Why Cut Zappe?

Who cares about knowing the system, if you ever got to a stage where you wanted to play Zappe in the 2024 season then winning games isn't a priority so it doesn't matter if you have to drag a guy off the street and play him and he stinks.

You care because not knowing the system will mess with our receivers heads, especially since the core are 1st and 2nd year players.

This offense needs a rhythm. Why set that back.

The Pats are a 3 win team with or without Zappe. Joe Milton on the other hand, could turn out to be a star! Plus he has more athletic talent in his pinky finger than Zappe has in his whole body!

Keeping Milton over Zappe was such a no braianer!
milton is a wasted roster spot.

cannon for an arm. couldn't hit the broad side of a barn ... he'd over throw it.

I agree should have kept Zappe. Milton was taken at 193 for a reason. Lightning doesn't strike twice or even three times.

and we cut Zappe because he is so bad that no one in league wanted him on their 53-man roster as a #2 or #3, even though he has experience as a starter.

I don't get cutting Zappe at all. Not that he would ever make a difference in wins/losses, but why leave the team with two rookies as backups?

Drake Maye is either ready to play or not. If he's ready, start him immediately. There's no comparison between Maye and Brissett. If Maye is not ready, don't put him in harms way after the starter has been injured. Maye is the future.

The team can survive with one less jag on the practice squad instead of the team, since no one else would ever be claimed, if they cut the right player. I get what Zappe is, but the most important project is to do what's best for Maye, not be forced to use him.
Great Thread Fam: I withdrew my GM of the year prediction for Wolf I see a lot of Rookie mistakes coming from Him and Mayo.

No he's not we can use him as a RB did you see that hit he put on the Defender while running with the Football?? It's one for the ages.

What's with a press conference to announce the starter? I know it's nitpicking.

Mayo handled the Judon situation well, IMO. Bringing Maye along slowly is the right decision.

The mistakes I see are inconsistency in decision making. And the draft is looking a little meh after Maye. 2023 was much better.

Milton showed enough that Zappe was expendable. Since Mac was gone, he needed to go to. The QB room needed to clear out.

Milton can be a better choice in the red zone the Brissett.

Milton can be a better choice than Brissett in very long yardage situations.

Milton can be a better choice in Hail Mary situations. He can reach the end zone from the 20.
================
And, perhaps, just perhaps he can be coached up to be the #2 next year or be the #3 again and perhaps a future #2 (which is OK for a 6th round pick).

Milton is a development candidate, like a third of the roster. That's fine if they want him. But he's not the backup. Maye is the current backup, which I do not like, if he's not ready to play. If he's ready, which he is not, play him now.

I only care about Maye's development.

fair enough. a point I had not thought of - eventual conversion.

I stand corrected.

He is cannon fodder.

can not have 4 qbs on roster. That is crazy
Point/counter point...

It was 20 years ago today, Sgt Pepper taught his band to play... so let me introduce to you the one and only Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club [QB] Band...

Drew Bledsoe...
John Friesz...
Michael Bishop...
Thomas Edward Patrick Mother****in' Brady

four works for me.

I'd take a flier on him over Zappe if I am the GM. Zappe has no upside at all. Zero point zero. Milton has the potential to be something.

Every team had a chance to have Zappe on the 53 man roster at the start of the last two seasons. None of them decided he was worth a spot. Why? he's not that good and he's hit his ceiling.

yeah, PatsFan2 made a good point as well.

I blew that take. I'll own it. My bad.
