No one mentions game management when projecting Mayo's record this coming season. For most of his tenure with the Pats, Belichick was one of the best, if not the best, head coach at making decisions during the game and adjustments at halftime. His failures his past few seasons were also evidenced in his decline in game time decision making. Who knows how Mayo will conduct himself in the gametime pressure cooker. In the last few seconds of the game, does he not call a time out when the opposing team has the ball inside the five-yard line and one play to score the go-ahead touchdown.

"blaming" him for taking a promotion? Of course not.

I'm just stating a fact. Josh leaving hurt the patriots and especially Jones.

However, the fault goes to Belichick for not being able to adjust to Josh leaving.

Mg, you said “ I suppose some of the blame goes to Josh…”” Last I knew that was the definition of blaming someone.

Loved Ashley... she gave so many people fits, it was hilarious tbh...but she was invited to leave the site, so we'll never know.

I was sorry to see her go, I thought she did a good job.

Is that...our Ashley who wrote that? Where was she with this for the last Four seasons?

I guess she was more of a Belichick fan than a Patriots fan.
I thought it was obvious.

I'll take the Over. I know statistics can be used to build a case and can be full of kaka but here are some:

The Pats ranked #6 in turnovers last season with 8 Lost Fumbles and 21 Interceptions and a had 4 and 13 Win/Loss Record. The only other team in the Top 6 in Turnovers with a 4 and 13 Win/Loss Record was Washington who had 14 Lost Fumbles and 21 Interceptions.

The remaining 4 teams ranked in the Top 6 in Turnovers all won at least 7 Games and Cleveland who ranked #1 in Turnovers had 11 Wins.

Obviously it depends when and where on the field that these turnovers occurred. I think most of us can remember how many Interceptions Jones threw into the Jaws of Defeat just when the Pats had a chance to win. Even Zappe threw at least one interception to seal a defeat against Washington.

So maybe I have a stretch here but I'm an optimist. . .

Which reminds me, the NYFL decided to air a Pats game vs Miami from 2004. It's a great example of what you're saying. Brady had an 11 point lead and threw 1 or 2 picks leading to 12 Miami points and then topped it off with an INT to end it with a minute left.

Should've been Two 15-1 teams in the AFCCG.

4 or 5 wins won't be the worst record in the league next season. Maybe another top 10 pick.
What pressure does Mayo have? He should be given at least a season to figure some things out. If he blows some end of game decisions who cares as long as he learns. He won't be perfect. Nobody is the first time. This team is not competing for a championship this season.

I care.
I'm sure the players care.
Mediots and fans will care.

Bill might not care....or be too "busy" to notice

I think this teams going to suprise alot of people and be a team no one wants to face come down the stretch. The majority of the problem was offense all around. With this defense and stability at the QB position I like thier chances.
I see this being a 7 win team, tops, but in my best case scenario the offense comes together in early-November, Maye takes over after Thanksgiving and we play spoiler to Miami or Buffalo.

We were an 8 win team with a game to win against Buffalo to go to the playoffs in '22. This roster in my opinion is better on both sides of the ball especially at QB. I have them at least 8-9 wins. In my opinion.. I believe Drake is the starter.. I believe he'll earn it in camp..

Personally I've said that anything above 4 wins is a plus! The comparison fans need to use for optimism is Houston. Just like us they had moving parts all over the roster.. mills was the starter, until the team decided to take a great young QB in CJ stroud that took them to the divisional round. A young ,smart, savy HC with a defensive background.. We are in the same position.. Drake is the key here. If he's the guy in wich I believe he is.. then there is no limit on where this team could go.

You forget that this a fact free zone. The teams that went to playoffs in 2021 and were in the hunt until the last game of 2022 were no-talent teams. Somehow, their talent was sooo bad, that the rest of the team was able to make up for awful QB play and the coaching of Patricia and Judge.
=================
2023 was a debacle for many, many reasons. However, I guess we should be thanking Belichick for leaving us with #3 draft choice and over $100M in cap money for both 2024 and 2025. After all, if the injuries were much less and GM/HC done even a mediocre job, Jones would still be our QB.
============
As Curran said at the time, the new era basically started after the game in Germany.

BTW, as an aside, for some reason Belichick was still gathering players at the end of the year, knowing that he wouldn't be continuing. We should thank him for potential roster and PS players Hill, Austin, Marco Wilson, STer Hasty and Jordan. Maybe none will amount to anything. However, they are competing for roster spots and Practice Squad spots.

When half the teams in the league make the playoffs we end up with poor teams in the playoffs and in the hunt.

If the Pats start out slowly then the Tuckheads will come out in full force and start rooting for losses again.

Agree. I've seen some clamoring for another top 5 pick next year... no!! Winning as much or at least trying too does much more. If we end up say 8-9.. FAs will want to come here.. it will have shown that Mayo's done a good job, and that the offense is contributing.

4-6 wins, I'd take the over. If the defense is as good as last season and no way the offense can be worse than last so yeah, the over.
The defense will not be as good as last season. It will take a big step back. This is a game plan defense with role players and the person that made it work is no longer here.

Sadly the die has been cast.
We did nothing to improve the team in free agency and left 43 million on the table.
We have possibly the worst coaching staff in the league with the least experienced HC, maybe ever, an OC who wasn’t allowed to call plays and hit got fired, again, and a DC who was at best 4th in the line of decision making (and probably 5th).
We didn’t do anything leading up to playing games to try to win them so when we are losing them remember 20-25% of the team is sitting in Krafts bank account because we weren’t willing to spend to make the team better.

One could easily argue Kraft has gone the "cheap" route when assembling this management team and coaching staff.
What the team still owes Bill has to be an influencing factor.
And Kraft no doubt wants to reestablish budgetary constraints and a separation of powers in sharp contrast to how Bill reigned.

Regardless......
