Jaguar Mac Jones is about to embarrass the genius BB and his all star coaching staff [mod edit: he didn’t]

And if Mac was always this bad then that's on Bill for drafting him. Should have moved up for Parsons in the first round instead.
I mean Mac earned his draft position based on his college play. I think he kind of compares to Tebow a little in that they got over drafted based on winning but it turns out the rosters they played on in college made them look better than they ever would in the pros.

And of course it's on Bill. Quite possibly the worst pick he ever made as a Patriots GM.

Eh, I'd say reaching for Jordan Richards 5 rounds too high still takes the top prize there.

I don't think it's out of the question that they move up for Parsons and then Mac falls down the board to them anyway.

Mac Jones has a better career record than Trevor Lawerence.

I think due to the position and where the franchise was at Mac Jones has to be the worst. He may have been a better football player than Cyrus Jones, Dominique Easley, and all those types but overall the impact the Mac Jones pick had on Bill and the organization makes it the worst. Granted Bill didn't do himself any favors after picking Mac but on top of being a very subpar quarterback Mac is immature and kind of a whiny little twerp.

And which quarterback would you rather have?
The one with the better record. When your backup has a better record than the starter, you don’t think that’s a bad look? Lawerence isn’t exactly trending upward either. Jags spent a bunch of money on WR’s in 2023 and yet he stilled missed the playoffs. Then gets rewarded with a ridiculously bad contract. Lol.

If Lawrence has another mediocre-no playoff season, the media will bring up his contract as possibly the worst in NFL history.

And Cleveland ran him out of town after the hire he wasn't the BB we got from Cleveland. That fan base hated him.
I went to the Pats game in Cleveland in 2000. I was amazed at how much the Browns' fans hated him. There wasn't a single quiet moment as the steady chorus of boos rained down on him when plays weren't being run.

I couldn't care less what their records are. One has every physical tool needed to be an elite quarterback and needs to work on the mental side of the position. The other has extremely limited physical tools, is immature, and needs to work on the mental side of the position. 32 out of 32 GMs would take Lawrence over Jones.

They're Posters here refuting that claim I bowed out already no mas.

Agree. Bill even admitted that. My point remains.....he built a good team and organization until the owner cut his legs out from under him
That's also how I remember it. Modell made Bill the fall guy.

I think picks need to be looked at in a couple of different lenses. 1. Slot in which they were picked compared to 2. Talent 3. Production. 4. Career length

Mac may have a decent career and was decent his rookie year. I don't think the book is closed on him.

It is closed on...

Harry
SloJuan
Dawson
Easley
Dowling
Wheatley
Chad Jackson
Marquis Hill (apologies to his memory but he was a 2nd rd pick and did next to nothing)

Good points.

I'd just say Richards did his part ensuring a Super Bowl loss (of course we know why he was put in that position at all). Not really his fault he is who he is and it was the GM who picked him that high.

I guess at least Jones didn't cost us a SB, since he was never getting there.

N'Keal Harry and Slowuan Williams were the dynasty killing picks. You could also argue Damien Harris. He sat out the first year for no reason. I don't buy an "injury". That's 3 straight picks they didn't get any production out of in Tom's last season. Very strange.

Strong contenders in order were:

Ras IR Dowling. Given his injury history and they had all night to decide on the rest of the entire draft class, but took a seriously injured player.

Dominique Easley. See IR Dowling.

Isiah Wynn. Had they not traded for Trent Brown during the draft, this pick would've really come back to haunt them.

Jordan Richards. No explanation needed.

Cole Strange. Such a bizarre pick.

Rohrwasser is up there. Imagine being a GM that wastes a 5th round pick on a kicker to replace your longtime vet and that kicker doesn't even make the team. Lol

Marte Poopoo yeah I have given up already.

I remember the amount of resistance I got when I called that he wouldn't make the team the moment they drafted him.

Has he even played this preseason?

Think Dalton Keene another useless BB Third Rounder.

My thing with the guys like Tavon Wilson, Duke Dawson, Cyrus Jones, and Jordan Richards is that it wasn't really their fault that they weren't worthy of 2nd round picks. It was Bill's. Most analysts thought those guys were mid to late round picks and based on who they were as players that's where they should have gone. Those guys are completely on Bill.

There are also guys like Dominique Easley or Ras-I Dowling who were boom or bust guys who busted. Elite skillsets but injury risks (or character flaws as well for Easley). With the state of the roster generally being one of the top 5 in the league year over year I don't blame Bill as much for those types of picks. He took a chance on a major injury risk like Gronk and ended up with a hall of famer and took a risk on a relatively unknown workout warrior like Jamie Collins who ended up being a very good player for a while.

With all that being said, I never liked or wanted Mac Jones so maybe I am biased, but he was a catastrophe of a pick all things considered and Bill seemed to compound his mistakes once Mac arrived.

Again we all know the Matty P and Judge decision was terrible but let's not sit here and act like if Josh had stayed for another year or 2 that Mac would be a superstar now.
Mac has had a new OC I think 6 years in a row. He has emotional and physical limitations but BB did him no favors with Matty P.

So happy Tommy Hodson junior is no longer in Foxboro.
