Building is a myth either you have a QB that allows you to contend or you strike some kind of nick foles type magic either way your chances of winning are better if you have a good roster ready for when either occur.

I have always wondered how the iggles would have fared with a better QB at the time....18-0? Or was he the perfect fit for what they were rolling out then?

The more I think about the idea of getting a 3rd round pick for a 32 year old in a contract year (and a contract dispute) coming off an injury... the more I think this was a steal. And our competitive window will not open in time for him to be useful to us anymore.

When someone offers you a third in this scenario take it and run. Great trade.

What are you talking about? They literally had a QB in Wentz who was in MVP contention with Brady that year and might have won it before he got injured in week 14. They just had their first loss of the season the week before. They only lost their final game when they pulled all the starters. With or without their actual starter they were either going 15-1 or 14-2 depending on if they decided to try in the final week

Is that the plan? Make the team suck so bad that when you don’t want to pay your best player the fans say “great job dumping him, we can’t win any way”

It’s like gambling away all your money losing your job and selling your car so you can eat and saying what a genius I am getting money for a car I don’t need any more because I don’t have to go to work

A 3rd rounder for a 32 year old pass rusher coming off a season ending injury is a great trade. I was expecting a 4th or 5th. We arent going to be competitive this season anyway. We are rebuilding and Judon was not in our future plans.

Please name all the teams that went from awful to winning the Sb without building toward it in the last 20 years.

Fans really are fanatical. Bless your heart.

Happy for you that you can find joy in rooting for a bottom feeder, but after 50 years following this team, my life is too short to find pleasure in such masochism.

See you on the other side of this catastrophe, hopefully.

Thanks Judon for everything you did here as a Patriot! You were good in Baltimore….but great here…..I wish he had handled things a bit better this preseason/camp and not pouting like a child…..but it is what it is. 3rd rounder for 32 y/o in last year of his contract…..very good deal for Pats…..this is a brutal business! Wish him well

This is 4 win team. You really think a 32 year old Judon moves the needle up at all this season? Who says he even plays a full season coming off that injury? There's no argument to pay a disgruntled Judon what he's not worth anymore. And the Patriots would get nothing when he leaves.

Sure, if the car is old needs maintenance and breaking down and nobody except one person would give you anything for it.

You misunderstood my point you are constantly building so ideally you have a good enough team when you find TB12 in 2001 or like KC with Mahomes or like Philly did with lightening in a bottle with Foles.

The 2000 Patriots were awful and the 2002 Patriots weren't good either..

It’s a 4 win team because they refused to spend 43 million of the cap.
Is thatcher plan just suck so it’s not worth getting players?

There were at least 3 teams bidding for Judon.

That’s 25 years ago. The Patriots were below .500 for thee first time in 5 years in 2000.

Most NFL reports were talking 4th rounder and every team knew he was available, if a 2nd was possible, they would have gotten it.
He's 32, coming off injury, with a history of wearing down towards the end of the year.
I hope he plays well and wish him the best,
Having an extra 3rd is helpful in the rebuild for a guy that was going to play 1 year and that being a rebuilding year.

I think we can all agree the Pats are not too concerned with wins and losses in 2024 at this point, it's all about building for 2025 and 2026
Great realistic post…these are the facts….a 3rd is a good trade at this point with this player here…..don’t want a malcontent hurting the younger players and locker room ….but again unfortunately it’s a business…and it sucks …. yesterday you were a hero today you’re not in our plans anymore…..that’s the biz

There's no plan to suck. If they suck, it's because the former GM/HC left a smoking crater of a roster and the bill (no pun intended) is due.

Reportedly only one was offering a 3rd and the others weren't close to that.

You literally said building is a myth.
We committed to the qb why are we sitting out a season?

5-11. They were awful.

5-11. They were awful.
They were competitive from 1996-1999 and had a down year.
In the context of the discussion they were literally what the Steelers have been.
