Jaguar Mac Jones is about to embarrass the genius BB and his all star coaching staff [mod edit: he didn’t]

Was it time to trade Mac Jones? I'd say that was definitely a move they had to make. Whether he is a good or bad player, we weren't truly going to find out here.

He had ONE year of complete NFL coaching under McDaniels. He hit the rookie wall. For those that seem to forget, the rookie wall is a crucial point in any player's career. This comes at a point where they have now played more games in a season than they did in college, and the opposition has more tape on him. That's why year two is often a crucial year for the coaching staff and the QB. You have to have a coaching staff that can help him overcome what opponents have keyed in on, and a quarterback able to respond. This is absolutely NOT the time to experiment with a defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator coaching on offense. Certainly NOT in crucial positions.

That is clown school level maneuvering we used to make fun of other teams for during the majority of Belichick's time here. If we were told the Jets had done these things, we would have laughed our asses off at them.

Great coaches don't stay constantly great. There comes a point where they no longer are the same coach. For Belichick, that came in roster and staff construction. He no longer wanted to be challenged. The coaching staff was the Friends and Family plan. The players were all guys who he enjoyed interviewing, regardless of talent.

So, we have multiple things that can be true. Mac Jones was no longer a viable QB talent in New England. He may become a better player in a different situation. Belichick was a great head coach that knew how to evaluate the roster and his coaching staff. After 24 seasons, whatever edge he had was lost. There should be NO shame in admitting that Belichick was no longer the coach he was. Especially because it happened to MANY Hall of Fame coaches, including Don Shula.

Sam Howell had the same game and he still sucks but Pats fans have an embarrassing 10 pages for Mac Jones.

Some days I wish the people that agonize over Brady and Mac would just find another forum. Those days are over. Why do we keep rehashing them? Is our New England psyche so warped that we can't embrace change and give our support to the team. Enjoy the suck, if that's what you think it is. Wallow in the mire of the current crop? If they actually get better, will you be able to deal with it?
Exactly!! I agree.. that’s the whole point. New England negativity prevails lol.. New season, new opportunities!! Let’s go Pats!! I’m sure they won’t do great … but maybe they will? That’s the fun part. I can’t see any real fan being let down by any sports in New England. It’s like we ate the whole chocolate cake after the big steak suppah.. and 2 hours later go to the fridge and disappointed there’s no dessert in there!! Our cup runneth ova!! Enjoy the suck !! Imagine being a fan of any of the other afc east teams?? Brady and bill finally gone .. and nothing but suffrage. They got left ova Mac n cheese for suppah with old dried sofa peanuts for dessert

I think the piling on of Matty P and Judge is a little tiresome. Clearly it was a terrible move but why is that they got more wins out Mac than a real OC in O'Brien did the following year? Hint the answer is because Mac sucked and blaming the coaches is just lazy. That's not to say they didn't suck too but they got saddled with Mac just as badly as Mac got saddled with them.

I just watched highlights of the game. Mac was genuinely excellent: decisive, decent velocity, moved well.

Bill blew this. In the end, he was a lousy head coach and a worse GM. I don't know why this is controversial. Father Time is undefeated.
Cmon now.. do better

Who's hungry?

I don't think Mac would have become great. His ceiling was always just 2017 Alex Smith.

But the Patriots prevented him from ever reaching that ceiling with how bad they screwed him the last 2 years

Garbage argument.

No, it's not. You just disagree.

Au contraire, both are true. It was a garbage argument and @RobertWeathers very correctly disagreed.
And it's not always easy for me to give it up to RW, cause most of the time it's just like his opinion man.

Ernie Adams and Edelman destroy Mac Jones in their last pod together. Ernie even says "I'm no longer with any team" before he does it, realizing he doesn't have to hold back anymore. Jules realizes he probably will see Mac socially again and kind of walks it back.

Here it is at the 2:11:11 mark...

Mac was a jellyfish... along with being a terrible team leader and dirty player. He's not good, he folds under pressure, he blames his teammates for his mistakes. This thread is a joke.

I think Mac will have a somewhat similar career as Chad Pennington.
Which actually will earn him millions of dollars ... not a bad gig.

Mac Looked great in yesterday's preseason game. 16-23 2 TD's no interceptions. It's only one preseason game (true) but
Amazing what a supportive and non backstabbing coaching staff can do to help a young QB. Joe has a real chance to develop with Pederson into a very good qb.
Maybe fences could have been mended if Bill hadn't thrown this kid under the bus so many times.
Another case of Bill's oversize ego ruining the team. Bill was a pric* with this kid and f'ed him up like he f'ed up the team.

I had advocated for keeping MAC as a backup QB for 24 and seeing how things play out in TC.
Might have allowed Pats to draft Joe Alt or Harrison or Malik Nabors. Or at a minimum been better competition for Maye than Brissett.

