Report: Patriots working to trade Matt Judon to Atlanta (Update: Deal is done)

No I wanted them to keep him and use the 43 million they refuse to sorbs to put better players around him so they don’t only win 5-6 games.

Instead, they tank.

So you want to be the Steelers. A borderline playoff team every year. Never bad enough to not be in the playoff hunt every year, but not good enough to be more than one and done most years if they get in the playoffs. I don't want that.

Do we care about making this team better. Judon might help this team get six wins. What he would do most for this team is give them something like the 8-9th pick in the 2025 draft rather than a top 5 pick. If that is the case, this trade gives the Patriots more value.

People need to that unless this offensive line miraculously pulls itself together, Maye plays and immediately starts to live up to his potential, and the rookie WRs hit big; this team is going to be one of the 5-10 worst teams in the NFL. With or without Judon. Possible in the top 3 again.

I don't care about keeping player who will make this team go from awful to really, really bad. We are year one in a rebuild. We will experience what most other teams have had to deal with at least at times during our dynasty run. Spending several years as a cellar dweller before they could try to be a contender again.

I am glad the Patriots didn't spend a lot of money to get average players to make this team mediocre to win 7-8 games. As long as this team drafts well and is properly managed (which we will have to see), spending several years as cellar dwellers can pay dividends. I mean that is the 2000s Colts built their team. They weren't the Patriots, but they were better than everyone else.
I'm never one to tank but apparently the collaboration committee is ready to do it before the season even starts.

Because they carried over almost no contracts.
They have the fewest dollars committed to football players in the league. Thats a fact.

They are in the top ten in new money. They spend a lot of money to keep their top players. Stop it.

They aren't even trying to field a competitive roster. Definition of a throwaway season. Will be rooting hard for the #1OA pick all year.
Think we have to be pulling for the 1 pick more for the sake of the possibility of getting a kings ransom for number 1. Do what the Texans and Bears did.

Probably just take a WR anyway

Is 2025 a strong class for WR?
I mean no. This was a strong WR class this year and we actually were in position for the best WR prospect since Calvin Johnson. It sucks we needed a QB this year when a need that we've had since 2018-2019 was for the taking.

What about in this camp? I feel like I see and hear way more about Jennings than Uche.
We’ll see. They will both start because of Judon’s departure. I could also see White opposite Jennings and keep Uche as a pass rush specialist. All 3 of them are going to have a rough year.

I would rather tank than just be perennial borderline playoff teams. That is worse than a couple of awful years to become a contender again. I would hate the Pats to become the post Roethlisberger being healthy Steelers. I think that is purgatory.

After 20 years of the Pats almost always being able to at least pencil in an appearance in the AFCCG every season, I can stomach a could of awful years if the Pats show that they are building something.

I mean if the Pats suck this year after sucking next year and Maye ends up being a dud and they have to start over again in three years, then I will be pissed.

Do you care about making this team better? Wow.

So when we go 2-15 we will say that again next year?

Several years as cellar dwellers can pay dividends.

Are you Bob Kraft?

I’d rather be the Steelers than try hard to be the worst team in the NFL.

It is far easier to go from 8-9 wins to the SB than from 3-4.

A team that doesn’t want good players will never win.

I am ok with it this year but they better spend it on a few impact players next year; especially on offense.
Do you think Bob Kraft who left 50 million on the table after going 4-13 is going to open up the vault after 2-15?

Talent infusion was needed to rise this franchise up and he chose to go backward.
Players list from 2023>> players added in 2024.

Sucks to see him go but a 3rd round pick is good value for an aging player. We need as much draft picks as possible to keep rebuilding this team. We need lots of pieces starting with the O-line.

Don’t put words in my mouth. I want them to be a Super Bowl contender again. I don’t want to build the team to be average at best this year, but not really helping to the long term.

Again, this is the first year of a rebuild where the #1 picks for this team may never see the field this season. The Pats are building for the future. Not for the now.

We are going to be a cellar dweller this year if the Pats were active in free agency or not. If they signed Judon or not. Drafting Maye meant this year was always going to be a mulligan year because he needs to develop more before he can play.

They have 50,000,000 of cap unspent.

Let me try to explain this do you can understand.
If you have the most cap room you have the least money paid to your roster. So to catch up to the other teams you have to spend the most cash.
The cash this year is only salary for players under contract but salary plus signing bonus for new players.

If you add up all the money that each team has contracted to pay to players the patriots are dead last.

I'm fine with this. Truth is we should have committed to a hard rebuild a long time ago and the old coach/gm was unwilling to and tried to scrape by while filling the team with the junk that led us here. Judon realistically is maybe 1 extra win if that.

Time to jump start the rebuild and stop deluding ourselves that we had a shot this year or even the last few years

I would hate to be a Steelers fan. They are building their team every year to be competitive for making the wild card. They will never be in position to draft a true franchise QB unless they get lucky and someone falls to the low 20s where they pick every year. They are in an endless doom loop of being average.

Their only hope out of it is if Wilson starts to play like he used to (highly unlikely) or Fields ever lives up to his hype (also highly unlikely).
