Report: Patriots working to trade Matt Judon to Atlanta (Update: Deal is done)

I get the sense that Judon is a guy who takes care of himself. I believe he's going to still be a high end producer into his mid-thirties. I don't know much about recovery from a torn bicep but I feel like it isn't going to be some lingering injury like a knee or shoulder.

We all know he comes to play, and he's a great locker room guy and fan favorite. The Pats have PLENTY of space, and no top tier FAs are coming here. We also know Atlanta was desperate to land a guy like this after all the criticism on draft day and the belief they have a window to win in the next couple of years.

In a vacuum I agree with most here that a 3rd rounder is a reasonable return (albeit likely a late 3rd). But with all of the above in play, I feel like the Pats should have just signed him or fleeced whoever wanted him.
ATL wins this trade

Signing him would have cost money.

They spend money. Stop with this. They were willing to pay Aiyuk and Ridley. They just didn't want to come here.
Interesting how they are willing to pay guys who don't want to play here but won't pay guys who do like Judon.

How much did they spend on them? How much did they sorbs in free agents? His far under the cap are they? They are currently spending less on football player contracts than every just team in the nfl

They are willing to say they will pay guys who don’t want play here. Which came first the chicken or the egg? The only players Kraft said he would pay happened to be ones who didn’t want come here. Of course no one ever mentioned the guaranteed money.

50 mil under the cap yay

Thank you, Judon. One of the best defensive pass rushers we have had here in 3 decades, IMO.

Sorry that we couldn't work out a little raise....

A 3rd is okay...would have preferred a 2nd or something or a player in return along with the 3rd....

But here we are. Hope Uche has a big year.....we need it.

Judon is 32. Do you really want to give him close to the top of the market money to have 5-6 win seasons while he is here for the next two years only to be let go or retire when the Pats are finally good again.

People are acting like Judon is 28 and not coming off a major injury that ended his season last year.

In real money, they are in like the top 10 this year. Again, why spend money just to spend money. There were very few free agents out there that would make this team better. They made a real effort to get Aiyuk. That is significant. They cannot control a player not wanting to come here. Sorry.

And they have tons of it. Keeping him at least gives the defense some semblance of competence, which might help keep the offense on the field and keep pressure off the QBs to keep pace.

I would have liked to see them sign him for 3 years on a front-loaded deal or a large bonus. They still would have had plenty of space, and when the contract is up some of the young guys will be coming into their own.

Isn't Jennings ahead of Uche

Judon makes this team better

1) I would have preferred we extended Judon.

2) It was obvious this front office was not going to extend a 32 year old Judon without seeing how he performed this season after a major surgery or it would have been done long ago.

3) After how this played out and Judon felt disrespected he was never going to re-sign here.

4) Let’s face it we’re not winning this year. The front office did a good job of getting a 3rd for an expiring, older player coming off of that surgery. Actually I’m shocked they got a 3rd.

5) That’s all my opinion so it’s worth didly doodoo.

No I wanted them to keep him and use the 43 million they refuse to sorbs to put better players around him so they don’t only win 5-6 games.

Instead, they tank.

I would’ve rather seen him go to a real contender. The 3rd rounder is a good deal because the Pats may land a big FA in 2025 cancelling out Judon. I believe ATL runs a 4-3, so that’s a pretty weird fit for him.

But boy, this defense is going to be really bad in 2025. Yikes! They are trying very hard for the number one overall pick next off-season.

Judon makes this team better

Do we care about making this team better. Judon might help this team get six wins. What he would do most for this team is give them something like the 8-9th pick in the 2025 draft rather than a top 5 pick. If that is the case, this trade gives the Patriots more value.

People need to accept that unless this offensive line miraculously pulls itself together, Maye plays and immediately starts to live up to his potential, and the rookie WRs hit big; this team is going to be one of the 5-10 worst teams in the NFL. With or without Judon. Possible in the top 3 again.

I don't care about keeping player who will make this team go from awful to really, really bad. We are year one in a rebuild. We will experience what most other teams have had to deal with at least at times during our dynasty run. Spending several years as a cellar dweller before they could try to be a contender again.

I am glad the Patriots didn't spend a lot of money to get average players to make this team mediocre to win 7-8 games. As long as this team drafts well and is properly managed (which we will have to see), spending several years as cellar dwellers can pay dividends. I mean that is the 2000s Colts built their team. They weren't the Patriots, but they were better than everyone else.

Because they carried over almost no contracts.
They have the fewest dollars committed to football players in the league. Thats a fact.

Good riddance. I will not miss him nor his wanna be GM tweets. He was supposed to be a team leader and acted out during practice and undermined our rookie coach who needs all the support he can get.

Happy with the return as it has a chance of being in the first half of the 3rd round.

That said, the team should have never let it get this far. He should have been traded, extended or given a 1 year raise. There was no way he was playing on $6.5MM this year and team should have known that. It was very naive of them to let it get out of control.
