Didn't have time to read the thread, but some points:

  • - One of the underrated things about yesterday was how Gonzalez guarded Chase. I think most of Chase's pass catches were when Gonzalez was not on him one on one in man. Here are some examples:

- I have been critical in the past for the Keion White pick. Not because I didn't think he was any good, but because I thought he was a luxury pick for a team with so many holes especially at WR and OT. But if he continues to play like he did yesterday, he might be one of the best draft picks the Pats have made in the last decade. Granted he won't be facing Trent Brown every week when he is lined up on the outside.
- I forgot Brown went to the Bengals. And yesterday I was reminded why I didn't care why he left the Patriots. He is a guy with potential All Pro talent and practice squad effort.
- A little concerned about the WRs. Not an impressive effort by any of them. When Thornton is your most productive WR, you gotta be worried. I assume Baker was in the dog house yesterday because of his social media BS and response to it. I think Polk may need some time. Osborn is Osborn. He can make some plays but is totally unreliable.
- I do like what we see out of the TEs. Hooper when healthy is a pretty good TE. Let's hope he will stay healthy. But you are not going to win a lot of games if your passing offense is mostly Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper. You need more production out of the WRs.
- Why wasn't Douglas more of the game plan especially with the Bengals sending the house early? You got five or six guys rushing the QB, dump it off to Douglas and he could make a lot of plays after the catch.
- After being bashed all summer, the o-line did a pretty good job. Far from perfect, but they look to be a big bunch that can manhandle a lot of d-lines. Let's hope what we saw yesterday will transfer.
- Based on what I saw yesterday, Brissett is basically a back up who can come in and win a few games when the starter is down. Unfortunately for now, he is the starting QB. Maye should replace him as soon as he is ready to do so and only then. But I wonder how long Brissett can play just good enough to give the Pats a chance to win. Because that is all he did.
- Stevenson is faster than he was. A little more elusive.
- It was game one. A lot of fluke outcomes in the first week of the season and the Bengals were without Tee Higgins. That said, if they can play like they did yesterday all season (at least with Brissett in at QB), they will win more games than many expect. They are still not a playoff team. Certainly not a contender. But 6-7 wins is not out of the question.

If you're going to play that game. Change one win from a loss in 2022 and 2 out 3 Mac seasons would have a winning record including Matty Ps first year. You might still have Mac, BB, and Matty P that way.
Can't really compare that with a 3-14 team who the Pats beat by 40 defeating a playoff contending team and making them miss the playoffs by 1 game

Good points. Regarding the wr’s i think its kinda tough to really evaluate them based on the run heavy scheme and as much as i love Jacoby he is very limited as a passer and can miss open guys time to time.

One of the reasons i think we do need to turn it over to maye once he is ready, with jacoby we will probably not learn much about the younger wr’s especially Thornton who should be able to catch some deep ones but i doubt he will as long as Jacoby is qb

You also can't compare the MIA team that played JAX to the "playoff contending team" you're painting them as. That loss vs. JAX knocked them to 1-5 on their way to a 1-7 start. And their 1 win was against us in a game that they likely lose if Harris doesn't fumble while in FG range for a game winner. After that MIA-JAX game both teams were 1-5. Credit to MIA for turning their year around, but make no mistake about it, at that point in time they were a dumpster fire like JAX too. It's disingenuous to try and paint their whole year with a broad brush like that.

But they still missed the playoffs by 1 game and that one really stands out. If Miami beats them they're in and the Pats are out.

White got piss tested

What area are you going to be in?

If it's a late game or the bars in the area aren't showing it DAZN have gamepass that shows the games and you can subscribe on a week to week basis and watch it on any device.

TV here shows a game in the early window, game in the late afternoon window, redzone and all primetime games, everything else people are buying redzone on DAZN, most bars would just be showing the televised games.
Glasgow initially, not sure about the game afterwards.

You can go through the schedule and I'm sure you'd find something that stands out. We did lose by a replayed toe vs the Raiders.

While I don't disagree, Mayo has said some things that made it sound like Brissett had to lose the starting job (or Maye win it outright). While it wouldn't be the first time Mayo said something that got walked back, if he's being genuine, than it is dependent on how Brissett performs.
Mayo says all sorts of things, half of which contradict the other half. I'm more optimistic about his prospects as a HC than I used to be, but I pay no attention whatever to what he says about anything.

Im not sure of the message it sends to the locker room if Brissett is playing well and he’s pulled for Maye. Im concerned about that. I think you play Brissett until he gets injured or starts losing badly.
I fundamentally agree with you, my friend, but the players won't be pissed if Maye is consistently excelling in whatever is being placed in front of him. When he's ready, the team will know, and it won't be a big surprise, imo. Only to the public, perhaps.

It felt better but we didn’t scored much more than what Mac and Zappe were averaging last year.

We played a near perfect game and only scored 16. The win felt great don’t get me wrong. It was a really nice win. I am really happy for Mayo winning his first game a an HC.
The difference is they were able to put together two drives of 12 plays and one of 14. That resulted in shortening the game significantly. I'm

The Bengals put up some numbers in the second half and the Pats had virtually no answers.

Maybe your stream got stuck playing that one drive on replay? Otherwise it looks like they had plenty of answers.

Remember what the Tuna use to say and BB even adopted it when he got here. If you take care of the Football don't turn it over: run it well and play good Defense...you're going to win or be in a lot of games.
Absolutely. There's a lot of talk that a stick-to-the-basics, "conservative" approach is outmoded and can no longer work. While I understand that a more open and aggressive passing game makes sense these days - largely because of rule changes, but also because of changes in the college game, where the NFL gets its players - it's still important to cover the basics: running, tackling, discipline, ball security, conditioning, and so on. It looks as if under Mayo, we'll get that sort of emphasis, and that's really promising. When you add just a few standout athletes to a basically sound, balanced team, you have a winner. It looks as if that's the approach. Pretty cool.

LOL, the Pats don't have a number 1 WR either.

I dunno. The Bengals put up some numbers in the second half and the Pats had virtually no answers. But to the Pats credit, the played smart football and didn't hurt themselves.
We are talking about Burrow a top 5 QB.. we pretty much handcuffed his offense game. He moved the ballsome[ and we stopped him mostly. QUOTE="archstanton543, post: 6861633, member: 34761"]

Last season was abysmal watching this team. The 16 points scored yesterday felt efficient, the play calling was effective and the overall goal was to run the ball and keep Burrow on the sidelines. I'm not complaining the offense will continue to gel more and each week under AVP.
