Why Cut Zappe?

*year 3

Was gonna be a RFA in 2025. Cutting him last year actually slashed a year off of his original 4 year contract. I'm just talking out of my starfish, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Good catch yes year 3 and there is no 5th year option since he’s not a first round pick. My bad.

I don’t know about that last part OTC only has his Chiefs PS contact.

Yes. That's why I was eluding to Brissett being on borrowed time.

You were escaping/evading Brisset being on borrowed time? How does one go about that? Cause there's a certain rookie QB I'd ke to see elude a similar fate

Seen this before. Warner & Flutie couldn't get a job in the NFL.

I've seen nothing at all ever to convince me that Bailey Zappe isn't a better quarterback than Brock Purdy.
Perhaps you haven’t, but most of the world has. If Brock Purdy was cut, he would immediately be claimed by another team. He could be traded for a draft pick, without a doubt. He won football games. Zappe was not considered worth anyone trading anything for him, did not get claimed, did not make a roster, and is on a practice squad.

Bedard stole our thread.

Meaning due to him having that shoulder.. if he starts throwing errant passes, missing open guys, throwing INTS. And the QB position looks like last season I believe the players on defense with speak up and the pressure will mount to play maye daye.

Well gosh, that's just what we need - the defense (a defense without the cache from the last couple of years mind you, that you say will be top 10, I think will be lucky to be top half), revolting against the rookie head coach, who's already been shown to have no actual say or power in the organization, so what, they're going up the back stairs to Jonathan like the old days?

This isn't a winning formula, not even close.

I have no problem with them cutting Zappe. He isn't any good. His ceiling is a decent back up and I don't know if he could reach that ceiling here.

I am more concerned that they didn't add a veteran with some experience with Van Pelt's system to the practice squad.

But turning on the radio yesterday, they are making way too big of a deal of Mayo's comments on Maye starting game two if Brissett goes down in week 1. The odds of Brissett going down is very small. QBs don't injured as much as other players because they are so protected by the rules. It is an overrated issue. Odds are Brissett will be healthy enough to start every game until they are ready to make Maye the starter.

Given the importance of team discipline at the start of a new regime, any player of Defense speaking up should sit out the next game.

And I hope it's sooner rather than later.

I was simply having fun with words. You weren't "eluding to Brissett being on borrowed time" you were alluding to it.

on the field, I have never been a fan of Brisset or Zapster. I don't believe either are accurate, nor does either move well.
off the field, I do believe Brissett is a great team mate. I think his team mates will play very hard for him, and he in turn will support them every minute. that includes his support and growth of Maye. Brisset will be a role model for how Maye should handle himself with his team mates and the media.
Maye is obviously the near future. he needs that vet guidance.
Brisset will give it. willingly. and in large doses.
Zappy imo, was a poor supportive back up for Mac. Zappy to his credit, had designs on the starting position, and did nothing supportive of Mac.
Thats not the back up situation the team wants with Maye on the team

I don't think that is case with the coach. Yeah mayo has had a few gaffs so what. He will be judged from Sunday and beyond. At some point what happens on the field has to matter over what people want to make out of what someone says. I don't see it that way. We've had lesser talent on defense before and still have been respectful. Revolting meaning in the media like how it was last season. I don't think people really understand how awful the offense was. I'm mean really! Guys saying I guess we need to hold teams to 0 points. Me personally I'm looking at like the countdown to maye plays. I don't think Brissett has a long leash.

honestly, I don't think Brissett will lose his job as the #1 QB
however, Maye can take it, by playing well and showing growth in practice and in meetings
unless the team is winning, I expect a change at QB fairly quickly

You make a good point. He would have to be 2023 mac/zappe awful in order for Mayo to pull him. Or behind this line he gets hurt.

Winning I have a hard time seeing one I can't see.

Maye is the only hope this franchise has right now.

Every decision, large or small, no matter what the odds say, should be made with his development in mind.

How in the world is something like putting him in a game before he is ready, behind one of the worst offensive lines in Patriot's history, an overrated issue?

Because the odds he will be put in because Brissett is injured is extremely low. If you listen to talk radio, they talk like it is a forgone conclusion Brissett will be significantly injured requiring Maye to start as soon as week 2. It isn’t.

It's a foregone conclusion that the offensive line is one of the worst in the league.

It's a foregone conclusion that Brissett has already banged up his shoulder. We don't know how the shoulder is really.

If there's any chance, not just small, but ANY chance, you protect the franchise.

What's your fear? They'll lose Christian Elliss or Marcus Dial on waivers. You usually have good takes, but this is a head scratcher.

ADDED: They don't even have a quarterback on the practice squad. It's complete mismanagement on any level.
