Kickoffs were virtually dead already under the old rule. They were almost always touchbacks.I don't like the new kickoff rule. If you want to get rid of kickoffs, just do it.
They don't want to get rid of kickoffs, hence the new rule.I don't like the new kickoff rule. If you want to get rid of kickoffs, just do it.
You oppose players having the option to wear something which is shown to reduce head trauma?I agree. There’s also others rules like players can wear those horrible shells on their helmets.
This game I grew up loving is getting worse each year.
They are already wearing a helmet. You oppose players having the option to wear something which is shown to reduce head trauma?
So extra protection is bad? If helmets worked so well why do they need to keep changing them? They are already wearing a helmet.
No foolin', but the StarCap has been shown to provide increased protection against head trauma. So I'll ask again:They are already wearing a helmet.
I think they will just move the touchback to the 40 yds lineKickoffs were virtually dead already under the old rule. They were almost always touchbacks.
This was an attempt at encouraging more returns. Unfortunately it seems like there were even more touchbacks. There was one KR to the house so it does go to show the play can be exciting.
I think the next step should be to move the start of the kickoff back 5 yards. We could add that an onside kick starts still starts at the 35 since it needs to be announced anyway.
If nothing works I'd say just eliminate it.
God that would be dumb. One first down and then 4th and 1 a lot of kickers could hit that.I think they will just move the touchback to the 40 yds line
You know that there is 2 touchback right ? Inn the new kickoff!God that would be dumb. One first down and then 4th and 1 a lot of kickers could hit that.
I did know the rule but I wasn't thinking lol you're right that certainly would encourage putting the ball in play. I am on board with anything that prevents touchbacks but the 40 still seems a little extreme. If I remember correct I think they considered the 35 and went with the 30 instead. You know that there is 2 touchback right ? Inn the new kickoff!
Now if you kick the ball into the landing zone and the ball rolls out in the EZ the touchback is at the 20.
If you kick the ball directly in the EZ the touchback is at the 30.
If you move the touchback at the 40 when you kick it directly in the EZ then that would force team to put the ball in play because like you said you don’t Mahomes with the ball at the 40 every drive.
Now the teams are just content losing just 5 yds compare to the old touchback
I’m surprised to say I agree. At first I thought this was a giant fail, but now I get it. A rare W for the league. The new kickoff no longer resembles a kickoff but rather a run play, this is why we see a lot of teams using RB's as return men. Blockers have to create holes and defenders have to beat blocks. There will surely still be injuries, but there is less chance of high speed collisions.
Do I miss the old kickoffs... sure, but they were hazardous to player's health. For that reason I accept the new kickoff.
I think Cincy tried this and we lucked out that it bounced out at the one.The new strategy should be obvious: kick a low line drive that bounces around the 10-yard line and goes into the end zone. The returner has to run it out or the ball goes to the 20. Coaches are still wanting to loft the kick into the end zone, just like they used to, resulting in the ball being placed at the 30. The guys lined up can't move until the ball hits the ground or is touched, so hang time is meaningless.
It sucks like the jestI don't like the new kickoff rule. If you want to get rid of kickoffs, just do it.
