my own replays.

Also, so far I am able to get all the games I care to watch over the air for free.

But, sooner or later they'll squeeze me out of the market too.

I think we're only gonna see more monetization grabs from the NFL, as they just became the final major sports league - and honestly, one of the very few industries in general - to give into private equity. Owners can now sell minority stakes to private equity

The hulking behemoth price tag of team valuations invites the opportunity for outside investment, and in turn, outside interests to continue to carve out seats at the bargaining table (though the restrictions the NFL has put on that minority stake are quite... well, restrictive).
I don't think private equity is going to increase team valuation by ridiculous amounts. Part of the reason NFL teams are so expensive is because of the prestige of owning one; not because of the actual financials behind the deal. As you mention, the NFL has placed strong restrictions on how much equity can invest..... so equity is missing out on the best part, and consequently won't pay a premium.

Nah, I'm saying private equity was introduced in response to the massive surge in team valuations. It needed that extra capital.

I guess, I worry about the restrictions doing much on the long term. The NFL said it'd never allow gambling and look at it now. I can't go a single day without seeing the gambling ads now.

And, with equity at the table, it can threaten to take away its investment after 6 years, and who knows if they try to leverage that when it comes.

That being said, I hope you're correct.

Don’t understand how we are paying for a service to only have them advertise to us in it and dilute the product even more. Tbh even more infuriating to me is picking something from on demand and not being able to ff through ****. Makes me want to cancel everything.

Had an infuriating experience with Hulu a few years ago. They had plan where you paid $2 or so a month more for less commercials. Totally not worth it because what it meant was the same commercials in anything made in the last year or two, no commercials on reruns and old movies. Total bait and switch kind of move. Was ready to give up my standalone DVR, but, nope, no way.

I guess other people just put up with commercials, but they really bother me. Too many commercials and I'll do something else like put on music and read a book.

In the early days of social media the line was let us monitor you so we can send you ads that are on target. That's horseshit. Only rarely do I see ads for stuff I'm considering buying.

With you 100%. If we are paying for something you should not be inundated with ads. I realize they probably can’t/wont get rid of all of them but cmon every 4 minutes is a bit much….

Does everyone here enjoy a little football while watching commercials???
I record most things and watch later. The only time I can't is when I watch the SB with my youngest. He's not really a sports fan and won't let me skip the ads.

How long are these games in cat years?

I just watch the games at https://nfl-video.com/2024 after the fact... No commercials. Free. Use an ad-blocker. Takes 2-4 hours for the games to show up, typically. Not 4K quality, but I don't mind.
