Polk instead Kingsley Suamataia?

Maye instead of Alt, would be a better poll.
Actually it would be Maye versus (Bo Nix or Latham or Olu Fashanu) plus the Giants first round pick next year which will probably be in the top 4. Maye looks really got, but....that is a tough call. I guess we have to wait to see how Nix and the Giants do. It is pretty clear that Maye has the Right Stuff so...

One sack allowed against the #1 ranked team in the NFL in sacks last year for a rookie left tackle isn't good?

Let me guess, you're one of these rubes who've been telling us all offseason Okorafor and Lowe weren't that bad.

Patriots fans have officially lost the plot.
You’re judging based on sacks, which is mainly the quarterback?
sorry to say the respected experts have also agreed on my assessment so I’ll go with the guys that know what they’re talking about versus someone who thinks sacks is how you judge the offensive lines play

Also this notion that we’re only complaining now in hindsight because Sumiata won the starting left tackle job for the reigning two time champs is false. I was here pounding the table on draft day saying they should draft him or Patrick Paul #2 when they were available. It’s not hindsight expertise.
It's 100% a factor. Thursday night, every Pats fan who wants a OT screamed at the TV when Sumiatia was introduced, including myself. Collectively, you could hear it across NE.

"Ah **** we should have drafted that kid!"

OK, I concede defeat on this one; Suamataia looked pretty poor in the highlights. Geez, you guy, you are taking all the fun out of second guessing the Patriots draft....however I am optimistic that there plenty of opportunities to second guess as the season progresses.

However, I still think that Baker will turn into a legit NFL WR and the Polk will be our reliable 3-down receiver (I suspect we will be seeing a lot of 3'd and 7's). Polk would have been a fine third or fourth round selection. Last years draft was excellent, but the obvious OL holes have not been addressed.
I think Polk will surprise you. Maybe not right away, it might take until whenever Maye comes in for good, but... I think Polk will flash enough as a rookie to surprise a few folks. Just a feeling.

Yes, if we passed on Maye, we likely would have drafted our choice of QB left at 6 plus the rest of the giants deal.

This is a pretty kneejerk thread.

Suamataia has played one game. He may or may not be any good. We have no idea. The Chiefs tackles were so bad last year that Suamataia may look like an improvement while still being a below average player. We don't know. We'll find out eventually.

Same goes for Patrick Paul.

At this stage we are still arguing the abstraction of value, the idea that LT > WR. We're two years away from even having enough data to make a case for either.

When a reporter told BB that it takes a year or two to know if a draft pick is any good, BB responded that it was clear from the first day of training camp what they had in Lawrence Taylor....of course this is an extreme example, but insiders know already what they have.

Remember when BB used to tell Joe Castiglione after training camp what the Patriots seasonal record would be? He was pretty accurate too...so the coaches know, but it takes us fan a lot longer, but two years seems like along time...although look at Edleman,,,

It’s somewhat under appreciated that Mahomes is a difficult QB to block for due to how much he moves around and holds the ball for. His average release is around 3 seconds (compared to 2.5 for Brady and Manning) but has some very long plays in the outliers. Russell Wilson is another example of this type of player.

C'mon.

One game is plenty for fans to make evaluations.

After all, we haven't played ANY games, and a poster thinks that we have the worst line in the NFL in over 20 years.

We’re upset about some T’s terrible name we can’t pronounce who looked pretty bad opening night?

And the NFL really needs to crack down on the jumping T’s before the snap. Need harsher penalties for multiple offenses.
The chiefs offense line jumping early with no flag but Stanley gets penalties non stop
Hate the chiefs

This was a good game for a rookie OT
If this was a bad game for a rookie, how do they judge lowe‘s play who is a veteran with worse play ?

They have to continue to try to block longer but the reason he takes so long is he avoids hits, his P2S % has always been low, he helps the O line. Put Jacoby Brossett behind that line you can instantly double the sack total, and everyone will be saying the line sucks and needs to be fixed and why won't the Chiefs get lineman blah blah blah.
We know the Tackles were amongst the worst in the NFL last year, didn't matter. So not sure difficult is the best word, he bails out the line over and over again which makes them look better.

Teams basically had a free pass this year with their cap. There is no expectation that the cap will jump in '25 and '26 the way it did in '24. Which means there should be better options at positions of need, via FA and trade.

For instance, if something like the Aiyuk situation repeats next year, the team holding the player will be way less likely to have the money to keep him.
Maybe the revenues this year and next year dip ala covid causing cap to reduce. And let's see what happens then.

Better to keep our reserves and powder dry.

Go re-read your post. You called them trash, not their play. Language matters.
I don't know them personally genius. This is a football forum... right?

Is your point that a 7-year veteran should be able to learn and be effective at a new position is less that a TC and pre-season?
Tackle isn't a new position for Okorafor, he's played it his whole life.

I don't think a game or 2 more with his new teammates and coaches before you absolutely give up on him and throw him out would seem like a reasonable thing to do.
He stunk in Pittsburgh, is it the change of jersey that's going to make him better?

Give me a break. He looked okay - nothing special, A sack and a hold/game isn't great, ya know?

And note that in my next post, I was quite willing to growl about Harry over AJ Brown, and Cole Strange AND Thornton over Nakobe Dean.

The Pats missed way too much for a few years there. That said, I'm of the mind that QB/weapons is today's NFL. So I'll give Polk, who I really liked at Washington, a few games before I start complaining.
Polk better be more than just a solid possession WR like Bourne if they gave up a starting left tackle.

No, it's not... sacks is mostly the offensive line. The reason Nick Foles won a Super Bowl and Carson Wentz was MVP favorite in Vegas before getting injured in 2017 was because that offensive line was dominant... it didn't matter who the starting QB was as long as they were competent.

Conversersely we've watched repeatedly as Brady and Mahomes ran for their lives behind poor injury riddled offensive lines... their magic powers didn't save them or make their line good, give me a break.

Who are the respected experts who said Sumiata played poorly... this should be interesting?

I hope you're right, but I'm starting to think that Baker won't even get on the field because of his attitude about life.