If somehow Lawrence goes down and Mac lights it up...it will be yet another huge black eye for "The greatest Coach of All time"
By the way..the greatest coach of all time will end up being "Andy Reid"

I am rooting for:
1. BB to never get the all time wins record
2. not be recognized as greatest head coach of all time
3. Not getting another HC job.

What he did ti the Patriots over the past 5 years was blatant malpractice and his incredibly poor judgment destroyed this franchise. Justice will be for him to not get another job,

Once again, the concept of time being fluid and the past having consequences seems to elude some posters.

By the time Jones got to be with O'Brien, he had missed a crucial year in his development. He was playing behind an ever deteriorating offensive unit and a hamstrung OC in O'Brien. I can also quite imagine he was in bad shape because of a how Belichick handled...well...everything in his development. Again, Belichick made every single wrong move you can make to develop a young QB. Again, if another team's coach had done what Belichick did, we'd be laughing about it.

To put it in baseball terms...if Belichick was a pitcher... he still had the knowledge of how to pitch, but his command had deteriorated.

EDIT: Not that he was EVER going to be Brady, but look at what he had. Receivers that suited his strengths, a talented OC and QB coach, a strong running game, and an efficient offensive line. Not to mention a CONSISTENT coaching staff. None of which you could ever claim Jones had.

The Pats maybe coulda had another Lombardi with Brady but humans are flawed and I'm thankful it lasted as long as it did.

Unfortunately I think the Patriots were toast by the time Brady left. Going to Tampa was a smart move, and I’m really glad he got #7 there, because Mahomes is going to give him a run for his money.

Jones had a noodle arm, he was never going to be a good NFL QB.

Yeah Jones needed good coaching to develop. He never had that after his rookie season. Instead he got dysfunctional coaching and I doubt any young QB would become good under those circumstances. He might have it now in Jacksonville without the pressure of being a starter. AS an Andy Dalton type high floor low ceiling guy he can make a career for himself in the league.

Again we all know the Matty P and Judge decision was terrible but let's not sit here and act like if Josh had stayed for another year or 2 that Mac would be a superstar now. The kid sucked and that's on him.

Hypothetically if Mac were to get a chance to play this year and sucks just as bad then does that mean Matty P and Judge deserve another shot at OC somewhere? Of course not bottom line is all 3 of them sucked and I don't think any of them should be pointing fingers anywhere but themselves.

Partly on him, partly on the dysfunctional coaching. That also includes the O'Brien era. BOB was not on the same page with the staff he was given and couldn't bring in his own staff. BB stopped talking to Mac completely. That's not coaching that helps a young QB develop.

Getting held to 7 or less 3 times in a row and trucked 72-3 in 2 games goes way beyond a problem at QB it's systemic.

A team is free to hire them for any reason they want. As long as it's not my team.

And if Mac was always this bad then that's on Bill for drafting him. Should have moved up for Parsons in the first round instead.

I watched the highlights, too. He looked better than he did in New England because he was calm and decisive. Mechanically it still didn’t look great.

I suspect when the pressure is truly on, the bullets are flying for real, and the games matter, we’ll see the indecisive, hesitant, mistake-prone Mac (should he even get an opportunity).

For those who don’t recall, Mac also looked much better in preseason games here, too, presumably because he’s more relaxed; I think it’s very much a mental/emotional thing for him.
Corky was a mirage.

His rookie season was rift with the padding of his stats vs worst of the NFL. Still, the Pats made the post season and we began to see signs of the ugly future that awaited us. One of the first NE pass plays was Corky throwing the deep Mallard into the hands of the Buffalo DBs. The NE WR had no chance. The Pats were down the entire day, but Corky would test fate yet again with another INT as Buffalo cruised to victory.

Corky has a weak noodle arm. That is a fact and the reason why he threw only 3 passes on that windy Monday night in Buffalo 2021 season. Everyone ignores that game. Corky made the 2021 Pro Bowl as an alternate because the top choices for QBs opted not to play.

Year 2, saw the Pats allow Corky swing for the fences. If you go back and watch every brutal INT, you will notice that the play was there to be had, but the ball was off target. Usually thrown too short - Noodle armed. After a few games the Pats pulled the plug on Corkys deep ball experiment. Several INTs were on the books and many more near INTs luckily didn't happen. Letting Corky run amok was akin to smoking a cigarette while working with dynamite.

Somebody had to pay so...Blame Patricia, Blame Judge, Blame the OL, Blame the WRs.

Enter BOB. He will fix the Pats offense because he is a great OC. Just what Corky needs after Patricia and Judge ruined the former fake Pro Bowler. No, actually things got worse to the point of firing BB. You see, BOB called INT plays too and Corky just followed orders. NFL DBs have figured out that if you bait Corky by playing off the WR, Corky will throw there leaving an INT on a silver platter.

The morale to the story is that Noodle armed NFL QBs do not go on to have great careers.
